Cheesy, organized dances

My month board is having a discussion about the cheesy songs like the Electric Slide, chicken dance, YMCA, etc...

I want to know your opinions on these types of songs at weddings?

The majority of people are against all of them over on the other board. Personally, I think a few of them are fun and actually get people out on the dance floor dancing. I mean if they didn't do the hokey pokey at my brother's wedding, my grandma would NEVER have made it to the dance floor :) And, I LOVE watching the little kids do all those dances.

Opinions?

I like the YMCA for the simple fact that I worked for them for 5 years, as did several friends, and it's a big dance party when we all go.  I'm not really cool with the hokey pokey or anything...maybe the cha cha slide....iunno

    I prefer un-choregraphed stuff

Was it Mutley that said those were the dances that got people on the floor?

I know they can get the dance floor going, and that's always fun.  I do 'em.

There will be absolutely NO hokey pokey or chicken dance at my wedding. I'm not a huge fan of the Cupid Shuffle, but I'm okay with that or any of the others. Cha cha slide is always fun. :)

I'm cool with anything that will get people up and dancing. If you ask me, it's all about your guests having a good time and if that means the chicken dance, the YMCA and the macarena, then bring it on!

I get paid to perform and teach dance, and I will welcome all choreographed dances at my wedding. The whole point is to get my nearest and dearest together to have some fun, and those dances are always good for a laugh. (although I totally respect and understand Marley's opinion)

My FI (that felt really weird to type) is corny like that. So I am sure he will insist on them. I think they are fun and are great for getting people out on the dance floor.

[QUOTE]The only choreographed-type thing we did was the cupid shuffle...it was so fun to watch all the old people get their groove on.

    I love the Cupid Shuffle!

But I know for sure that when I get married I don't want to have the Chicken Dance or the macarena. Those two are a no-no for me.

At my sisters wedding, she banned everything but the Cupid Shuffle, and they played it twice, the first time was right after all the traditional dances, and it was just the bridesmaids that danced to it. We got some seriously cute pictures out of it. The second time was quite a bit later in the reception, and I think the DJ just wanted to watch a bunch of old drunk people try to dance it. It was pretty funny.
