Not Engaged Yet

New poster

I just wanted to post a quick intro. I've been lurking for a weeks and have made a few posts. Since I'm starting to get a feel for the board I wanted to introduce my self so you know who's posting.  I'm 28 from Houston, I got engaged in October '09 and am getting married June 25, 2010.  And for the questions:

Age: 28
Location: Houston, TX
What do you do? (Job/School/Etc): Sports Medical Advisor
An interesting fact about yourself: I'm a coupon queen....I can come out of the store with $150 worth of stuff and only have paid $40
Are you crazy? Not in the Carrie Underwood "Before He Cheats" way....
Are you fun? I've been known to have a good time in my younger days
Are you going to be hanging around a lot? Yeah, it's definitely more interesting than some work
What's the meaning of life? I'll get back to you
 What's your favorite color? Purple
Are you expecting a proposal soon? I got a totally unexpected one in October
Are you just here to chill? To chill and contribute where I can
Is your BF cool or lame? He's pretty much amazing
How do you feel about the following?
Mojitos: I've never actually had one....
Margaritas: I heart Margaritas....frozen. Peach is my favorite!
Cheap wine: I'm getting married at a winery. I drink wine cheap or boxed!
Mac & Cheese: It's a staple at my house!
Ice rinks: I love people watching at ice rinks.....there's always the grown women in the middle trying to do spins and jumps, makes my day!
Pandas: Super cute....but I hear they're mean (or is that Koalas?)
Cheese: I was born in WI! That alone should tell you of my special love for cheese!
Buttons: I don't think the minimum amount of flair really allows me to express myself.

When I first joined the knot I just looked around the different boards and had the most fun reading the posts on NEY.  I guess because all of the other boards have a definite theme and on NEY you never know what's going to pop up.  And being without a ring doesn't make you lame.....I haven't had a ring for too long yet so I remember what it's like before the ring!

Hi there! I am from Houston too ( but I live in Frankfurt, Germany now) and your mention of peach margaritas made me homesick! What winery are you getting married at? Is it in TX?

    Welcome.

About not having a mojito - if you don't like the thought of drinking toothpaste I would stay away. I guess that's just my personal take on them. I find them repulsive.

YellowroseFRA- I'm actually having a DW at Mt. Palomar Winery in Southern California.  You're missing the best time of the year here in Houston. Rodeo Time!

Loopy-I think that's why I've never tried one. I don't like the idea of a minty drink althought I've been hearing of differet mojitos like pomogranite mojitos and stuff.  But I'll probably just stick to my mimosas and wine!

I think koalas are mean or dangerou rather but I wouldn't want to be up close and personal with a panda either.

    And welcome!

Mimosas and wine are pretty great.

I also think it would be awesome to go to a rodeo in Texas.

They are panda BEARS so I would think they are dangerous up close.  But cute and cuddly in cartoon or stuffed animal form.

    Welcome to the board, darlin'!

Really?  You answered all of those questions.  So I guess now you are supposed to get automatic acceptance?
  • edited December 2011
I dunno, she's 28, engaged, lurked before posting and has a reason to want to post on this particular board rather than "omgggggg I need a ringggg!"

I've made longer, more waste-of-time posts than THAT one. I'm not judging.

It isn't the legnth for me. (Come on, I can be lengthy as well.)  I said before that I thought the intro questions were stupid and pointless.  I think that when people come in and answer all of these questions right away they are searching for validation.  It is that part that rubs me the wrong way.  I know that others don't feel that way.  It is just how I feel.

I can see your point. I don't really like the intro questions that much either. They don't bother me, I just feel like it limits new posters to a questionnaire instead of a real post about themselves.

    But, whatever floats your boat.

Ah, its good to have you back Mutley.

Not looking for automatic acceptance, just trying to get the questions out of the way.  I've read before when people introduce themselves and don't answer the questions they get asked later in the thread. Thought I'd save some time. And well....maybe those questions reminded me of those little survey thingies your friends used to email to everyone and it was a bit fun to answer those mindless questions again.

Mutley - glad you're back man. It's been a rough weekend.

See, I hate those forwards.  Hate.  Hate.  Hate.

I still see the questions as something a 'people pleaser' does.  You did them because you thought you HAD to answer them at some point.  You didn't.

Welcome! I love rodeos and I really want to go to one in Texas, just to say I did. haha

I love margarita's as well, but never tried a peach one...just I'll have to now!

Welcome and congrats on your engagement!

The way I see it, if they actually made it to the bottom of the NEY "survival guide" they probably read the blurb before the questions and know what they're getting themselves into.

Enh.  I think people take the 'survival guide' way too seriously.  It was funny at one time.  Now, it is old and played out.  It doesn't weed anyone out.  It just lets them know what people have found funny here and gives them more info than they should have.  Let them make their own mistakes, and let us jump on them.  It is what makes NEY fun.
  • edited December 2011
I'm all for letting people make their own mistakes, besides it's not like the serious BSC posters stop to lurk or would ever see the link for it. I just think it's annoying when we all sound like a broken record.

And I think it's hysterical when Oceana shows up and drops the mushroom cloud pictures during a shitstorm.

You're right....I did read the little blurb before the questions.  And I've been lurking around the board for a while so I've gotten a feel for things.  I enjoy reading the posts and resposes which is why I keep reading.  I'm a really dry humored sarcastic person which is why I enjoy a lot of the funny comments on this board.  That being said I also know there will be times when I'll have some of those comments thrown my way.  No worries!
  • edited December 2011
I have the button there b/c I think it's hysterical, shiney and pink.

As far as sounding like a broken record I was referring to the posts that follow a typical intro, all that jazz about how the poster should be communicating w/their BF, enjoy the anticipation of waiting to get engaged, marriage is more than just a wedding, etc. I figure if you care enough to actually click the link you've got a pretty good idea of where I stand w/o me having to say anything else.
