Interrogation Room: JEANA!

Okay, if no one else has started this today, I'm going to volunteer! I have class for an hour, and then I'll be sitting at work with nothing to do but work on my resume and avoid doing any kind of homework. And answer your questions.

So..... GO!

    Do you miss being mod?

Nope. I mean, sure I'm an AW and all, but to be honest it caused me a lot more stress than I needed. I felt like I had to watch what I said too much (I was apparently complained about by someone for being too mean), I stressed when things got heated (which we know they sometimes do), and I was afraid I might either appear to play favorites with my buddies, or that my buddies would get upset when I modded their butts. It was just too much thought for me. I took it very seriously and it was bringing me down, man. I didn't like being THE MOD instead of Jeana, the girl who writes long posts that people actually read. Tongue out

What did you like about how Loopy and Audgie have moderated?

Loopy was exactly what I expected- she was fair, friendly, and she did a great job. I wasn't really around much during her modding days (remember I took a hiatus), but from what I can tell she was great and I'm glad I handed my mod hat over to her.

I LOVE Audgie's humor. I think she's wonderful because modding doesn't seem to have changed her responses at all. I wish I'd had that kind of confidence and freedom as mod. But I don't miss it, and I hope she's having a better time with it than I did!

What would you have done differently?

I would have had a panic attack, that's what. No, I think they've both done great. I think it's a tougher job than many people think, and I have no problem at all with how others choose to cope with that responsibility and interpret the rules. If I do have a problem in the future, I will say so. Don't worry.

Have you ever met a Knottie IRL?

YES! I've met Jeter and Hetshup. I was actually WITH Jeter when she bought her wedding gown, and helped her pick it out. I met up with Hetshup when I was visiting my family in the Northeast. She and her hubby got to hang with me and my mom. My mom dominated the conversation, so I'm hoping for a do-over.

And forgive me for fogetting her screenname, but one girl who posted regularly on E but lurked over here a lot actually ran into me while I was volunteering one day. She said "Hey, this might sound crazy, but I know you from the Knot. You're Jeana, right?" It was very cool and unexpected.

I think that's everyone I've met... so far.

    Can you AW a painting?

One of my faves. Forgive the cell-phone quality. It's one of the few pics I have on my laptop. I was really happy with that one, though!

Where does your username come from?

It's a mishmash of my first and middle names, altered to rhyme a bit. Smile

    Salamanders or pickles?

Well, I would prefer to eat pickles rather than salamanders... but I would prefer to watch salamanders rather than pickles. So... it depends.

    Is Lousiana totally awesome?

It's pretty nice. It gets hot... and there are hurricanes now and then. But I love the warm winters and the city. I was always a city girl at heart.... even though I grew up in Nowheresville. The culture here is amazing, too. We get half a week off for MARDI GRAS. What the crap is the big deal with Mardi Gras? I don't know. It just IS a big deal here. And, I like that due to the high Catholic population, every restaurant features Lent menus, which clearly mark vegetarian options. Handy.

What is the meaning of life?

    42, obviously.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

    Breast Milk. HAHA!

No, but really- I love plain old chocolate or strawberry ice cream. However, dairy doesn't like me. So my new favorite is Mango-flavored coconut milk ice cream. It's the bomb. But it's expensive, too. So I get it for just special occasions. Like PMS.

How do you feel about intelligent life on other plants?

If I thought plants were intellgent, I don't know what I would eat!!! That's freaky.

What's your favourite piece of art that you've done?

Oh, wow, good question. I was pretty proud of donut painting I did last summer. Let me find a pic of it. The purple background was a vibrant, beautiful color, and the sprinkles were really successful even though I didn't really know what I was doing. I remember finishing it and thinking "Oh, hey... that looks yummy!"

    Do you enjoy salad?

No, I hate salad. Ironic, right? It's just not enough food for me.

What colour of the rainbow would you dye your hair if you had to (besides red)?

HAHA, besides red. Well, I would LOVE to try out purple. I've always thought about it, but I feel like I missed my crazy-young-adult window of time. I think I'm too close to 30 to do that now. But I don't know... I'm unpredictable! Laughing

What advice do you have for me the day before my wedding (and yes, I'll be back to read at some point today)?

Angie, you have been amazing and so incredibly calm. I think you already figured out what's important and what the whole point is of your wedding day. But here's my advice: Eat breakfast. Sit and enjoy your morning before things go crazy. Ignore anyone who might stress you out. Just get down that isle, say "I do" and kiss your husband. Everything else can go down the drain, but it doesn't matter. Just let it all wash over you and just be happy. It will be over SO fast. Cherish it. Smile. Everyone else can handle themselves.

    Sunrise or sunset?

Sunset, because I am grumpy in the morning!

