Driving Questions

After driving four hours on Sunday (to Central NY & back) and then five hours yesterday (to Boston & back) I have some serious driving questions to ask. I feel like there are enough people on here that someone HAS to do these things, and I really need to know why.

1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?

2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?

3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?

4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?

5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?

6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?

7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?

8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?

9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?

10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions? The dashed line (- - - - - - -)

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions? Same as above.

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not? ALWAYS, and it REALLY pisses me off when people don't! I don't magically know you're changing lanes -- you need to tell me instead of just cutting me off!!

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed? Yes.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best? I wing it. They all have about the same rules. Everyone needs to use their turn signal on roundabouts too!

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car? Keep going. They're supposed to yield.

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over? Depends on the traffic, but if there's light traffic, I'll just go ahead and get over.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road? Yes, I am very aware.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do? Change lanes to have a lane between me and the cop car.

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed? 80 mph.

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions? Left lane for passing.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions? Left lane for passing?

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?
What is a "blinker"? jk, religiously.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed? Never. Cruise control is powered by the devil, thankyouverymuch, I'm good.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best? N/A

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car? This is starting to sound like a painful driving experience....

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over? ASAP when someone is not beside me. I am not a professional race car driver.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road? Awwwww

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do? Call the rubberneckers bad bad words.

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed? Slightly faster than those to my right?
  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?

    Left = passing, right = normal/slow.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?

Left: Passing, Middle: Travel, Right: You better be getting off soon.

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?

Usually, yes.  I only don't use my blinker when you've been a raging assswipe and deserve to be cut off.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?

Not really.  Depends on how I'm feeling - I used to use it when I was driving long distances frequently.  Since I normally only drive in rush hour and short distances now, I have a harder time with it.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?

I wing it.  If I screw it up the first time, I can usually try again.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?

You continue through the circle.  The person entering the circle is required to yield.  (I learned this in Germany)

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?

Depends on the flow of traffic.  If everyone is moving at a normal speed, I'll get over then.  If they're doing 50 in a 65, I'll get over once I get around the morons.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?

Yes.  Although they need to move those deer crossing signs from high traffic areas so deer stop crossing there.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?

Slow down or move over to the left (assuming they're pulled over on the right shoulder)

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?

    Between 70 and 75

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions? I don't know what you're asking here (or in number two) BUT the yellow line/median is the difference between directions and the white lines/dashes are between lanes.  Usually left is for passing

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?  Same as #1.  I do try to chill in the middle to avoid exit only lanes though

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not? Absolutely.  I usually wish I were a cop so I can pull over people that don't.  It's simply not smart when cars are equipped with a blind spot.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed? On longer trips, yes.  Not in rain or weather either though, that's a bad idea if you start hydroplaning

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?  I'm pretty good at reading signs and whatnot.  But traffic circles primarily work the same from what I've seen.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car? um, keep going.  I'm in the roundabout.  They have a yield

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over? As soon as it's safe to do so.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?   Yepp.  I'm a reading machine

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do? Slow down or move into the left lane, if I can do either safely.  The idea is not to pulverize the cop with my car :)  That'd be bad

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?  68-70.  I'm a pretty slow driver.

Not what separates the lanes... What is each lane FOR? (Sorry if that was confusing.)

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?
The left lane is for those that want to drive a bit faster.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?
The far left lane is usually for the fast drivers. Middle lane is for people who are not as fast but not as slow as the people in the far right lane. I actually stay in the middle lane so that I don't have to worry about slow people in the right lane or people merging into the lane.

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?
Always. It's what I was taught to do and it annoys the crap out of me when people don't use it.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?
Never. Cruise control freaks me out.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?
I mainly just read the signs or wing it, after I make sure there's no oncoming traffic.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?
Depends on how close the other car is. If I can continue before they get close, then I'll continue.

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?
As soon as I see the sign.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?
I'm aware, I always read them and do what they say.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?
I slow down. Sometimes I will change lanes to get away from the police car but it depends on traffic. But I don't rubberneck! Usually...lol.

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?
I'm actually considered a slow driver...my friends and BF say I drive like a grandma haha. So I usually never go above the speed limit.

    1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?  In normal circumstances the left is the fast lane/passing lane.  Right lane is travel.  In Connecticut it's the opposite

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?  Right=slow center=travel left=passing lane

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?  If I'm in heavy HEAVY traffic I do.  If it's just me and like four other cars and a four lane highway, I think I'll be okay.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?  Where I live you cannot use cruise control, people drive like idiots.  My parents live off of Route 17 in upstate NY and that's the only time I can use it.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?  Follow the signs.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?  Keep going?

