Not Engaged Yet

Psychic prediction, please--after Easter, will jewelers resume answering my e-mails?

I'm shopping for my engagement ring and wedding ring. The brand that I'm interested in has to be special ordered from Germany.

Only one jeweler in Colorado carries it. They have no rings for me to see before I order.

So I'm e-mailing the few USA jewelers who carry it to research before my fiancé and I take a shopping trip.

I got some information from the manufacturer. For prices, I have to ask their retailers.

I've gotten a lot, perhaps most, of what I need. But the last two weeks, I've gotten almost no answers to my e-mails, even from jewelers who have answered before.

Is Easter, perhaps, a big jewelry holiday?

What is it about German wedding bands? Another NEY-knottie just said something about this in her reply to my post ("Glad to be here").

Im from Germany, so if I can be any help to you (communicating with jeweler, translations etc.) just let me know.

No. It's about adorable bunnies and their candy filled eggs they poop out.
    I'm not good at feelings.

I would try calling them. I ran into this with wedding planning. Some small business would have email addresses but not respond to them right away. Phone calls worked better with certain vendors.

I have to say that I don't really understand this fascination with a particular brand or whatever. Why travel to shop for a ring when you can give a pic of what you want to any reputable local jeweler and get something very similar custom made, probably for less?

That would be me.  BF and I love that German wedding bands match, we feel that (prepare for cheese) we were made for each other and the German bands reflect that.  I also love the simplicity of it and not having to worry about banging a setting around, or having the center stone slide around my finger.  I can't stand when my right hand ring goes upside down and I have to twist it back to the rightful position.

OP, I agree with desert, try calling them. I have never heard of people giving each other jewelry on Easter, so the stores probably just answer to phone calls better than emails.  Phone calls don't get lost in "junk mail" boxes.

Magistra, I very much appreciate your offer. The manufacturer has an English web site and "correspondents". I'm now dealing with their USA retailers. Thank you for your response.

desertsun, thank you for your suggestion. I have made some phone calls, looks like I need to make more. The engagement ring that I'm interested in is tension set. The best ones are forged/smithed, not cast. I only know of one USA jeweler who uses this technology. His rings are too expensive for our budget. I was thrilled when I found out that we can afford rings from this German company. I believe they actually pioneered this technique. I wish I knew how to post a photo on here. If you saw one, perhaps you'd understand my "fascination". I don't actually care about the brand, just the style. But this is the only manufacturer I know of that makes what I want in our price range.

I would love to see a pic!

Just click on the little tree icon down there in the format options under the text box to upload a photo.

I don't have to "get" your fascination. I'm just a random internet stranger. I freely voice my opinions, but I don't expect everyone to agree, or to have what works for me be what works for everyone. :)

It's easy to kind of put off replying to an email, but when you have a real person on the other end of the phone who wants help NOW, it's harder to say no or put it off. I hope some calls will help you make progress toward your dream ring!

desertsun, it sounds like you're talking about a computer screen. I'm "knotting" on my iPhone. You sound like a nice random Internet stranger. :-)

Ah, okay. Well, next time you're on a computer, then. Upload some pics for us.

    I think I'm pretty nice. But I'm biased. :)

...or she could just tell us the brand name.  I know how to google.
