I haven't started yet but as soon as my mom sends me back my Kindle (I let her borrow it for a trip she went on) I'm going to read The Modern Library's Top 100 Books - first the board's picks then the reader's picks.

I'm doing an A-Z book challenge. I'm trying to read a book that starts with each letter of the alphabet. I just finished the "His Dark Materials" series and wasn't really a fan. I liked some parts of the books, mostly the first one, but I wouldn't really recommend it. I need to pick up another book from the library tomorrow since I just finished "Lyra's Oxford." Shortest book I've read in a long time. I have about 500 books on my list of books to read. Working in a library for the past 7 years will do that. lol

Other books I've read recently are "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." I would recommend both of them. P&P&Z is really only amusing if you've read P&P though.

If you like fantasy I definitely recommend "The Hero and the Crown" by Robin McKinley or anything by Mercedes Lackey in the Valdemar series.

A few books that are popular right now (but I haven't read) are "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series by Stieg Larsson (I really liked the movie but the waiting list at the library is still really long), and "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini.

Not really sure what you're looking for in a book, but maybe you'll find something interesting in these. And sorry for massive amount of suggestions. Books are kind of my thing being a librarian-in-training and all. lol

I've been watching "Rizzoli & Isles" on TNT, and it's based on a series of books by Tess Gerritsen. I just picked up the first one from the library today and will start it tonight.

Also the newest Midnight Louie mystery (by Carole Nelson Douglas) came out last month, so I just put that on hold at the library as well. I think there are 23 total books now--I've been reading them for the last 12 years (wow!).

I'm kind of partial to mysteries.

I normally read horror/thriller (Stephen King/Joe Hill). I also like "coming-of-age" novels(The Bell Jar, Catcher in the Rye), so basically anything in those two genres, I would like to read something new though.

I am currently reading Very Valentine, by Adriana Trigiani and Such a Pretty Fat, by Jennifer Lancaster. The first is about a woman in NYC who works with her grandmother in their custom shoe shop. The second is a hilarious memoir. The first book in the "seriies" is Bitter is the New Black and I highly suggest it if you are looking for a quick and funny read.

I've been reading a lot of nonfiction recently. The last book I read was My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler, which was pretty funny and sassy.  Currently I'm reading Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain which is a pretty fascinating accout of his rise to fame. It's also an interesting behind the scenes look at the restaurant business.

I loved <em>My Horizonal Life.</em> I also read her two other books, <em>Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea </em>and <em>Chelsea Chelsea, Bang Bang</em>. She's a much better writer than a stand up comedienne, I think.

I'm a VERY slow reader.  I'm currently trying to finish up Eclipse so that I might have a shot at finishing the last book before the movie comes out (yes, I'm THAT slow).

If you're into chick-lit, I'd recommend:
Shopaholic series (SO much better than the movie)

Currently Reading: The Book of Negroes (I can't think of the author off the top of my head)

Want to Read: A Malcolm Gladwell book (recommended by a friend, she loves him!), The Lovely Bones, Purpose for the Pain (the book that came out of To Write Love on her Arms), and I am Nujood, age 10, and Divorced.

I am reading the third installment in the Stieg Larsson series, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.  I'm almost done but it's my least favorite of the three (I loved the first one).

Anyway I suggest you read The Hunger Games.  Even if you're not into Young Adult, it (and the whole trilogy) is so good you won't be able to put it down.

What book/books are you currently reading? - The only thing I am reading right now is The Exceptional Child. It isn't really so much a book as it is a 900 page monstrosity that kind of makes me want to die. It's for school so don't worry about that!

- I have an unhealthy obsession with Jennifer Weiner fiction - I just love her style and everything has an underlying meaning. I'm anxiously awaiting her new release probably in 2 years. lol. I also would like to read Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs *I have the book just no time to read it*
I also love True Crime books and a lot of satire/non-fiction. I don't have a specific book but I like to read
 self-improvement books, honestly.

At the moment all I'm reading is psychology textbooks.  I wouldn't recommend them haha.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak was absolutely amazing.  I read The Kite Runner for school a couple years ago and enjoyed that too.  However, both of those books are kind of heavy reading.

My two favourite John Grisham books were The Rainmaker and A Time to Kill.  Not horror thrillers, but legal thrillers.  As for horror books, I have no suggestions because they scare me.

Midnite, try The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. It's kind of horror/thriller/ coming of age all rolled into one. It's actually kind of similar to the Dark Tower in some ways I think.

If you like forensic or other Law & Order type novels, I recommend these authors:

Kathy Reichs ("Bones" is based on her books, but the book characters are a bit different than the TV characters. You'll also learn how to swear in Quebec French.)

My current books read are under the guilty pleasure list:  The Gossip Girl series.  I just started them last month and just finishe the 4th book.  I don't watch the show.  The books are an ok read...very easy and high school.  That's why I call them a guilty pleasure. 

I have a wide range of authors I like:  Nora Roberts (her bridal quartet series is my favorite), Kathy Reichs, Mary Higgins Clark, and Laurie Wick (Christian fiction) to name a few. 

I have a list of aver 200 books that I want to read (my bucket reading list) from a wide variety of genres and authors.  I'm slowly plugging away at it!

Currently reading White Shark by Peter Benchley. I've read it before and loved it. Great way to drag out summer a little longer, and it's not what you think it's about.

I've been hearing good stuff about The 19th Wife by David Ebersoff...I may be checking that one out next.

I just finished THE STRAIN by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, it's an amazing book that is set up to be a trilogy, and the 2nd book (THE FALL) comes out on the 21st(my birthday!!). its a vampire thriller/horror, with no sexy vampires.

I also LOVE the SOOKIE STACKHOUSE NOVELS by charlaine Harris (True Blood TV show is based on them). I have gotten a bunch of my friends, clients and co-workers to read the books too, and everyone loves them! I like them better then the show, as does anyone i know who has read them, and we all LOVE the show, especially Eric!

Another awesome writer is kelley armstrong and her TALES OF THE OTHERWORLD series!

There seem to be a number of chick-book recommendations going on, so to stay with the trend, a chick book I just read was The Art of War for Women by Sun Tzu. It's a quick read, but it's really cool and inspirational.

I would say that my favorite author, Douglas Coupland writes "coming of age" books, though the tone is not always what you might call uplifting. Check out Generation X.

My two favorite authors at the moment are Jodi Picoult (I would suggest Salem Falls or Plain Truth) and Jen Lancaster.
