Mana that is neat that he said it would be in march it would be so romantic if it was on a cruise! I think it would make the waiting easier if you knew that bit of info :) Wonder what goes through their little heads trying to figure out the perfect way to propose? I wonder if they get as nervous as we get anxious? I would imagine for the ones who let the girl pick the ring out they must know they will get a yes so it would be a little easier.

My FI was like this before he proposed. I knew he had the ring, and he would tease me about when he would propose and that i wouldn't know it. Then he go on talking about how he couldn't wait to be married, though he added on the kids scenario. Like I can't wait to have kids with you, little ones running around.... and all that jazz! I was like "WHOA HOLD your horses buddy" wedding first then we can talk about kids. He's more excited about kids then getting married. He proposed on some random date soon after. It really did catch me off guard. He did it after we got done with surfing on a Saturday like we always do. So there were no signs to give it away.

Yea, he said he'll still be nervous. Even asking my dad (they are like best friends it's ridiculous). But at least he knows I'll love my ring. I think it'll be AMAZING on the cruise, esp if it's at sunset in the bahamas! Poor boy can't keep a secret to save his life... I already know all my christmas gifts, but I think it's cute.

JMM - My dad and BF grew up in that area. I filled BF's stocking with App State stuff. I got accepted way back when, but didn't go, SO did the BF... we always wonder if we still would have met if our lives went that direction... When he told me he was from NC, when we met, I asked, "Near Boone?" and that's how we got to talking... haha so it's kinda meaningful, but not really to us.

same with me! he started teasing and talking about it a lot, but i had no idea he had got the ring from my parents yet (a family ring)... he did it less than 24 hours after getting the ring, at Haunt the Zoo no less! i was completely surprised. for a while, i had tried to guess when he was going to do it, and it was making me miserable. so at one point he told me it would be after Christmas... and then i just quit worrying about it. so when he did propose at the end of october, i was so surprised. i had no idea until he pulled the ring out. i thought he was just pulling me off into a garden at Haunt the Zoo to show me how pretty the flowers and lake looked with all the glowing lights, and then he starts getting all romantic and pullin gout a ring... all i could think of to say was "SHUT UP! are you serious?!?" and then... "who did you tell???"... :)

@mana Cute! It is so incredibly snowy here now. I was at the AppState/Michigan upset (I made it on the ESPN with my tuba), and every national championship/playoff game since 2006. When people get all caps I worry we slaughtered their team sometime.

Yeah I had the whole I told you it would happen before the end of the year spiel so I have till 11:59 pm on Dec. 31st to do it. He kept saying it so much that I believed he would propose on New Year's Eve. So when it we were done with surfing on that fateful day and I was dragging my lifeless body out of the water with my big a$$ surf board him proposing was the LAST thing that I was expecting. I was actually annoyed at that point cause he ran off to the car (to get the ring which I didn't know) and didn't offer to help me with my surf board. I didn't have a SHUT UP moment it was more like AM I GETTING PUNKED?

Oh my gosh. Like two weeks ago I complained there was no one else here from NC. Then JMM appeared, then Coffee, and now Eidna.

    I am so excited :)

I am from the RTP/RDU area. Born and raised here, but my parents are from NY.

If you guys think a ring is important to be engaged then yeah, I would just wait to tell people that you are. If you don't feel that is something you need then skip it. Personal preference on you and your SO's part.

JMM - haha no no, I really don't have a college football team, maybe UNC or Penn State. We watched the game last weekend and I was like SNOW! And sure enough my cousin posted pics of her baby's first snow (he's 8 months). I got down for Thanksgiving and this was the first year I didn't see snow before I came back north.

CoCo - AWE Sometimes I wish I was going to be surprised. Part of me thinks he'll do it sooner than March and he's just saying that to throw me off. Either way, I love my Carolina boy...

Can I be a Carolina Girl by association?! I've been going down to visit my mamaw and family 3-4 times a year for my whole life... and I'm dating a NC Boy... I WANT IN THE CLUB!

OMG did you see the app painted plastic santa? My friend made him and I heard he made it on tv. He is named Fvckin' Touchdown Santa. During the game people would throw snow in the air and yell "fresh pow", it was by far the best time I've had at a football game. As for your credentials, I'll have to talk it over with the Carolina girl league but I think we can make an exception ;-)

AWE no I didn't see the santa. We had Mandatory fun day Saturday (BF's Holiday Party, he's in the Army) so we missed half the game. And UNC was playing Kentucky in basketball so I made him keep switching it. We are learning comprimise with the remote... Sounds like a FREAKING GREAT time at the football game. I miss watching my college team... I went to a state school in PA.

Perhaps a case of "I want to plan my wedding before I get the ring, but I also want to have a the super-romantic fairy-tale proposal" or, as it is better know "have my cake and eat it too"

[QUOTE]I honestly could never say to someone "were engaged!" without a ring. I just think it looks like you are a psycho for sure. I don't care that all my coworkers and friends know he exists or not. When I said basics have been discussed I mean when we were setting up our Christmas tree on our anniversary he said "I kind of want to get married in December so we can keep our Christmas anniversary." No major lets book this place or have this food kind of talks. We both love Christmas :) I am pretty sure he has the ring is some where in our house but there is no way I will go looking for it because he would kill me lol People keep saying "I bet he will do it at Christmas" but I don't want to get my hopes up. I kind of had a thought about it for a second on our anniversary at dinner but got that out of my head real quick ;p
