Irrational Fears

Okay, I can't sleep, so I went downstairs to fold clothes and put in a load of laundry. I HATE my basement after dark. I'm so afraid someone is hiding down there. I'm constantly looking behind me. I know there is no one in my basement, but it still scares me! I threw my clothes in the laundry basket and ran up the stairs to fold upstairs in the safety of my living room. I'm 30 years old and I'm afraid of my basement?!?

What irrational fears do you have?

Well the other night I woke up in the middle of the night and I swear to god I saw someone in my apartment! I jumped out of bed grabbed a knife and locked myself in the bathroom. After like 10 minutes of silence I got brave enough to leave the bathroom and turn on the lights in my apartment. Of course there was no one there. I felt really stupid. But I didn't have my glasses on and I'd been having trouble sleeping so that's what I'm blaming it on.

I am just paranoid about home invaders. I have mentioned this before, but I seep with a buck knife on my night stand and I am getting a gun in July.

I don't live in a bad neighborhood by any stretch of the imagination. It is prob the safest place in my city, I am just paranoid.

BF's apartment on the other hand, bad area and I walk around with this knife on my belt.

I have monitor motion detectors outside my window that say if something is there and my dad is installing a door lock on my bed room that deadbolts from the outside if the alarm goes off.

I'm super paranoid when I'm home alone. I live in a safe town (across the street from the police station, even)! One of the few reasons I pay for a landline is to have quick access to 911.

When I lived with my parents and was home alone, I'd let our husky sleep on my bed to be my guard dog, and while she's small for a husky at 50lbs, she still takes up a bit of space on a twin bed.

I always walk in the bathroom (after I have turned on every light in the house) and yank back the shower curtain to make sure no one is there. haha silly enough as it sounds I really am afraid of that happening one day. :(

I have all sorts of fears.  I live in a country area and every single night walking from my car to my door (all of 10 feet) freaks me out.  I think that wolves or coyotes or mountain lions are going to attack me.  And I'm afraid of the dark....  And showering in my house alone.  I am just a big sissy sometimes when it comes to some things.  Yet I am not afraid of spiders....  Go figure.

My worst fear is that something will happen to my husband and I will be alone. It comes and goes...some days I feel really anxious others it dosen't even worry me..i'm so weird and know that living in fear won't change the outcome so it's best to just try and enjoy life for what it is.

I don't know what this is a fear of, but I refuse to answer the door if I'm home alone and don't know someone's coming over.  The last time it happened, the dog sitter was here, so I had to answer the door.  My heart was pounding and it was a census guy.  Also, when BF was stationed in Germany, his roommate came home one day and didn't have his key.  He was ringing the doorbell incessantly.  I was so scared.  I peaked around the wall to see through the window and his roommate saw me.  I know he thought I was insane.

I also live in a safe neighborhood (gated community), but I hate being home at night when BF is out of town.  Every little sound freaks me out and I sleep with one of our many guns on the night stand instead of in the drawer.  I think about how I would escape if someone should break in.  Drives me nuts.

I do this too. Every time I go into the bathroom I have to peak in the curtain. I pull it back real fast and check. I was talking to someone about it one time and they asked what I would do if their was ever someone there. I have no clue what I would ever do if someone was really there, but it hasn't stopped me from looking every time.

My mom and I both have to have our bedroom doors open/closed. I keep mine closed so that if someone were to come in in the middle of the night, I would hear the door open. She leaves hers open so that if there was someone in the house she would hear them before they got upstairs.

I think I am afraid of the dark too. After dinner I always take my dog out to poop and its dark. I hate having to pick it up so I go outside of the apartment complex on the other side of the street.

There is a little wooded area and my dog always thinks there is something out there that she needs to investigate. It scares the crap out of me. There is one street light in the entire area so I stand right under it to make her poop. Then I run back to my apartment. Literally.

I'm always afraid that someone is under my bed when BF doesn't stay over. I do this little run & jump thing to get into bed...as if they're going to grab my legs or something. So stupid. If there was someone under there, i'm sure they'd just wait until I was asleep...and I'd never know because i'm too afraid to look. BF would probably crack up if he knew I did this!! haha

When I check the garbage disposal in the sink, I use my non-dominant hand.  If the electricity goes haywire, or I am in a low-budget horror movie and it turns on while I'm checking it for silverware, then my dominant hand will remain unmangled.

I have an irrational fear of the scar on my finger. My whole finger used to be numb from the cut, but now only the scar is. It freaks me out. I'm always scared it's suddenly going to re-open of something! My BF thinks I'm insane.

In eight grade we had soemthing called "The Flying Squirrel". It's like a zip line, but instead of going across you go straight up in the air about fifty feet. My fingers somehow got jammed inside the pulley. When they tried to let me down, I was stuck. The gyms teachers though I had lost my fingers, so they were probably freaking out more than I was. "Damn, we're in trouble..."

Maybe that's why my fingers freak me out so much...

Before I met my BF, I was terrified whenever I was sleeping in my house alone. Now that we have two dogs, I know that I'll at least have a heads up that someone is in the house. I literally would not be able to sleep in our house without him if the dogs weren't there.

ETA: I'm also terrified of bees. Even though I'm bigger than them, and it probably wouldn't hurt nearly as much to get stung as I think it does in my head.

MOTHS. Uggghhhh. I can deal with just about any other creepy-crawly if I have to, but moths...::shudder.::

They're my one totally irrational, freak-me-out-beyond-all-reason fear. Unless they're the tiny ones, like, smaller than a housefly, when they're around, I enter panic mode. I feel like I'm jumping out of my brain and can't think anymore. I shriek. I make BF slay the dragon. It's something about the way they flutter around like crazy in unpredictable patterns and seem to like to be near my head. And their wings always look dusty/fuzzy/gross.

Ugggghhhhhhhhh I need to go take a shower now. Tongue out

Bren---I hate escalators, too. When I was in elementary school, one of our classmates told us about the time, when she was three years old or so, she'd fallen down and gotten her finger stuck in a moving escalator. She described how it had hung by a small piece of skin and they'd reattached it at the hospital. GAH! I'm probably not doing much to help your fear! Sorry!
