Not Engaged Yet

Thanks For The Vibes...

...but I got the email yesterday. I did not get the job.

I was in NYC for a concert yesterday and for some reason FI decided we had to go to the Target in Brooklyn. We walked around, we shopped, I bought a new hoodie. As we sat in the food court sipping coffee, he asked me if I wanted to check my email and there it was. They decided to go with another applicant at this time.

I cried. Not going to lie. I just kind of capsized in the middle of Target and sobbed into my new hoodie. But I really appreciate the good vibes and advice and support you've all been giving me. It really means a lot. It helped me from really losing my mind.

But the concert was epic and fun. I made the lead singer laugh so hard during a song he stopped playing. So...win?

    Yes, win on the concert!

Aw, Bella, I'm sorry about the job. I know you were really excited about it. But people get rejected from jobs all the time, so try not to take it personally.

My advice is to write back and say that you understand and appreciate their consideration. Then, ask if there is anything you can do to improve your competitiveness for future similar positions.

If the person they hired doesn't work out for any reason, they may approach you again. This is actually how I got my last job.

Awwwww, B! I'm so sorry they were dumb enough not to hire you.

Like I said, though: it's because something better is waiting. I'm sure of it.

Now you have to tell us the EPIC WIN story of making the lead singer laugh so hard....and go.

Elle - that is a very good idea about the email. I will do that today. Thank you for that.

    Hahaha okay, okay.

At almost every concert, the lead singer (his name is Brendon Urie) does a solo performance, without the band. Huge surprise, last night he played "Science Fiction Double Feature", which is the opening song from Rocky Horror Picture Show. Well, when I hear anything from RHPS, it's like a reflex - I have to do the callbacks.

When he sang, "Michael Renie was ill the day the earth stood still and he told us where we stand", I (and FI) yelled out: "ON OUR FEET!"

Brendon giggled a little and continued on with the song, and then he got to the line, "Claude Raines was the Invisible Man", I shouted, "HOW THE F*CK DID YOU SEE HIM?!"

And that led to Brendon cracking up, pointing out to me and saying, "That was a good one!"

and my best friend caught video of it:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7EprpyB2qk

It happens within the first 35 seconds of the video, you don't have to watch the whole thing.

That story does sound pretty amazing.

We'll still be behind you 100% for any other jobs that come around though :)

Bella - I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get it! What a bummer. I always feel terrible after news like that...but my mom always tells me "if it didn't work out, it wasn't meant to be". I've learned to trust that advice in all kinds of situations. Keep yourself open to all possibilities and another opportunity will present itself soon!!!

Yay on the concert. Sorry about the job. I second that email suggestion.

Oh, bside, I'm sorry about the job. I like Elle's idea of asking if there is anything you can be doing to make yourself more competitive. But at the very least, you got some more experience with interviewing, and that never hurts! Right?

Sending you lucky job vibes and hoping you find something even better soon!

You have no idea. I was pushed up against the stage; we were first in line to get into the venue (after waiting outside in the freezing cold for 5 hours) and it paid off! I had my elbows actually on the stage most of the night.

Also about the concert - one of their songs is our wedding song, and we shouted up to the lead singer after they played it, "That's our wedding song!" and he said, "Really? That's beautiful, thank you!" It was awesome.

Also, thanks again for the kind words, all <3 You're the best. Every single one of you.

    That sucks about the job!

I'm sure it means something better is out there for you. I know I wanted this one job SOOO badly! They didn't hire me, and I was devastated. 2 weeks later, a part-time job came up and I applied for it because I was desperate. They hired me and a month later it was full time with benefits! I ended up staying there for like 4 years. So, you never know when something better is going to fall in your lap.

I was very sorry to read about the job Bside. In my super vast life experience, whenever that thing I really wanted doesn't work out, whatever took its place was always something that happened for a reason. Remember, you were a very strong contender for this job, you'll be that much stronger for the next one.

Sorry you didn't get it Bside. I recently didn't get a job I really wanted and was told after the fact by two interviewers I was "THIS CLOSE" and the one thing that helped me not get in a funk was this:

Everything happens for a reason and that job wasn't right for you. Don't be discouraged, you're a tough cookie. Dust yourself off and try again. Take that interview as practice and work on your weaknesses for next time.

I definitely agree with Elle and ask what you could do to improve yourself for next time. I asked about my interview and they said my neck gets bright red when I'm nervous (wtf?) Otherwise, it was a case of the person with more experience got the job..hmph. I will be wearing a higher cut shirt on my next interview though...and will still go comando.
