Easy-ish sewing projects?

My mom surprised me with a sewing machine for Christmas and it's opened up a whole world of possibilities.  I've never considered myself particularly crafty, but I'm suprising myself.  I've already made a Gryffindor apron.  Check it out:

But anyway, what are some fun, simple projects I could try while I'm still getting the hang of it?

  • Circle skirts are really easy. They're not exactly in season right now, but they would be good practice.

Haha, Liv, I actually looked at that exact page a couple days ago.

I like the pillowcase idea.  We need some new ones.  And I like the skirt idea, too.

Quilts, believe it or not, are fairly easy. I'm going to be starting one soon. It is basically just sewing square together to make a giant square. There is probably a quilt shop or quilting group in your area that can help you when it is time to finish off the sides. Good luck and have fun!

ETA: Oh  and PJ pants are super easy! First thing I ever made was PJ pants.

  • I got my first sewing machine for Christmas as well!  I am so excited, but also intimidated as I have no idea how to work this machine.

I went online and found some sewing classes in my area and am going to register for one.

This looks really cute and simple:

I have a few ideas for things to start with on my pinterest account.

  • Well, if you get adventurous, let me know. I'm a huge quilter!

Also, I made potholders for Christmas presents this year and they were very simple. They were in the shape of cupcakes. :D
  • Also, since many of you ladies seem to be experiencing the first machine awesomeness, search out your local quilt shop. The small ones are amazing and the women there are always more than happy to help, even if you're just doing small sewing projects rather than full quilts. You build up quite a little community.
  • Great thoughts everyone.  SKP, I'm going to go stalk your pinterest now.
