FI left town today and I won't see him for 10 days.  And I found out today that at least three of my 5 bridesmaids won't be able to go to my bridal shower.  And I didn't even want a bridal shower in the first place.  And I hate registering for gifts.  And I have cramps because Aunt Flo randomly decided to show up, a week early, in the middle of my 20-mile bike ride today.  So I'm stifling my lonely, indulgent self-pity with chocolate cupcakes and I want some companionship.

My FI is also OOT.  He's geese hunting in Iowa with some work contacts.  Lucky bastard gets to go hunting (something he LOVES) at his company's expense.  Nah, I'm happy for him.

I am kind of around. Technology hates me today. Facebook has been weird. My internet has been slow. And a show I recorded on the DVR is being screwy. I just tried watching it and I got 15 minutes into it and then it skips to the 53 minute mark. It shows that the whole thing is recorded but just won't go to that in between area. Grrr.

FI and I are watching the Parent Trap.  We had a very good, calm conversation about the mood problem.  I'm feeling somewhat better now, thank God.

Yaga - it's not Army stuff.  He's in DC for the rest of this week for a future doctor thing (I don't really know all the details, but he's going to meet congressmen and talk about medical issues in this country) then he's going skiing with some friends for Spring Break next week.  He's flying straight from DC to Colorado, so yeah, 10 days with no FI.

I need some advice.

My MOH asked me if I wanted to have a bridal shower.  I said no because people are scattered everywhere throughout the country and I didn't want people to travel for a shower.  So, then she suggested we have a bridal lunch the day before.  I said I thought that'd be a great idea.

Then FI's aunt emailed me that she wanted to look for a place to have a girls' lunch the day before the wedding when she visits us at the end of the month.  I told her that my MOH was planning something, but that I'm sure she'd like some help.  So I put the two of them in touch.

My problem is that I just realized that a bridal luncheon is supposed to be hosted by the bride.  My MOH doesn't like to talk about money, so I don't know how to approach her to say "I messed up, how do you want me to be involved" etc. 

Now that I'm writing this, I don't know if my MOH meant a lunch with just me and the BMs, but since she was saying let's do this instead of a bridal shower, I assumed we would invite the other female family members.  She hasn't said anything about it and sounded excited for FI's aunt to help.

Any suggestions?  What would you have thought?  What would you do/say to the MOH to make sure she knows you don't expect her to pay for this?

We had to do a year of long distance from July 2010 to June 2011 while he did his masters program, and that was after several years of living together.  I think the longest we've ever gone without seeing each other was almost 4 weeks, and that was when he was just getting settled into that program.  After that, we managed to see each other about every other weekend.

This is, however, the longest we've been apart since we moved to Mississippi, and I don't have many friends here, so that makes it harder.

The med school thing hasn't been hard on me... not yet, at least.  I see a lot more of him than I thought I would, so that's good.

I would have assumed the same thing you did about the luncheon being kind of a substitute shower.  Also, I didn't know the bride hosted the luncheon.  Every one I've been to (all both of them, lol) has been hosted by a family member of the bride.

Gosh...  I don't know what you should do or say.  Maybe just send her a message saying basically what you just told us?

I don't really mind with FI goes OOT, though 10 days would be a bit much.

We were also long distance for 5 years.  During 4 years of our relationship, we would only see each other about once every 4 months (except when he was "in theatre" and we went 8 months without seeing each other).

I definitely miss him when he's gone, but I also enjoy the time to myself.

I won't lie; I enjoy the time to myself when FI is out of town.  He has "drill weekends" once a month and is gone then, but that's about all I need.

It would be easier if I were in Houston with my friends.  My biggest problem is just that I don't like being bored.

Agreed.  Sometimes we can make it a bigger deal than it actually is.  Which is why I'm glad I have you ladies!

I spoke with FI about it and he basically told me the same thing.  He also said, "You know they're not going to let you pay for anything.  Especially if [my aunt] is involved."  It's probably true.
