FI's Surgery is Tomorrow

The title explains it.  He's having the hydrocele removed tomorrow.  I'm nervous and scared.  I know he's in good hands and it's a short procedure, but I'm a worrier.  He won't be able to walk for the first week, and he'll be out of work for 3 weeks, so I'll be waiting on him hand and foot.  I just want him to feel better!

Today I'm going to go out and buy him some really loose fitting pajama pants to wear after the surgery.  I'm also going to get him a get well card and some magazines/books/puzzles for entertainment while he's laying around.  Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can get him to cheer him up/for entertainment?

Also, please say a little prayer for him.  I'd appreciate it.

Since I work in a hospital on a surgical unit, and see it all, I feel compelled to post. :)

First... good luck to you two! It is simple, but not without risks. I'll send him good juju.

Ideas: Surprise him with a blanket from home. When he is allowed to eat, get permission from the doctor and nurses to bring in home cooked food/smoothies/coffee. Bring slippers or shoes so he can walk outside with you, when he can walk. Write down every question as it comes up, so you are prepared when you see the doc once a day. See if the hospital has wireless internet access, most do. Know that in a hospital doctors come when they want, they do not operate on a schedule, however, someone is always on call for emergencies.

umm I could go on and on and on and on. Hope this helps. :)

Get him a video game or a computer game.  Those definitely help pass the time!

Good luck to fi! As the girl who is on her 4th week of medical, may I suggest going to blockbuster and renting a season or two of a show he's never seen but would be into or something he started mid series? I've started watching Sex and the City from the very beginning and it's really helped pass the time.

This is a great idea. My mom came out when I had my gallbladder removed...and brought the first season of Glee. We laid in bed all weekend watching episode after episode. It helped pass the time and it really was a lot of fun.

If he hasn't seen it, Dexter!!!  We literally wasted 3 weekends in a row watching the first 4 seasons.

Seasons 1 & 2 are available on instant on Netflix.  Seasons 3 & 4 are available to have mailed to you - I'd suggest getting 2 or 3 DVDs at a time, because the 2-day wait between them sucked!

ETA:  Netflix is awesome anyway - and if you have it, he can watch hundreds of movies and TV shows right on his computer.  If you don't have it yet, definitely get the free trial week - that should get you through at least most of his recovery!

    Agreed! Netflix is the best!

When I had surgery last year, I watched a ton of movies. I couldn't concentrate on anything else.

I hope it all goes well! I'm glad he's finally getting that removed--it sounds like the right thing to do.

I also vote to bring some games and TV shows or movies.
