E-readers

I am thinking I should get an e-reader and have not kept up on which one is doing what and is better because... So all my e-reader ladies time to chime in. I am looking at three that seem to be just about the same.

IDK if this is true of all e-readers...but we got my 12 year old sister a kindle for christmas and she loves it, and a charge lasts like 30 days or something. which is awesome since she travels between my mom and her dads house.

my BF has the Nook color and he loves it. He rooted (routed ?) it so it has the ability to get Kindle book as well as Nook.

I have a Nookcolor and it's awesome.  I would not root my Nookcolor because it's illegal.  Obviously.

I have the Kindle and I love it! If you have a Target near you, you can test them out. I don't think they have the Kobo though..

Sorry I was just lurking on the board and thought I would chime in:

Borders is close to filing bankruptcy so I would avoid buying their e-reader as their future is pretty uncertain.

The only one I've ever heard of is the Kindle, so I vote for that one. Personally, I'm a snob and prefer real paper books, so I can't see myself getting an e-reader for a very long time.

Consider the amount of content you can get for each one--it may not be the same. You can also try them out in retail stores. If you have a Best Buy near you, they have Kindle and Nook side-by-side.

Molly, I have a Kindle and I LOVE it. TBH, I don't know much about the differences between them bcause it was a gift from my uncle who's a huge tech guy and he picked out the Kindle as being (in his opinion) the best choice. I can try to look into it more for you later, but I have mine and I love it.

I have been looking into it for a few hours so far and have come back with the kindle. I will go to best buy and hold them on my own hands to see what actually works best. So far the kindle has me since it holds more books, last longer on battery life and has less of a shine to it's face. I will let everyone know!

Oh and beads I saw myself as a book snob also.. I do have a large collection of books that I do display and intend on buying a book that I do want in paper form. Since I have a habit of reading several books at once, I see this as an easier way to carry them all, esp with my habit of falling, any less weight is better for me Wink

I'm looking into getting an e-reader as well because it just makes more sense with my commute and the limited space for books BF and I are going to have.

We have a subscription to consumer reports so I thought I would let everybody know what they said. They did rate Kindle higher then nook in general, specifically they claimed it had better readability, responsiveness, pageturn, and navigation, although the nook had better file support.

I have a question for you kindle girls, I heard that nook gives you access to loads of free books on Fridays, does kindle have anything similar?

    I"m not voting.

I have the Kindle 3G.  I LOVE it, but you can't check out books from the library.  You can check out books with the Sony eReader, Ipad... don't know about nook.

The Kindle sharing site is stooo-pid!  There are random books I've never heard of, and apparently you can only 'lend' your book once.

I've heard wonderful things about the Nook color.

I have Crossword puzzles, blackjack, jumble, stuff like that on my Kindle, and I love it.  But I'm pretty sure you can do that with Nook, too.
