When do you buy gifts?

When do you normally buy a gift for a shower or wedding?

I was looking at my friend's registry... and the bath towels she wants, as well as the pots and pans are all on sale. The pots and pans are actually half price right now. But her shower isn't until June and the wedding isn't until August, so it feels kind of early to be buying gifts.

Normally, I buy the gift closer to the event. Any reason I should hold off?

And I don't see why not, the longer you wait the less you'll get to choose from on the registry.

Unless its something on that registry that you want to get them in particular then I don't see a reason to wait.  I usually wait till like a month or two before.

I say go for it. You have complete selection of the registry right now AND they are on sale, sounds perfect!

GET EM! I usually just wait until they're on sale, or I get a coupon. It might be tacky, but they're still getting what they want, and I'm getting a better deal. I never buy anything from Bed Bath & Beyond unless I have a coupon...usually 20%.

I say go for it.  The couple should not care whether you bought their gift on sale or not, and frankly, I'd be surprised if they even know you are buying them on sale.  If you have the funds to make the purchase now, I would definitely do it.

lol. Jen, we had a whole conversation about that movie when Bren got back! I love the movie, but afraid Bren isn't such a fan...

Bren, I would totally buy now! If you don't want to give the shower gift until the actual shower, you could just have it mailed to your place and then bring it with you to the event. I see no problem sending a wedding gift early though. I think many couples appreciate it actually so they can stagger writing thank-yous.

I'd buy it. Then you got it on sale. Why not, right?

Haha yeah it is. Absolutely amazing, but the weather was awful and we nearly ended up stuck there ;)

And Allusive is correct; I can't stand the movie :P

Thanks girls. It really is a HUGE discount right now so I think I'll just go ahead and get them.

I always buy gifts super early. I would go for it! I bought bath and body works products that were onsale that I'm saving for next Christmas:) I actually just gave a birthday gift of bath and body works and a picture frame to a friend this past weekend. I have had all that stuff for a couple months now. If something is on sale, I just pick it up and save it. Your always going to need to give someone a gift!

I would buy them. Sale and first pick of what to get them, nice. Also check online for coupons or promo codes.

I ditto other posters. I check every now and again leading up to the wedding and buy when there is a good deal and before most of the stuff is gone. I hate being the gift giver of the random leftover stuff. I've learned my lesson from waiting. I'd rather buy them a set of china or their coffee maker than be the random box of stuff giver with one ladle, plus their salt and pepper shakers, plus their can opener and 2 out of the four table napkins, etc. You know...the little stuff that's always kind of leftover at the end. But I'm kind of crazy like that.