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Obviously there was a hot-looking rooster on the other side and homegirl was like "Oooh, yeah, baby! I need to get myself closer to THAT hunk of feathered goodness!"

How much do you love me? No really. How much. :P

I love you a lot! Haha! You're my fulcrum <3

What is your single most favorite vegetarian recipe?

I love me some vegetarian curry. I don't have a recipe because a friend of mine sent it to me, but I have changed so much over the years. It was one of the first REAL veggie recipes I had, and it's the only one that I've successfully made my own. Her instructions barely apply now. I can just throw veggies in a big pot, toss in some spices and coconut milk, and put it over basmati rice and just YUM.

Every other recipe I have, I have to follow directions. The curry I can make however I want with whatever I have and it always turns out delicious.

    Why purple?

My favorite color was originally yellow, but I decided it was not very "me." Purple doesn't know what it is. Is it blue? Is it red? Is it pink? Is it indigo? A tiny change in the amount of primary colors can totally change the feel and mood of purple. It can change it from purple to something else entirely. It's so dynamic. Like me! Right? Innocent

If you had to pick an NEYer to be on a bowling team with you, who would you pick and why?

I would pick Mutley. I think she'd be great at any competition and we'd kick ass.

What kind of pet would you like to have?

I would have a tiger if I could have any pet. I love to watch the university mascot, Mike, when I'm walking to or from class. He's AMAZING. I love him. Terrifying and yet he moves and plays like my housecats. Amazing.

Would you want to live in a different place?

I am very mobile. I will live wherever DH's job takes us. But I have been thinking I'd like to live within driving distance of my family. But not too close. I want to live near a city, too. But if we stay here, that's fine. Or, we could try California... I would get along great with the hippies there. I dunno... I've been all over and I like new things, so I don't really mind so much where we end up.

    Do you like eggs?

I like to eat eggs, but I hate to cook them. I think they smell bad.

    Have you eaten anything "weird"?

In my childhood, I've eaten rabbit, squirrel, and deer. And elk. Those things all seem weird to me now. I don't find any vegetable or fruit to be too weird. It's just plants. How weird can they be?

DH thinks cottage cheese and applesauce together is weird, though. So, I guess there's that.

    What's the weather like?

It's mid-70s and overcast. It's been trying to rain all day, so I'm sure it will start pouring sometime this afternoon.

When did you get your first cell phone?

I think I was 17, just before I started driving. My parents wouldn't get me one, so I bought a prepaid-type deal where you had to buy time cards at the store. I got my own cell phone plan when I was 18, I think. I had a "real" job and got a Nokia phone that you could change the faceplates on.

What do you see for yourself in 5 years?

Let's see. Hopefully a couple of kids, and DH will be where he wants to be with his job. I don't know where we'll be living, but I will still be volunteering when I can. I hope I'll be a SAHM... but maybe I will work part-time or have my own Etsy store or something. I don't know. DH, children, a couple of cats... a roof over our heads. That's what I really want.

Those are the little flying-squirrel type things, right? Not recently. I met a legit flying squirrel when I was in primary school. They had all kinds of interesting field trips for us country kids back in the day.

Do you think it would it be wrong to name my first daughter, Jenna?

It's awfully close to your name... I think it might get confusing. But I wouldn't judge.

I have a veggie pizza from Subway. They're surprisingly good! Spinach, tomato, and black olives. And a bottle of water.

You forgot to mention meeting me Jeana!!!  :(  And here I was going to invite you to my engagement party in LA... and/or suggest staying together for D*Con... :(  (I would totally not drunkenly molest you!)

CRAP. I forgot I met Sunbird and Acrosthec at Dragon Con in September. I knew there was someone I was forgetting!

Sunbird and her FI and me and my DH and a couple of her friends went to Mellow Mushroom. It was fun- her friend is a total Dr Who nerd. AND I forgot to get a pic with Sunbird, dangit. Pics or it didn't happen, right?

I only got a minute with Acrosthec, though. And she's totally my internet twin sister. Embarassed

What's your favourite medium for art?

I like digital art. I enjoy the others- especially painting, but I like digital because it's so easy to change my mind without having to throw away what I've done.

What do you want to do with your degree?

I want to be a SAHM. LMAO

    1) I am of the opinion that a college education is great, even if you're just going to raise kids. Especially if my kids are anything like me. They'll have a billion questions like I always did. They'll want to be reasoned with, not told what to do. My mom claims I didn't come with instructions and that I was on my way to college before I started Kindergarten. So, I think having an education will help me with my own offspring. I look forward to passing my knowledge and curiosity down to them.

