Not Engaged Yet

Now taking donations.

So I need to distract myself from the dating world. I figured the best way to do this is to go to the gym. Unfortunately, I find it very hard to get up early in the morn. I have heard that it isn't good to work out before bed though. Has anyone else been told this? Is it bad if I just go on my three days off? Need some thoughts on a work out reg, please and thank you!

Re: Now taking donations.

  • Its not suppose to be good to go to the gym close to bed time cause it elevates your core temp and pumps adrenaline into your system and prevents you from sleeping, so I was told.  In reality I used to go to the gym between 9 pm and sometime 11 pm at night came home, showered and went to sleep.  Slept like a rock.  But I will say that gym first thing in the morning was always great, cause I felt like I accomplished something before the day really began.  Kicks starts the morning off greatly.  Problems is getting out of bed in the morning.  It was easy when I was single or not living with FI, I would happily wake up at 5 am to go to spin class at 5:30 am.
  • I am not good at morning either, but I am considering trying it for a week after the new year since I know our gym will be packed in the evenings. I also usually work out between 7pm and 9pm and it actually helps me sleep because I'm tired from my work out. But, if neither early morning or late evening works for you, try starting with you days off and then add in more days when you think you are ready for them.

  • I haven't heard if one is necessarily better than the other.  I think it might be preference and of course your life style.  I find that when I go to the gym in the evenings and do a hard workout that I have trouble getting to sleep, I'm all hopped up.  When I go in the mornings I feel better throughout the day and I feel like I got it out of the way already and can enjoy the evening.  It is hard at first but after a couple of weeks doing it, your body starts to get used to getting up and going.

I'd say that if you are just starting out and all you can manage is 3 days then that is better than nothing!

  • Can you go after work? Or is getting out of work for you later in the evening?

    Anniversary

  • I used to go at 5 am but then found myself ready for a nap around 3 so I switched to going right after work and then I slept great at night too.

Three days is better than zero days!