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?  When I see the sign

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?  I do read them, I don't think a lot of people do though.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?  Get into the center/left lane so you're not up his rear.

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?  80 mph

ETA-Changed the first answer, I didn't understand the question correctly lol.

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?

The left lane is for swiftly moving traffic. If you're going slower than the person behind you, move over and let them pass.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?

The farthest left is for the fastest traffic, the middle is for those going the speed limit or 5 over, and the far right is for the slow pokes and enter-ers/exit-ers

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?

Sometimes. I try to when people are following me. I also do it when I'm not in a hurry. When I'm rushing, I don't.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?

Eh. In the city, not really, unless it's late at night and I'm rushing, but I don't want to go overboard and get pulled over. I use it driving out of the city all the time.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?

I read signs like a mo fo. There are only two traffic circles in Houston. They're terrifying bc the streets get all discombobulated at that point and I always end up turning on the wrong one.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?

Continue through. I have the right of way. (right????)

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?

Depends. Is there an asshole in the lane next to me? What about a semi? If there's someone there I need to pass, I'll pass them and get over at the last second. Normally though, I get over pretty quickly.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?

Most of the time, yes. I tend to gloss over speed limit signs in the city.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?

Move over to the next lane and go the speed limit. If I can't move over, I lower my speed to 20 MPH below the speed limit as I pass (per TX law).

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?

    65? Usually 80.

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?
Right is for driving, left is for passing.  I move back to the right lane when I am done passing.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?
I stay to the right unless I am passing.  Sometimes that means moving all the way to the left sometimes to the middle.  If you are driving slow in the middle lane, I will just pass you on the right.  Another NEYer has told me I am wrong, but I honestly have never heard before that the middle lane is for travel.  Keep right except to pass is what was drilled into me in drivers ed.

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?
    Yes.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?
Yes.  I can't believe how many people don't use their cruise.  I hate when I have the cruise set and I end up having to pass the same car multiple times because they keep varying their speed.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?
Follow signs.  There is like one round about near me and it is at an exit I never use, so I am not super familiar with them.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?
Unless I have a yield sign, I keep going.

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?
Move over as soon as I finish passing.  Or if traffic is heavy and I be able to get ahead of the slow cars, I will start looking for a gap right away.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?
    Yes.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?
Move over.  If traffic is too heavy to move over, then you are supposed to slow down (at least in Michigan this is the law).

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?
I don't think anywhere in Michigan is 65.  Highway is 70, I drive around 75.  Around cities where traffic is really moving, I just follow traffic flow which has meant 80+.  In super rural northern Michigan, I slow down to 73-74.

In Ohio where the speed limit is 65, I drive 65.  I hear they love to ticket out of staters.

When I'm rushing, I don't. </strong> 4. (right????) 7. 65? Usually 80.

OMG THANK YOU. Cruise control is pretty much the best thing ever. I'm not sure why people are scared of it.

Also, I'm the one who told you about the center lane = travel lane. The "keep right to pass" rule definitely still applies, but that's mostly a "stay out of the left lane, slow mofos" on a 3-lane highway.

  • *Disclaimer - I am answering these without reading anyone else's responses. Hopefully i'm not way off base here...or a big time offender in Bri's eyes!!! haha.

    1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?
Right = slow lane, left = fast lane.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?
    Right = merge/Slow, Middle = Speed limit, Left = Fast/passing lane

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?
Yes. I hate when people don't use their blinker. It's the only way I have a clue what you're thinking about doing!

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?
Not generally, but if it's a long trip or on the toll road here (where there are lots of cops), then yes.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?
I try to read the signs, but sometimes those things come out of nowhere. If I don't have a clue and I feel rushed, i'll just go around the circle 3 times until I figure it out.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?
Once in the circle, I keep going. I've always believed that the circle folks have the right-of-way and the incomers have to merge. Hopefully i'm not wrong on this!

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?
ASAP. I hate being rushed and I hate looking like i'm trying to jump ahead of everyone else who did it properly.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existence/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?
If it's a road i'm less familiar with, I pay pretty close attention. If i'm somewhere I drive all the time though I can be guilty of "autopilot" driving.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?
I maintain my speed. I hate that everyone slows down. It causes traffic jams for no reason!

