Kids TV

So, all judgement aside (I'm graduating...I feel the need to embrace my inner 5 year old), I keep my TV on Disney Channel.  It started because I have issues sleeping alone, so I need some sort of TV or music, and it was more obnoxious to keep my computer on.  And so it used to be Nick at Nite until my school killed it.  So, now I watch Disney Channel.

Anycase, I've noticed that recently there's been a LOT more adult humor in their kids' shows.  I don't mean stuff that's clearly obscene, but stuff that made me look twice.  For example, on Good Luck, Charlie, mom is having trouble with her painting until she takes credit for one of her two year old's paintings.  She wakes the two year old up from her nap so she can get another painting, dad comes in and tells mom it's going to be okay, and the two year old says "I tired".  Dad says "Let's put baby back to bed, and you and I can go upstairs and cuddle, because you're mine too" and mom says "I tired" and walks out of the room.

Only example I can come up with for now, and obviously the kids aren't going to pick up on what it means, but WOW.

Thoughts?

So call me a dork but I've watch Tangled like five times since we bought it and at the end when they're celebrating the returned princess he says "There was a week long celebration and to be honest I don't remember half of it."

    I was like whoa what??

I remember watching Grease on TV with my dad when I was about 10 years old, and happily, innocently enjoying it.

Then I watched it again a few years later, and was like "ummm... did he really just say that?" for half of the show.

I know that's only sorta related to your topic, but for some reason that's the story that entered my head.

OP I do the same thing. I feel like it's the only channel that I won't get bad dreams from listening to it.. But yes a lot of shows  have innapropriate comments but kids probably don't catch them like we do.

Elle: I did the same thing with Grease. Also dirty dancing.. I didn't understand the girl had an abortion until I was older.

It is not a recent occurrence. Go back and watch some old Disney movies, like Hercules, and you will see a lot of adult themes. The film makers want parents to enjoy the movies too so they will take their kids to see them.

I knew the movies had stuff, I just didn't realize the TV shows had them.  And it caught me seriously off guard tonight.

Aah, that's totally the reason I watch Disney.  I get bad dreams pretty easily, and it allows me to even wake up in the middle of the night to circles and squares.  :)  No bad dreams there!

I thought I was seriously the only one in the world over the age of 13 who enjoyed Hannah Montana.  Although Wizards of Waverly Place is my fave.

    Edit: for clarification.

Hahah. I also enjoy her as a singer. I'm actually in the middle of learning how to sign (in ASL) ""When I look at you." It's from her movie "The Last Song".

Um, yes! A few weeks ago Grease was on TV and it was like a Glee version so all the lyrics would show up on the screen. I couldn't believe some of the stuff that was said and how I had never noticed it before!

I used to watch R movies at like 10, so dirty words were never a big deal.

When I babysat like years ago I used to like Zach and Cody, but then I saw it on the plane a few weeks ago and they were all older, it wasn't as good. I also like Franklin :)

I love watching the Regular Show on Cartoon Network, recently an episode was all about the blue jay walking in on a naked old guy.  I did a spit take when the racoon asked him if he saw his "wrinkly junkmail."  I don't think kids understand the reference but they probably laugh at the funny faces the characters make when they say adult things.

I set the sleep timer on my television and watch Adult Swim at night, but sometimes I'm cracking up too bad to fall asleep!
