How does a store give someone the wrong ring and not notice?  This is their fault.

If you went to any other type of store and they unintentionally gave you a discount, you wouldn't have to pay the difference.

    That's BS.

Nothing it is the stores fault.  If they tried to make him pay I would be talking to a manger faster then you could say Hey!
    What did Dr. Phil say?

<div>Idk...I would argue that the store provided him with an implied warranty that his ring matched the ring on the receipt and was actually valued at what he paid for it.  Thus, if they screwed it up, as long as their was still consideration (payment) for the contract (sale), which there was, then it's their own tough luck.</div><div>

I assume the groom picked out the less expensive ring and therefore knew what it should look like when he went to pick it up.  In that case, how did he not notice it wasn't the right one?

The store made a mistake and the groom took advantage of it.  I'd say both are in the wrong here.

I don't see how he could not tell that it was not his ring.  Were both rings solitaire and the same cut?  If he knew, and took the ring, that's akin to stealing.  I'm not saying the store shouldn't be partially responsible, I just don't see how he could not know it was his ring.

My first thought was how did the guy not know the ring he picked up wasn't the ring he initially picked out? similar to what cat lady is saying, without knowing all of the details it may have been a very similar ring, but perhaps plantinum instead of white gold, or a slightly better grade quality diamond.  Something like that may be???

<div>Interesting.  My boyfriend is sharp on details so I think he would have noticed, but I can understand the typical male not noticing because he doesn't really know much about diamonds or is so distracted about being nervous regarding the proposal.  </div><div>
</div><div>Based on the follow up info, I'd say the $300 compromise was probably best.</div><div>

Ehh - this is a tough call.

If he noticed it was a bigger ring and proposed anyway in hopes that they wouldn't notice, then he should have consequences for that - bring it back or pay the difference.

If he didn't notice like most typical guys wouldn't - then the store just should have written that off as a loss.  No point in killing some poor bride's dreams because of their mistake.

I feel like the store should have to eat their mistake. They screwed up. Period. Chances are, if the guy had only seen the ring on a couple of other occasions, he wouldn't notice the difference, so I don't think it's his fault.
