I think the main difference outside of appearance of them, would be the strength of the metal. Gold can tarnish fairly easily compared to platinum.

Also, platinum is naturally white in colour, so it won't need to be plated like white gold does. The colour of rose gold is what really makes it stand out.

I don't know much about rose gold, besides that it's a mix of gold and copper.

    Gold's cheaper than platinum.

There's a girl on here with a rose gold ring... I think it might be hetshup but I could be wrong.

Sometimes jewelry stores don't carry them with diamonds, only bands. So you have to dig a little deeper to find a rose gold ring (sometimes they go by antique pink). Another is, some men won't think to get one in rose gold because they think white gold and platinum when it comes to engagement rings and such. So you gotta find a way to put it in his head! Lol. Also, if you want the rings to match, consider the amount of "pink" on his ring.
    Btw, I LOVE rose gold.

i tried to PM you but i don't think it would let me...

what are the pros and cons to the rings?  i don't want to offend, but my mom said something about copper being seen as being "less" as opposed to a white gold ring.  and, i don't wear ANY jewelry except for a silver watch (brighton style) so she mentioned the rose gold might "clash" with that.  now, my mom is a little old-school and way more traditional than i am...

i love the look of rose gold.  and i've heard that you avoid the skin allergies one might get from having nickel in the gold.  i have eczema and break out very easily so that was definitely a plus.

are the costs similar?  does it "last" as long as white/yellow gold?  clash?  do you snarky comments about the copper or that your FI/H was cheap?

just wondering.  please don't take offense to anything...  my BF will be taking my heirloom ring to get reset and he keeps bugging me to decide if i want rose gold or white gold or rhodium-plated.

thanks!  sorry to pry.  your ring is beautiful.  i like the wedding bands.  :)

i would post a picture of my heirloom ring, but, is that bad luck?  ;)

My rings are also rose gold and I love them! Rose gold is hard to find, but really caught my eye (my fiance and I went looking for rings before he proposed). Rose gold can be naturally occuring and is in some areas such as the Black Hills where the copper is present along with the gold; it is very rare. At the jewler we went to, the rose gold settings were actually more expensive than similar yellow gold settings and about the same as similar white gold settings. I've not gotten any comments about my ring looking "cheap". Instead, I've had people tell me how pretty it is because it isn't super common. I too wear a silver watch and I don't think it looks all that off with my ring.

If you want your ring and your fiance's ring to match, make sure he's okay with having some rose gold in his band. I'm currently looking at a band for my fiance that is white gold, but has an interlay of rose gold in the center.

Rose gold is not naturally occurring, it has copper in it for the pink hue. The price will depend on how much copper is mixed in, and the price of copper is pretty high right now, so it can be more expensive. I asked the jeweler that I have onsite today, he said that he's never heard of rose gold turning green, so you should be good to go.

He also said that platinum is the longest lasting, but it's a "slurry" metal, meaning that it won't keep its shine as long. It will take on the brushed look, as it's very soft.

My e-ring is white gold and I have it mixed with the rose gold. I have gotten a ton of compliments on the rings when people see them, no one has said he was cheap, I would be shocked if they did, esp considering my e-ring is over a carat. I personally chose the rose gold because I am fair and it looks really nice with my skin tone.

White gold is actually rhodium plating, yellow is the only naturally occurring color for Au. If you have a white gold ring, you would need to replate it everyone once in a while, eventually it would turn yellow.
