XP- Violin song for ceremony

Gooood morning! One of my good friends is going to play some/all of the music for our ceremony. He was our concertmaster our orchestra, playing first chair violin.

Problem is, I need ideas of appropriate ceremony songs that can be played on one violin. I would love to have "Canon in D" played, but it's not a song that can be done by one person. Any ideas? Processional, during Communion, other points in the ceremony, recessional?

Thanks!
Aimee

<div>Is this a Catholic wedding?  Often times, there are some restrictions to what music can be played.  I'm not sure if this is true with other denominations.  You might want to check with your venue to see what they allow.</div>

  • We're getting married at a country club in a hybrid ceremony, part Catholic, part Episcopalian. Our Catholic priest is extremely easy going, so I doubt he would have any restrictions.
  • We're having Ave Maria played by a string quartet during Communion. I'm not a very skilled musician but I think that song can be played with one violin.

If you want classical music, as opposed to something more contemporary, I would just youtube Canon in D since it's something you like and then look on the side of the site where they usually list similar videos...I found a lot of great song ideas that way!

Also, I'm sure there are websites that list songs - Google wedding ceremony music.

    Good luck!
  • I have played for numerous weddings on both piano and violin.  Solo violin is rather difficult - it tends to sound empty without the extra accompianiment.  One that worked well for me was Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, but I took a piano arrangement of it and played the melody line from that.   I also ordered a book of pop violin solos and was able to take a few of those and use them as pre/post ceremony music.
