So Professional (vent) (PiP)

Argh. Not only did I have killer cramps today, I had 2 job interviews, one at 9am and one at 1:30pm. The 9am one went swimmingly. Buuuuuuuuuuuut...

I kind of dozed off. I woke up miraculously at 1:20, jumped into my interview clothes and ran a brush through my hair before flying down the road to the interview (luckily I only live 5 minutes from the office).

I was only 2 minutes late but the office door was locked. I knocked ... and knocked ... and knocked ... and knocked. I tried calling the number the HR lady gave me but there was only voicemail.

Then another lady showed up and asked if I was waiting for the boss. I said yeah, I had an appointment at 1:30 but no one was answering the door. She said she was there for a 1:30 appointment too. We waited for ten minutes before the dudes in the office across the way came out and said, "Are you waiting for [Guy We Were There To See]? You're like the third group of people I've seen out here waiting for him. He never came in today."

FML! We got 3 inches of snow last night but apparently this guy (an ear doctor, by the way) decided it wasn't worth his time to come in and, you know, NOT CALL ANYONE!

*kicks wall* Professional, amirite?

Well, here are my hawt new shoes that I didn't get to show off. They're kinda wet from the snow.

I'm wearing them around the house in sweatpants now =/

Tell me some interview horror stories to make me feel better.

How rude! I'm glad to hear the first interview went well. And those shoes are super cute.

I don't have any real horror stories, but for two of the three full-time jobs I've had, I went through about nine interviews each. For the first one, I already worked at the company as a contractor. I think I had interviews with four people one day and five people on another.

For my current job, I went through an initial phone interview, came in to meet with four people, did two more phone interviews, came back for another in-person interview, and I thought I was done. Then it turned out I still had to do one last phone interview!

Argh!  I hate when people do that sh!t.  I once went for an interview that was 45 miles away....during rush hour.  I then waited in the lobby for 15 minutes for the guy, went through the whole interview, only for him to tell me they had already hired someone!  I mean come on, wtf?

I think some employers in this economy are so flooded by the amount of responses they get, they think that all common courtesy goes out the window.  He probably though "I'm sure she has nothing else better to do today...lets string her along..."

Oh no! Sorry to hear it!

One time, right after I graduated from college, I went to an interview for a part-time office assistant/cold-calling position. The dude was a total a$$hat. He had printed my cover letter and resume from the email I sent in, and there was ONE typo in the whole thing (embarrassing, but not exactly a crime). It happened because I'd typed it on a slowwww computer that froze up while I was typing a few times.

He sat me down, and the FIRST thing he said, harshly, was, "So, 'attention to detail,' huh? Lemme show you something." ::stabs at typo on my cover letter with finger:: "What about THAT? HUH?"

Um...wow. You obviously thought I was worth interviewing anyway, so this is plainly just an attempt to make me feel small. THANKS, dude.

That sucks bside. But look at it this way - if this is how the guy acts, you don't want to work for him anyway. Count it as a near miss. I'll think good thoughts for your morning interview though!

    Ugh!  That's incredibly rude!

I know job hunting is tough, but it's good to know that this is one place you DON'T want to work.  I mean, if he's that inconsiderate to people who he's trying to hire, he's not likely to be respectful of your time when you're an employee.

I've had my share of working under a bad manager.  It's not worth it at any cost.

Wicked shoes. Shitty deal about the interview.  Probably not somewhere you would want to work in the end anyways...

I hate interviewers that are high and mighty.  Like, yes I might want and/or need this job but that doesn't give you the right to be an unholy arsehole.

Once while I was at a career fair in college a representative asked me if I could come back at a certain time later that day for an interview. I went back at that time, but they had completely disappeared!

I had one interview years ago that I was supposed to meet the person in the snack area at Walmart (before the days of the supercenters with McDonalds in them) - I waited for about 45 minutes and the person never showed up (before the days of cell phones, too) - called the # when I got home and it had been disconnected.

My "favorite" interviews right now are the ones that totally waste my time.  The interview literally lasts for less than 5 minutes.  They rave over how much they love my resume and all, but never ask me any work history questions, or anything.  The interview I had on Wednesday was like this - the guy seriously asked me 3 questions: 1-where did I live and how long did it take me to get to the interview (it took me about 35 min); 2- how long have I lived in town (I've lived here my entire life) and 3-would I be ok if he did a 1099 to pay me instead of him taking taxes out (nice, he wants to pay minimum wage and can't be bothered with paying an employee, not an independent contractor, properly - I told him yes, though, wasn't going to sound petty in an interview) - that's one job I'm glad I didn't get...but seriously, how do they expect to hire someone worthwhile if the interview is so short and they take no notes (sometimes I think, esp if it's a guy doing the interview by himself and since all of my 5 min interviews have been with men, that they're looking for a certain "look" for their assistant/receptionist and I don't fit that look - just fine with me, don't want to work for that kind of boss).

And then for the really weird interview I went on a few months ago...I had a bad feeling about this one even before I got there.  I couldn't find any info on this company on the internet and it was in an industrial part of town, but since I need a job, I went anyway.  When I got there, the office was a junk pile.  I'm all for second-hand furniture, but it was sad - everything was run down, the waiting room chair was an old taped up bean bag chair, the conference room nothing matched, chairs had duct tape on them, etc.  I like to look around the office when I go for an interview, will kind of tell me about the people and the environment, and there were signs on the wall that were just typed up in a Word doc - all misspelled and made no sense.  Turns out this was an "import/export" business of "cell phone equipment".  The lady who interviewed me was Russian and she said most of the people that worked for her were from a different country - somewhere over seas.  I purposely threw that interview, that place was so freaky.  My dad and FI both joked I had interviewed with the Russian mob.

That is so crappy! For all the interviews I've had (way more than the average 21 year old), I've never had anything awful happen. I'm sure the cramps only made this situation worse...

However, the shoes = super cute! I love that you're wearing them with track pants, it's definitely something I'd do.

Thanks Owl, I hope so. It's good pay and great benefits. My only concern is that a friend of mine works for the company and helped me get the interview, and the group interview this morning seemed to focus largely on this fact. I'll either get the job and then others will resent me because of my friend, or they won't hire me because all they'll see is nepotism. We'll see...!

I Often break in my shoes around the house. One time a while back when i lived with my parents, I was cooking dinner still in my school dress and some new formal shoes. My dad walked in and made a comment about how his mom use to cook in heels and how he missed women cooking in heels. Yes i rolled my eyes at him.