    2) I went for Mass Communication because it is versatile and I enjoy communicating in all kinds of ways. Written, verbal, visual... all kinds of ways. I think I could be happy in a lot of different kinds of jobs after any offspring are in school and I have some free time. I plan to fill that free time with some sort of work that I enjoy- something that has to do with communication, maybe with visual design. But I'm open to what that could be. I think the right thing will eventually fall into my lap... and of course I'll grab it and be awesome at it. But my husband is so awesome for supporting my main priority to be a full-time mom and maybe have a part-time career later in life just to keep myself busy.

I don't use a curry paste. I use tomato paste as a base, with fresh ginger and garlic. I add some curry powder and garam masala to taste... I like mine spicy.

I don't actually KNOW a lot about curry... it's just something my vegan friend sent me in my early vegetarian days... and it's evolved so much now that maybe it's not even really curry anymore. lol

I love you a lot, too. I think you're a very strong person, but still very sweet. I admire you.

Who was the first person you called to tell you were engaged, and what was their reaction?

Oh, gosh. Okay, so here's the story.

We called my mom. And I said "Hey, mom. What's up?" Like I always do, because I was trying to surprise her. Well, she goes on and on and one about this horrible story about my cousin's biological dad shooting and killing his wife and then himself while their granddaughter (my cousin's niece) was apparently in the house, and it's terrible and my cousin was going to try to get custody of her niece (another long story) and so on and so forth and it was horrible and unimaginable and no one expected anything like that or knew what to do.

And then I said "Wow... that's awful............... So, if you want some good news? Josh and I are engaged."

And my mom FREAKED OUT and I think she started laughing and crying and saying "WHY DID YOU ASK ME WHAT WAS UP! Oh my gosh I am SO SORRY, oh my gosh, but that is WONDERFUL! Oh, I wish you had just SAID that... why did you ask me WHAT'S UP you KNOW I talk a lot!"

It is nothing if not *facepalm* worthy. I guess I should clarify that I never met my cousin's father that I can recall. It was horrible and sad but not personally devastating to me or my mom. Just... way to start THAT conversation, Mom.

Who do you predict the next UB to get pregnant will be?

    I'm rooting for Acrosthec.

Are we still work out buddies (because I need some friggin accountability when I get back from Austria)?

Dude, we need to get in a texting groove.

    What's your favorite dessert?

My wedding cake. I still want more.

What kind of cupcakes should I make you when we finally GTG?

    Strawberry margarita!

What's your favorite item of clothing?

I like scarves a lot. I fell in love with a loose-knit warm-colors rainbow scarf (red-pink-orange-purple-cream) over the winter and wore it all the time. Now it's too hot to wear it. I need a new scarf like that but lighter-weight.

Do you sleep on your back, side, stomach, combo?

I fall asleep on my side or stomach but always wake up on my back.

What's the last thing you said to your DH?

This morning I think I said something like "Yes, I will drop of rent if the office is open. I love you, have a good day."

    Thanks!

No, I never really thought of selling it. I like to paint, but I haven't had time to continue since I'm not doing it for a class. I honestly don't think they're really good enough for someone to pay money for. I might give some as gifts in the future when I've got time to paint... but I just can't imagine anyone would pay cash money for my little dabbles in oil paint.

If I did an Etsy store it would probably be for something crafty. I like crafts. I might even do some design work... like for invitations or something. If I get good enough. And have the free time.

Do you ever eat at Izzo's? I'm curious about whether vegetarians love it as much as meat-eaters.

We get Izzo's now and then. I loved it a lot at first, but I am kind of tired of it now. My husband would eat Izzo's every day. I usually find I have to put my burrito in the oven to heat it up, though... I wish the food was actually HOT. But, yeah, it's good stuff.

    Do you like The Chimes?

I have actually NEVER been to the Chimes. I assumed they didn't have vegetarian menu items (silly me), but they DO. So, I just mentioned to DH a few days ago that we really should go eat there sometime.

Is it obvious that I miss BR?

Haha, a little. At least the food. Tongue out

Do you want any more pets?

I waffle on this. DH said he'd like to adopt 2 more cats when we get a house... but I kind of don't want to. I like our 2. I think it's a good number. We give them lots of attention and spoil them to bits. But, some days I think we could bring home Boots & Rosie, or I really like Jacob and he'd be a sweet one to adopt... or I wonder if Susan would put up with Pounce & Etcetera if we adopted her, since she adores DH so much (he volunteers with me).

Then I wake up this morning and my kitties have shredded a section of the carpet where it meets the wall (I guess a bug or something went down in the crease)... and I wince because there goes our security deposit... and I think.... okay... I do NOT want cats to outnumber humans in our home because they might just take us over.

However, maybe someday we MIGHT get a dog. Maybe. Etcetera is pretty scared of them. Or, she's pretty angry about them existing on this planet, I guess. Anyway, if we ever got a dog, I'd love to find a Golden Retriever mix.
