Got my butt kicked last night!

So I tried a workout class with one of my girlfriends last night. This friend has an amazing bod, so I was skeptical about my ability to survive...but I made it through! One of the girls in the class said "You did awesome! I think I probably cried my first time here". Made me feel pretty good. Needless to say I was definitely slower than the other gals...and I'm so sore this morning...but I did it! I think i'm going to go on a regular basis with my friend now...keep my weight loss ticker going in the right direction.

What little victories have you ladie's had this week? Any accomplishments you want to share on here? (they certainly don't have to be health/weight loss related!)

I made it into work today only 30 minutes late and without getting in a car accident.  Considering what a mess the driving was, and how aggressive and angry everyone was, it's a big surprise!  I could have walked to work quicker, no joke.  The last mile took me 25 minutes!!!!

That's my accomplishment of the day.  Oh, and I didn't ram any of those idiots with my car.  I was tempted.

I went on a 3-mile run last night. Doesn't sound like much, but considering I had gotten all the way home but still got my butt back out the door, i consider it a small victory.

    Nice job, girl!

I shoveled out my car and made it to work on slippery roads.  That's an accomplishment, right?

Nope... I have my final fundraiser tomorrow night, and then after that I focus on the running only!  I have raised over $2,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and I'm so proud of myself!  I've put over 200 miles on my sneakers - pretty incredible!

My race is Feb 27th.  I'll definitely AW like crazy when it's done!

Congrats on your run!  3 miles is great!

Cate - That is awesome! Great job! I have a race that weekend, too. It's a 200-mile relay race, but luckily I only need to do 15 of those miles, and not all in a row :)  We can AW together afterwards!

I want to get good at running. How do you start training? When  you FIRST started? It's hard to get going. Did you just run as far as you could everyday or use some type of program or trainer or something?

Google "Couch to 5k" - it's a series of walking/jogging intervals building up to being able to run a 5k non-stop.  Basically, I did this without realizing it - I started by walking 5 minutes, jogging 1 minute, for 20 minutes.  Then 4 minutes walking, 1 minute jogging, for 30 minutes.  Then 3 minutes walking, 2 minutes jogging, for 30 minutes.  If a pace is challenging, keep doing it a few times until it gets easier.  You want to go "wogging" (my word for walking/jogging intervals) at least 3-4 times per week.  By the 4th week, you should be flipping the intervals - running more than walking.  Probably a 2/1 (2 mins run, 1 mins walking) interval, building up to a 5/1 interval. I'm currently at a 5/1 interval, and plan to run the half on that.

I'm so impressed by everyone who can run!

And Allusive, your success at class last night also sounds impressive. I enjoy that sore feeling the next day, it reminds me that I'm actually making progress.

I personally haven't had any little victories lately. Next week I have a bunch of midterm exams, so hopefully I come out of those victorious, but we shall see...

ooh! Me too! I have a treadmill...and tons of nice paths around my condo. I keep wanting to get started, but then I feel totally weak and don't keep it up. I usually walk with spurts of running for as long as I can handle...then back to walking. I feel like if i kept it up, my "spurts" would get longer until I could run the whole time. How did you ladies get started?

My victory is last night, I went on a tour of a school I'm thinking about going to and I got so lost and turned around while driving there that I showed up almost 20 minutes late BUT I STILL SHOWED UP. In the past I would have cried and gotten so frustrated I just would have turned around and went home. Instead, I stopped and asked two very nice ladies at a Hilton how to get to the building behind theirs because my GPS was taking me in circles. They told me the right way and I got there and I'm very, very glad I did because now I REALLY want to go there.
