Not Engaged Yet

WTF?!?!? (Warning : Whining!)

I am not supposed to start my period for another week and a half and I ALREADY have cramps!  So, WTF??  I mean, REALLY!

I am on Seasonique (have been for years), so I only get my period 4 times a year.  It's lighter than it used to be, but the cramps and PMS have not gotten any better.  I am not looking forward to my PMS snacking since I've been doing well with eating healthy foods.  It always seems like I can't get enough food when I'm PMSing!

What are your favorite foods to snack on when you're PMSing?  What are some healthy alternatives I can stock up on in anticipation of Aunt Flo?

Oh and P.S.  I've been wondering for awhile now what AW stands for, and I just can't figure it out.  Help, please.

My period is really messed up. I only get it like every 3 months and I'm not on any sort of birth control. The cramps are horrible when I'm PMSing. I don't ever crave anything specific I just am hungry all the time and everything sounds good.

AW stands for attention whore, at least thats what I think it means

I don't pms, but I love snacking.  I love cottage cheese and fruit.  They even have little combo packs at the grocery store.

When I PMS, I get very sensitive and cry all the time; I'm no more of a b!tch than I normally am.  I snack on chocolate and chocolate-like deserts.

My period is totally messed up.  I haven't gotten a period since mid-October.  And I'm on Paragard, so I should be getting HEAVY periods.  The good news is, if I were pregnant, I'd be showing already.  Haha.

If it makes you feel any better, I cramp in the middle of every month. The doc told me I had endometriosis. Which is from your flow being too heavy and it backs up into your ovaries. You may have that since you were saying how heavy your flow used to be.

In high school, I started cramping in the middle of the month and after about six months of that I finally had my appendix taken out. Then the mid-month cramps went away up until five months ago.

BF and I rarely fight, and when we do disagree, I'm usually rather calm and rational and reasonable.  But a few days before my period, I become an irrational moody witch (and I know it... after the fact).  We will bicker about something stupid and he goes, "Are you getting your period?"  Which he's learned is a bad (but probably accurate) thing to say.

Small pieces of dark chocolate, letting them melt on your tongue.  Delicious!  Or chocolate covered fruit - it minimizes the quantity of chocolate, but it tastes SO DAMN GOOD!

I'm usually a pretty calm  and rational person, but a few days before my period... I become very unpleasent to be around. My bf has finally learned to ignore me and my moodiness/tears during that time.

As for snacking, I crave chocolate and bbq chips. It's such an odd combination, but during that week, it's sooo yummy!  My bf knows this and will surprise me with dark chocolate, toblerone or hot chocolate and a bag of bbq chips!

Haha me too! It's like a vicious cycle. I crave something sweet so I eat chocolate, but then I crave something salty to offset the sweet, and I eat chips. Then I want something sweet again and so on.

Mmm... multigrain nachos and salsa.  This is good because I crave salty, crunchy things.  Also love the fruit dipped in chocolate idea.

Cate - I act the same way!  BF has asked before if I was on my period when I was moody, and I was.  It just pisses me off/irritates me.  I don't know why, but it does.  I guess it feels like he's discounting the way I am feeling at the moment due to PMS and I feel totally valid at the time with how I'm feeling.  Smile

Ugh.  The things we go through as girls!

Niknik - I had one dr. a looong time ago say I might have endometriosis, but wasn't sure.  I've also had my appendix removed, but didn't notice any lessening of cramps during that time.  That is weird how that happened with you.  Too bad they're back now!

Oh crap!  I just realized that I'll probably be on my period on Valentine's Day!  That totally sucks.

SKP--I just realized I will be, too! Gah.

I'm on the "moody on period" team. When I went on BC, it got waaaay worse than it had been before; I just started a new kind, though, and so far it's SO much better. BF and I used to have a fight EVERY period week, right before it was time to start pills again. Now things are better. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

I always crave, weirdly enough, tomato-based foods when I'm on my period. Anything tomato-y, especially anything with tomato sauce in or on it. Also starchy foods. My go-to PMS meal is pasta and tomato sauce and it's an instant pick-me-up.

I used to be on Yaz but then I stopped being able to afford it so I quit. Plus I couldn't stand spotting every single day. I started spotting one day and it didn't stop for 6 months. I'm hoping if I get a job with good health coverage, I'm going to look into getting Mirena.

I always crave red meat during that time of the month.  Hamburgers, steaks, you name it.  I don't resist those cravings too much; I feel like my body is telling me that it needs iron, and I'm not going to deny it when it's such an easy excuse for a trip to Smashburger.

Also, the first and second days of my period are the only days of the month when I allow myself regular coke instead of diet.  The caffeine and sugar combo really eases the cramps.  Throw in some chocolate and a heating pad on the stomach, and I'm all better.

Sounds like me! i am going on day 70 of my "cycle" and do not like not knowing when it is going to start. I had been on a BC pill up till last july when I got a blood clot. Dont get me wrong I love not having to deal with it, but I am sad  knowing I am going to have one hell of a time getting pregnant once that comes.

I'm always really worried about that. Right now I'm hoping that the fact that I'm overweight is the bulk of the problem because when I was at a healthy weight my period came like clock work. But if my period is still way off once I lose the weight I'm going to go get it checked out.

Um,  guys. Those of you that are way behind on your natural cycle need to go see a dr. If you don't you get massive estrogen build up and that's bad.

It has actually been somewhat proven that a perfect, predictable monthly cycle is not the indicator of health it has always been thought to be.  I don't think I can post the study since my pubmed subscription is expired, but basically, the hypothesis is that regular periods are a result of exposure to polution and processed food and are not exactly a good thing.  In developing countries (even those that aren't impoverished), regular periods are unheard of.

Note:  I'm not saying that to contradict Hetshup.  If your period has been one way for a long time and then changed, you should see a doctor.  I just thought it was interesting.
