Was there someone here that has PCOS?

I am so mad. I went to the dr about the tumor I have and now he is throwing around PCOS. I was wondering about this and if there are other girls around that are going through this.

My best friend has it. From what I understand, it's really common.

A good friend of mine has it as well. In her case, it's genetic, and it's likely she will have difficulty conceiving, if she can at all (which is sad, because she really wants kids).

Tell her not to give up hope. My best friend was diagnosed with PCOS in her teens and was told that she'd probably never conceive without the help of fertility drugs, and even that would be iffy.

Her son (conceived without the help of fertility drugs, by the way) just turned 7 months old. :)

It's been a long time since I had health insurance so I haven't been to the doctor in years... but the last time I went to see an endocrynologist she told me that I most likely have it... :(

I just started a new job so I should have insurance in the next few months and I'll be going back to find out for sure...

I don't have it, but I've dealt with infertility and associated issues, so I've spent a lot of time on fertility boards and, in turn, have "met" several ladies with it.

Some women will go through life and never know they have it.  It's more common than people know.

Many girls I've talked to have been frustrated because they went to the doc as teens because of weird periods.  The docs put them on BCP to regulate, but never mentioned PCOS as a possibility.  However, PCOS is typically the villain behind menstrual issues.

I've known women who had PCOS and had no trouble conceiving.  I've known women with PCOS who conceived easily with Clomid or other basic fertility treatments.  I've also known women who had to do a bit more to conceive.

Just knowing that you have it would be a great head start!  But, it's certainly not something to worry too much about!

I supposedly have it - wont know for sure for about a month or so when my medical benefits from hubby kick in. It is common and not the end of the world. It is true it can affect fertility but it's not the end all be all. There are many treatments for it - as posted above. The best thing to do is educate yourself and not just let them brush you off. It is a real problem and should be treated with respect as such. Hope  this helps.

I have PCOS. I was diagnosed in Nov. 2008. It was very difficult to deal with at first due to the rapid weight gain and terrible acne. But since I've been on birth control things have been a lot better and I'm really feeling back to normal. I try not to think about in the future and whether we'll have a hard time getting pregnant, but even the doctor told me that there's so much going on now with hormone therapies that you just can't worry about it till the time comes.

I totally understand that it can be something tough to deal with, but hopefully your case is a little milder and birth control will help. Also watching what you eat will make you feel better.

Let me know if you have any more questions! I'd be glad to help!

well what worries me is that I had been on BC since I was 18 and now ten years later I had to go off since I had the clot. I dont have that way to get it under control anymore. I feel horrible because in a matter of  just over two months, I have total break outs all over my t zone and hair line. I also have darkening of facial hair! I wanted answers yesterday but the doc just casually mentioned and and moved on.  I dont feel very pretty with this junk going down....Frown

I'm a little late joining the discussion, but I was diagnosed PCOS in 2001 at the age of 16. I was also told I would have problems concieving if I was able to at all. In February 2009 my fiance and I were shocked to find out we were pregnant (while I was on birth control!) and I'm happy to say that we found out 3 weeks ago that we've got another on the way! (I know- we're busy busy.) lol So apparently it's possible to be a fertile myrtle even with PCOS.

As for the breakouts I would say your hormones should regulate within a month after stopping the birth control, it's just confused right now! :) I would say make an appointment with your gyno and ask him/her to run some tests and see if you can get a diagnosis. The best thing you can do is educate yourself! Good luck!

A friend of mine had a similar experience. She was diagnosed young, but her daughter is almost a year old!

Even still, I hope your doctors are wrong. GL

It's important to speak to your doctor and try to understand what's going on with your body. If your current gyno is too aloof and doesn't make you feel comfortable, see someone else. That's what I did - my gyno was a kettle bells instructor and told me that I just have to do a few workouts with her a week and it'll be better! Hahaha, exercise is important, but that did not make me feel better.

It is super common and it will get better. I totally know how you feel about not feeling pretty, but I promise it will get better. Just speak to your doctor about your options.

I have PCOS and was diagnosed this past March....It is very difficult to handle sometimes. I think the hardest party is the not concieving. We've been trying for almost 2 years with no luck.  Do any of you ladies take Glucophage/ Metformin??

I will have to find a gyno and speak with them. Add it to my long list lol. The doctor i spoke with last was the endocrinologist, he thinks it is POCS. He has also recommended I see a neurologist since he thinks my headaches could not possibly be cause by such a small tumor (half an inch). I kow drs are just educated to better help in this kind of thing, but I am just getting so sick of having to go to all these doctors and want to just get back to normal. I think I am going to find a different endocrinologist because i dont feel like he is taking this serious. If I have POCS it means i could have a hard time having babies, If it is this tumor it means I could have a hard tine having babies. I am gonna have a hard time no matter what so i want to treat them both to increase the likelihood I can have babies!

I'm not on any other medication other than Yaz. No other birth control was doing the trick, but I'm really glad things worked out with Yaz.
Good luck meamolly, I know it's tough, but the doctors will figure out how to get you to feel back to normal.

I was disagnosed with PCOS almost two years ago. I have large cysts on my ovaries and way more testoterone than I should. My doctor was very insensitive and made it sound like it would take miracles for me to ever conceive (which admittedly is something I'm not considering for quite some time). But my Aunt has it too, and she's had four children, all without fertility meds, and the Nurse Practitioner who worked for my jerk doctor said that it's a fairly common condition, and while it's often more difficult to conceive, there's no reason to think it's impossible. So, if your doctor, or anyone, tells you something that upsets you or refuses to answer questions, there are people out there who will give you hope and answer your questions.

[QUOTE]What about just having the number and not saying table 1, table 2? If you had just the number maybe you could make it larger and guest would be able to see it better.
