Not Engaged Yet

Things I am excited about

1. I graduate next week! Hallelujah! (or I'd better. My school has a history of whoops-look-what-the-advisors-and-evaluations-office-missed-itis).

2. BF and I signed a lease on our OWN apartment! YAY! And it's month-to-month! The best kind of lease! It's a teeny tiny little place, but utilities are included (except trash for some very odd reason) so I can be WARM this winter!

3. I NEVER HAVE TO SEE NASTY ROOMMATE GUY EVER AGAIN! THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER! WHY ISN'T IT JUNE 15TH YET!? (yes. Capslock was necessary for that).

Things I am terrified of and freaking out about:

1. OMG I'm graduating next week! Eeeeek! I've been in school since I was 3! I don't know anything else! How does the world work without homework!? I have to find a job! Student loans have to be repaid! Ack!

Tell me things about the real world that aren't scary! D:

Funny you should mention that, I was a Childhood Ed major with a concentration in History. After my freshman year they changed the course requirements for the History concentration. I followed them the best I could but it was really confusing (a certain number of courses at the different levels from different topics). My advisor was an Ed professor and tried but also didn't really understand it. I graduated in December of 2006 and wanted to start grad school in Jan 2007 so I needed the college to post my degree ASAP. I hounded the person in charge of this and she pushed it throw quickly for me. After the degree was posted and I started grad classes I found out that I actually took the right number of courses but the wrong combination and they should have made me take another class. I'm so glad I was a PITA and got my degree posted without them really looking at the courses! (I hated my history classes.)

Congrats though! I'm sure you are all set. Also, congrats on the apartment! FI and I got our first apartment on a month-to-month lease and it was great. We were able to look for houses and buy and not have to worry about the lease!

Advice: Look into how long you have until your loans go into repayment. Mine were 6 months except for one which was a full year. It helps for budgeting sake and to give you time to breath and find a job.

I think these exact words came out of my mouth before I graduated.  The world without homework means you can actually read things for fun!  Also, I started being able to watch tv without feeling guilty about what I should be studying for.

Wow. It certainly IS a good thing you were a PITA. I would have been pissed!

I THINK I should be OK. I looked it over like a bajillion times, and made my advisor look it over several times, and the evaluations office (theorectically) looked it over, and none of us found snags, but I shant count my chickens yet. My friend thought she was covered too and ended up having to come back for another quarter because there was some obscure rule in place that was forgotten by everybody until she got the "Whoopsy daisy!" letter in the mail.

I'm so excited about the new place! Whether I'm more excited about living ALONE with BF or getting away from Nasty Guy I couldn't tell you. But yay! And month-to-month is just perfect, since if I can't find a job in say three months, it gives us the chance to move back to my hometown where I can just pick up the job I used to have there (albeit with higher pay, since I have a degree in that area now).

I believe I have 6 months until I have to start repaying my loans (though I do have to double check that. I will also probably be consolidating the mo-fos since the Department of Education bought half of them and kinda messed with my plans. But hey. They also lowered the interest, so I don't mind too much :P). That's why I have the loose deadline for myself of three months to find a job out here (or somewhere) before I go back to my job at home. I would like to branch out a bit, work and live different places, but the loans need repayment and that way I'd have a small cushioning.

What is it you do, KD? Having homework after school seems blasphemous! (...says the person intending to eventually be a veterinarian).

" Also, I started being able to watch tv without feeling guilty about what I should be studying for"

Now THAT is a nice thing. heck, maybe we'll be able to HAVE TV again! We cut it out a bit ago since we decided we were all a little stretched too thin monetarily for it. But it would be nice to have again! More reason for a job! :P

I'm a teacher. I try and stay at school and do most of it there but there are a lot of times when I bring home work. This weekend, for instance, I have to do my lesson plans and I have to fill out my feeder cards (information on each student for their teacher next year) that I received yesterday and have to be finished by Tuesday morning. It's a good thing I love my job though!

Ah yes. Teaching. I remember in high school I would always chuckle at my teachers when I'd turn in an assignment and think, "Ha! By giving me homework you just made more work for yourself! How do you like THEM apples!?"

Obviously they probably realized that, but I had to feel like I had SOME form of revenge :P

Yeah after homework you have "work-work". Depending on your career choice it's an awful lot like homework! :) It never ends. What DOES end is spring vacation. Winter vacation. Summer vacation. And you're down to 2 or 3 lousy weeks.

(Note: If you are ever negotiating for a job and can't get more salary out of them, ask for extra vacation time. Most companies see this as a "soft" expense and might be willing to give you a few extra days or a week if they want you to work for them! I'm not so sure that will work in our current economy but it's worth asking for at a current job - can't give me a raise/bonus this year? How about a few extra days off?)

That may not be scary, but it DOES suck, Paint :P You're supposed to be uplifting me, not making me decide to get a second bachelor's degree ;P

Thanks for the tip about vacation time! I would never have thought of that. Ah, what you can learn from those more experienced than you *coughcough*

And I just thought of something else I'll have to start doing: buy food and cook for myself. My housemate LOVES to cook so he's really been the one feeding me for the last three years :P When he's not home I really only eat ramen because I haaaaaaate cooking.

I just avoided the real world at all costs. I graduated with my undergrad took a semester off and went to grad school instead. I started school the day my first loan payment was due, thankfully they are back in deferment for as long as it takes me to get my PhD. I was actually pretty lost without school work to do, I actually enjoy doing school work (hence why I am sitting here with my calculus book doing all the work for a class that starts in September...) I actually don't know what I will do with myself later on.

I also just moved across the country and live on my own for the first time, trust me, you learn to cook really quickly...or you starve.

Chipy- Will you do my calc homework for me?  It's due at 5 am, and I have a migrane.

    Thanks!
