How much do you read?

After yesterday's post about the Life Boards, I stumbled onto their Book Club board and there is a post:

http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/47758613.aspx

Where they are talking about their current reads and how much they've read so far this year. I have no clue what the WBO means, any ideas?

Anyway, some of them are on their 3rd and 4th, maybe even more book of the year. My initial reaction was are you serious? it's only January 14th!

It got me thinking, since some of you are part of a bookclub. How much do you read? What are you reading now? What book are you on for 2011? Do you have any reading goals?

Depending on how interesting the book is I can finish one in three days if I read in the time frame of after dinner and before bed and the weekends.  Also if the books are 200ish pages its not hard.  I remember devouring the last Harry Potter book in three days flat.  Yeah I am a book worm and a speed reader.  I don't always read word for word, sometimes I scan a page and get the jist of what is going on that page.  I own a B&N nook and I want to get more use out of it, and there are some books coming out in the spring from my favorite authors, but I also work full time and go to grad school so reading isn't a big part of my activities as it used to be.

I read a lot, but not as much as I used to. I have only read one book so far this year and I haven't set a goal yet. I'm still reading Eat Pray Love and Something Blue.I'm not liking Eat Pray Love at all. The book that I did finish was King Dork. I'm not a regular on the book club board, but I do post on there. I go through phases where I read a lot and then don't read at all. When I was working as a lifeguard and then later as a wine seller in a tasting room I read a ton. Multiple books a month. But now that I'm in grad school the only time I really have to read is on the bus on my way to work/school. I'd like to read more. . . books are expensive!

My last post won't let me edit it.

I am currently buying The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's only $5 on the nook.

Midnite - Thanks for the explanation, all I was coming up with was book club and even then I apparently only got one word right.

I'm reading 1984 and The Girl Who Played with Fire right now. Almost finished the first and just starting the second. I guess that'll be 1 and 2 for 2011, my general goal is to read a book a month. However some are easy, I could've read the Twilight series in less than 2 weeks while others I have more difficulty with. When I was on vacation i was reading 3 books in 2 weeks, but I can't keep that up in regular life.

I own a nook too, so I'm usually reading two books at a time - one on the nook and a real-life book when I'm in the bath or whatever (nooks don't like water, I imagine...) - this year, I think I've read 4 or so books.  I'm currently reading This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  But yea, I read really fast.  It's a little ridiculous.

    I devour books.

I've read 40 books using the Kindle app on my Touch since July, and probably another 20-30 paperbacks on top of that.

So I'd guess I read in the neighboorhood of 120-150 books a year. That's at least 10 books a month.

Sheeit. I never looked at the numbers before. But that seems about right. I'd say I read 2 books a week most weeks. This is where the vast majority of my disposable income goes.

ETA: I'm currently reading The Girl Who Playe with Fire, as well as re-reading the Fever series by Moning in prep for the last book to come out Tuesday. I've also got a nonfict about emotional eating on the back burner. Nonfic always takes me longer to get through.

Now that I’m just working, I have a lot more time for reading. I reserve it for weekdays only because BF isn’t around, but I recently got sucked into Dancing with Degas when he was here on a weeknight. I think it was definitely a reality check for him. To be honest, I think he felt a little hurt at first, he didn’t know what a voracious little reader I used to be. Silly boys.

When they first wanted to diagnose me with ADHD, my mom told them to put me in a corner with a pile of books and see if I even breathed for the next 8 hours.

Right now I’m trying to find a copy of Girl with a Dragon Tattoo for NEY bookclub and looking forward to starting that.

I wish I had more time to read.  I read quite a bit - 5-10 books a month...depending on the month and my cash flow.

I used to read more...every single night. Since I moved in with FI, not as much. I still average about three books per month. I'll read more if I'm traveling or I just come across something I can't put down.

Wow you guys read a ton of books. I've read one so far this year, but that is because someone gave it to me for Christmas. Normally I don't really read except for the occasional one that someone gives me or says is a great book, which usually averages to about 3-5 a year.

Although once I have a book in my hands it usually stays there till I finish, so only about three or four days for a 500 page book.

I used to read so much more but with school I don't have a ton of time. I have a list of 100 books I would like to read this year but I don't know if I'll get through them all.

I read a ton... seriously, I'd rather read than watch TV. So far this year, I've read the entire Harry Potter Series and 2 other books... I'm waiting to get my nook fixed so I can start using it more! I've never really though about how many books I read a month/a year, but I'm sure it is a ton.

Midnite - No, I'm not on goodreads. What is it like?

I'm in awe, I love to read but am so slow in comparison to those of you that read 5-10 books per month. I also switch back and forth from fiction to non-fiction and the later takes me longer to read.

I went on a book binge after graduating last spring. With school and sports the only books I read were texts. My dad and bf both gave me reading lists and I have to balance out who's book I'm reading or I never hear the end of it! Currently I'm reading The Pillars of the Earth. I'm not getting through them as fast now that I'm driving so much to see BF and friends all over the midwest! I need to get audio books, but they are sooooo expensive on itunes!!

I am currently reading Fall of Giants (love Ken Follet - Eraver - Pillars of the Earth is soooo good!).  Also am reading a non-fiction.

I listened to Heartsick on our roadtrip (audio book) and we are finishing up listening to the sequel, Sweetheart.  I don't really count those as "reading."

I go through times where I read a lot then slack off for a bit.  I would say I read at least one book/month.  I am a pretty slow reader - no way I could skim a page and know what was going on.  I read every single word.  Sometimes twice.  :)

I often get books from the library, so don't spend too much $$ on them.  You can also get audio books at the library!  Saves a lotta scrilla.

I don't read as much as I'd like (that's one of my new years resolutions).  I used to read a lot when I was younger, but then when I started being forced to read for school, it kind of turned me off of leisure reading for a while.

I'm almost done with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and then I'm going to try reading the HP series as my easy reads.  I also re-read my Jane Austen books quite often.  BTW...shouldn't we be picking a genre for Feb??

I had read 3.5 novels by earlier this week... the half Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire I hadn't read by New Year's Eve, plus the later three books in the series.  I've also read a bunch of textbooks and school related materials.

I agree with almost all of the PP's. I love to read and when I get the chance I read a ton. I recently read the first Lord of the Rings again and haven't had the chance or energy to move onto the second. And I recently bought two new books that I still need to read. It's just so hard with school and stuff to find the time or energy. I usually am so tired when I get home I want to do nothing but lay on the couch and not move.

I'm just getting back into reading for fun now that I'm done with school. I've only read two books so far this year. We don't have cable and while I watch a lot of movies, I still read for a few hours a day. BF and I tend to read in bed before we go to sleep.

Since I work in a library, I'm always coming home with books to read. I have a list that has well over 100 titles I want to read and for awhile I stopped keeping track of incoming books that sounded interesting because I was getting depressed that I didn't have enough time for them.
