Finding the right wedding photographer

It's harder than it seems. I've researched the photographers in the area, but don't really know what I need. It seems like something we'd really want to invest in because pictures are forever, but did any of you regret spending so much on them afterwards?

I don't really know how many hours I'll need. I don't really want pictures of people dancing, so after the ceremony, the dances, bouquet toss, cake cutting, etc. that'll be pretty much it. But how long does that all take?

I found a place that is offering 6 hours, 2 photographers for 500$ and then you get a cd with full rights to print for another $350. I have never hired a photographer though so I don't know if I need all that or if it's a good deal. Compared to the prices I've seen online, most packages start around 1,000 dollars, but it still seems like a lot for having to pay more money to actually print them. However, we probably won't print many because we'll make an online album most likely with just a few printed for our own album.

My mom knows someone who takes pictures, but she isn't really a professional. She'd be cheaper, but would I regret it later?

I'm so confuzzled, lol. I can use any and all suggestions, please and thank you!
