Not Engaged Yet

NWR: Um, crap.

So, I've been pretty sick for about two weeks now - fever, aches, chill, sore throat, tired beyond belief. I was pretty sure after about day #3 that I had mono, and after going to the docs on Monday, he all but confirmed it (still waiting on blood test, but all my symptoms match exactly to the last two times I had it).

When I was getting checked out by the doc on Monday, he was a bit concerned with the abdominal pain I was having. It literally feels like my organs themselves hurt - very weird and creepy feeling. He ordered an abdominal ultrasound, which I'm going in for this afternoon.

I know I probably shouldn't be, but I'm kinda nervous about my appt. today. I've had more uts than I can count (thanks to the endo), so it's not that...it's just that the doc seemed so worried when I saw him on Monday. Like, beyond a normal doctorly concern. I'm hoping it's just that my spleen is swollen (happens with mono) and is pushing on other things and making them hurt, and that it's not something more serious.

Like I said, I'm sure I'm worried about nothing, but something just keeps pushing my internal "panic" button for some reason.

So, Cliff Notes - I'm being ridiculous. Feel free to tell me so and make fun of me all you want. :)

Sorry that you are feeling so crappy and that your organs hurt! :(

I can only imagine that I woudl be nervous if I was in your situation too so I won't make fun or tell you to knock it off. Just TRY to think positively and rest up til your appointment.

I had some pretty bad stomach aching and organ pain when I had Mono. He's probably just being extra cautious. No reason to worry yourself before you have the tests!!! If he had been super worried, he would have had you do it that day, or Tuesday at the latest. The fact that you waited 2 days shows he's probably not SUPER worried, so you shouldn't be either!

I don't think you're being ridiculous. Testing, no matter how used to it you are, is a scary thing! But you're also probably right that it's just your spleen. My spleen was engorged and grossly swollen for about 10 days when I had mono. It was painful and uncomfortable and generally sucked! But I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Go get your test and when he tells you that's all it was then I'll make fun of you;)

    Keep us posted, hun

You are NOT being ridiculous. *Big hugs

Just try to keep your mind on other things and try to relax. I'm sure the doctor is just being thorough. I would come and take you shopping or out for dessert if I wasn't a 3 day drive away.

    I lurve you Paige :)

The earliest the doc could schedule me in was Thursday, but then again, he didn't send me running to the ER either, so I'm sure you're right, cate. :)

The previous times I had mono, I had some abdominal pain, primarily where my spleen was, but I've never had it this bad. I've been having pain on both sides of my lower back, my lower left abdomen, and where my spleen is. Really uncomfortable (which I can live with) and something I've never experienced (the part that's making me a tiny bit nervous).

I'm at work, but I figure (between the nerves and feeling like death warmed over) trying to actually work is a pointless effort today, so I think I'm going to sit here, catch up on some online reading, and try and relax until appt. time. I may have to scan YouTube and TK and find some funny stuff to post here to get my mind off things :)

I would be nervous too, you're not being ridiculous - perfectly normal reaction. Do try to relax though and like PP mentioned, distract yourself as best as possible. You wouldn't want to end up with an ulcer worrying about it :)

Good luck and hope you feel better real soon!

Lol, thanks Kat. I actually tried to go shopping last night - I needed white capris for my MOH's bridal shower next weekend, and my mom sent me a bunch of $10 off coupons for Gap and Old Navy. I trudged through the outlet mall and got the shopping done, but when I was in the dressing room at Old Navy and took off my shirt, I looked in the mirror and snorted. It looked like I was trying to smuggle a grapefruit underneath my ribs...I probably should have been creeped out by that, but I found it kind of hilarious. lol

I'm so sorry Oceana! I agree with above - had it been life-threatening, he would have sent you for testing that day. (I had a doctor say to me once, "Leave here now. Go straight to the ER. I will call and tell them you're on the way. Someone is here to drive you, right?" That was creepy.)

It's always nerve-wracking but you'll be ok. Hang in there!!!

  • edited December 2011
Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be okay and the doctor just wants to get a look inside you (creepy!).

And if your spleen is swollen, I'm sure they can fix that pretty easily, right? Just wait until you hear from the doc and go from there. Hugs!

I lost it at rock baby. Then, it got me thinking that it is more likely that you are carrying a shark baby.

I am sorry that your health is suffering again. Can't you get a f-ing break?! I hope that it is just some swelling and that you are able to get some relief soon. Until then, I've heard that Erika puts the cure directly into your freezer.

...stuck up underneath my ribs made me giggle entirely too hard.

Lol, no, apparently I cannot catch an F-ing break. It's just been one thing after another as of late. The doc said high levels of stress can do that, are you in any high-stress situations? Why yes, I'm working on my Ph.D., and the doc very quickly changes the subject, lol. Needless to say, I've been pumping myself full of vitamin C and echinacea and green tea for the last week, hopefully that will help me out in the near future.

And Erika's cures are friggin delicious. Her last prescription tasted like Samoas. Mmmmmm. :)

I don't even think I would want my vag after a shark baby came through it.

Feel better Oceana and try not to worry too much. Your not being ridiculous and I'd be worried to. Like other PP's said, if Dr. were super concerned you would have went to ER that day. Even then it might not be anything big, my moms Dr has sent her to the ER thinking that it was the onset of a heartattack and it was just an anxiety attack.

I'm sorry you don't feel well. *hugs* . I had mono about 3 years ago..worst..time..ever. I was out of comission for like 4 weeks because I had no energy and was miserable , it was just horrid. I had so much pain everywhere , and it does feel scary so it's understandable. I freaked out at work when I went to the bathroom to look at my sore throat and i had thes ehuge white splotches all over my throat and tonsils - I ran out crying to my supervisor and my boyfriend at the time had to pick me up and took me to the doctor the next day conforiming it..blah! If they thought it was really serious they would have done something so try not to worry too much , just rest and take it easy , it's all you can do if it's mono anyhow. Feel better!
