helloooo + any golfers out there?

Hi all, I've been lurking for quite some time.  While y'all are hilarious, from "unofficially engaged" to "surprise ice skating rink weddings" to "omg I have to kick a bridesmaid out because they're not doing anything for my wedding in 2 years" -- I actually try not to spend too much time here to keep my wedding fever in check.

However, the BF (of 6 years, 2.5 long distance) is just getting into golf and I want to get him clothes...or something practical for x-mas. BUT don't know where to start with the wealth of products out there; I play just about every sport EXCEPT golf.  And I thought I'd be safe asking here...'cause face it, the big "M" word makes him run fast in the opposite direction.  So hello all, and any golf-gift advice is welcome!

Other ideas are: golf gloves, a good hat, gripping tape, special bag for your cell phone that you put inside your golf bag... My DH is an avid golfer. There are a lot of clothing options - any golf shirt will work. You may want to think about a rain jacket too.

Welcome! Kat's suggestions for gloves or gripping tape sound good. I dont know anything really about golf but I have seen where you can get customized t's and balls, that could be cool. Or a monogramed t pusher-downer thing? Sorry I'm not more help.

My dad and brother have been golfing my whole life. You can also look into a golf hat -titelist is a popular brand. Or some accessories-towel, divot fixer, ball marker, tees, balls, etc. Depending on where he plays he may need collared shirts and maybe a nice pair of kakhis.

Thanks LyzMcFlyz, but I've already seen the plethora of stuff out there.  Was trying to narrow it down.

I guess I was looking for more specifics on what an amateur might need, since he's got nothing but clubs.  Shirt and hat sounds like a good idea to start. Might go for the monogramed t pusher-downer thing on the birthday. Did not realize they couldn't push their own t down.

Depending on what you want to spend, aside from accessories and clothes you could get a golf game at a course he wants to try.

You can get him a putting green for home so he can practice putting... my boss has this one in his office... as he gets better he can step back off the green and practice shots from further away...

I don't know much about golf, but I think PPs have it mostly covered. I would also go with balls. You can never have too many golf balls and if he is just starting that would be good because he might not always get back the ones he hits.

I agree with Lyz but I saw one at Target yesterday for $22. Unless you know what kind of gloves and balls he likes I would stay away from those, FI is really picky about his golf stuff. However, some nice golf clothes and generic accessories like a divot tool, ball marker, ball cleaner and golf towel are a good idea, like other ladies have said.