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?
    70. I'm a 5-7MPH over kinda gal.
  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?  The two lanes you can drive in are marked with a dashed line. The one you don't cross is marked with a double solid line.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?
    Same as above.

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?
YES! People should aways use their dumb blinker! especially in rush hour traffic! -_-*

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?
    Yep.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?
I read the signs. A few weird roundabouts in Denver go the other direction.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?
The other car usually has a yeild sign, but I slow down a bit just in case they're about to be dumb.

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?
     I get over right away.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road? About 95% of the time.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?
    I move over a lane.

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?
    Usually somewhere between 65-70.

I couldn't remember who it was.  I am definitely keeping it in mind, but it still bothers me when the middle and left lane are congested/moving slower than usual and no one is using the right lane.  Well actually it makes me happy because I can get in the right lane and pass everyone. Plus since no one is in that lane I am usually able to set my cruise.  Double win.

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?
Left for passing, right for traveling.

    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?
Left for passing. Center for traveling. Right for merging on and off. Everyone in that lane should ideally be going around the speed limit, not going 10 under, or passing people.

    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?
Yes. Always. Because it's the law? And it's annoying when you have no idea wtf people are doing because they're too cool to signal.

    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?
If I'm on a road without lights, absolutely.

    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?
    I read the signs.

    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?
Continue. It's up to them to yield-they're the ones entering traffic.

    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?
As soon as I can without having to slow waaaay down if the car next to me is going ridiculously slow.

    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?
I'm super aware of them. I can tell you a lot of random things that are between here and my hometown, because I always read all the signs, even though I know the way to go by heart.

    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?
Slow down to within 5mph over the limit and move over.

    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?
I set my cruise at 78

  • 1. You're driving on a highway that has two lanes in each direction. What are the lane distinctions?
Right lane-slow/speed limit, left lane-faster, passing
    2. The highway becomes three lanes. What are the lane distinctions?
Right lane-entering/exiting highway and super slow pokes, middle lane-travel lane/speed limit, left lane, passing/fast lane
    3. Do you use your blinker when you're changing lines on the highway? Why or why not?
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS. I scream very mean things at people who refuse to use their blinkers when changing lanes.
    4. Do you use cruise control when on the highway in normal driving conditions (ie. NOT rush hour/construction/etc) to maintain a steady speed?
Hardly ever. I'm pretty good at maintaining speed on my own.
    5. You're approaching a traffic circle/rotary/roundabout that you've never been through before. Do you read the posted signs and/or observe the ground arrows so you know which lane you're supposed to be in, or do you just wing it & hope for the best?
There are very few roundabouts in northern VA, so the ones I approach, I already know which lane I need to be in. But new ones, I try hard to approach at a reasonable rate of speed, slowly if possible, so that I can read signs and follow them. If there is no way to get to the section I need to be, I will go back through the circle and try again.
    6. While in said traffic circle/rotary/roundabout, you see another car approaching an entrance for the circle that you are about to pass. Do you continue through the circle, or do you stop for the other car?
I continue through. They have to yield.
    7. You see a sign that says the lane you're in is going to end in 1 mile. When do you move over?
I get over as soon as it is safe to do so. I don't like being the a-hole that waits till the very last gosh darned second and then jams up traffic. That shiz pisses me off to no freaking end.
    8. Signs in general - are you aware of their existance/do you read them/observe what they are telling you to do on the road?
    Yep.
    9. There is a police car on the side of the highway, after pulling someone over. What do you do?
If I am in the lane right next to the shoulder that they've pulled off on (left or right), I move over to the middle or opposite lane, if safe to do so. If not, I slow down to approx 5 below the posted speed limit to allow for safe passing and quicker braking should the need arise. Safely passing =/= rubber necking. I do hate people that slow to 25 below the speed limit so that they can check things out.
    10. The speed limit is posted at 65 mph on the highway (I know it's 75 mph in some places, but we're using the 65 mph standard here) - what is your usual rate of speed?
    Typically 75-80 depending on traffic.

Watch out for the d-bags who waited until 100 feet before the exit to cross three lanes of traffic. Middle lane: anywhere between 65 and 80mph Left lane: also anywhere between 65 and 80mph, but you are free to btch about the person going less than 70 and the lack of a fourth lane With traffic Right lane: 20mph, merge at the last possible second, preferably long after the lane has ended Middle lane: 20mph, scream obscenities at the carpool cheats in the left lane Left lane: 70mph except for the hypermiling Prius going 55. Mostly empty except for carpool cheats, electric vehicles, and a couple genuine carpoolers
