S/O: Wedding Updates

Can we get an update from all the planners of where they are? I have no idea what anyone is working on.

We're slowly getting all of our RSVPs back - about 100 people are coming thus far - woot! I'm predicting we'll end up with around 130 - exactly what I was hoping for!!

We're finalizing our ceremony readings/music/everything this weekend together! Then on to the programs!

Brian got the GM ties on a GREAT deal from a Brooks Brothers outlet! They are yellow with blue stripes. I haven't seen them yet, so that's all I know! But that's done! We also bought the GM shirts and got the cuffs monogrammed.

The BM towels came in and look adorable! I'm going to put them in woven straw bags and add a summery reading book or something else summery. (I ended up going with this one: http://www.landsend.com/pp/FramedBorderBeachTowel~182933_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::TUR&CM_MERCH=IDX_00006_0000000149_0000000644&origin=index)

We finalized our rehearsal luncheon menu: YUMMM!!
    • Country Chicken Salad  with Cranberries & Candied Walnuts
    • Roasted Salmon  with Course Ground Mustard & Caramelized Onion over Spinach
    • Cucumber-Tomato-Fennel Salad with Lemon-Basil Viniagrette
    • Roasted Corn on the Cob with Garlic Drawn Butter
    • Homemade Biscuit
    • Home made Blueberry Cobbler with Whipped Cream
    • House Made Strawberry-Basil Lemonade

    Yummy menu, I'm hungry now.

We met with our priest last night so the ceremony is all set.
    Got GM gifts.
Still need to make table name signs and get a hold of two people who haven't really RSVPd.
Also get water bottles for OOT bags.

I think that's it.  Could it be?

ETA: JK, stilll need to finalize and print 100 programs.

Kat- I love the towels and your menu sounds delicious!

We're going to sign contracts in August, but the coordinator is leaving for a three week vacation on July 22 so all of our information needs to be in before that.  So we've been pretty busy this week, which feels weird.

We picked out our menu so we can sample it when we're there next month.  It's going to be a buffet and for now it will be:
Green salad with avocado rolls, mont. jack cheese, and cilantro vinaigrette
Green salad with caramel nuts and blue cheese vinaigrette
Idaho Potato Puree w/caramel onions or Sweet Potato Puree
    Buttered asparagus w/nutmeg
Chicken with couscous, cranberries, yellow raisins, and guava sauce
Beef Tenderloin w/black pepper crust and bordelaise sauce
Pasta Bar (different pasta, sauce, and topping options)

I'm also supposed to pick out flowers so she can make a sample for us.  I don't know anything about flowers.  So that's not really going anywhere.

We/FI need to make appointments with the photographers, bakers, and musicians we picked out.  And we're still trying to locate a priest who speaks English.

The STD cards I made in Spanish are ready but not printed.  We just got a proof of the boarding pass STDs but they're still not ready yet.

This all just seems so silly because based on everyone's comments over the weekend, I really doubt anyone (except parents and siblings) will be going to our wedding.  I can not wait until the end of the summer.  Even I wanted to think about the wedding, there's really not anything I'll be able to do until we go back next April.  It will be nice.

I'm making escort cards as they come in, and just recently started going through contracts making sure I have the dates for all final payments ready to go.

FI and I also started all of our research into changing my last name and getting me on his insurance, as that needs to happen pronto if we're going to start trying for kids immediately.

I still need to get in touch with our photographers regarding which pictures we want taken, particularly formals, and with our DJ about the songs we've picked for specific events during the reception.

Final hair and makeup trial is July 31, and final dress fitting is Aug. 5.

I need to shop for our honeymoon.  Not necessarily clothes, but bug spray and sunscreen and first aid kit stuff just in case, because I know I won't remember all that stuff at the last minute.  I found a really good list googling "Honeymoon Packing List" so I think I'm just going to hit the stores after work maybe.  Maybe I'll also look into a "Wedding Day Emergency Kit" as well.

I dunno...all my stuff seems like it's little piddly stuff except for the name change paperwork and insurance stuff.

    That food all sounds delicious...mmm....

    I'm too far away but
    We have a budget.  Yay.
    I have a venue and a date.  Sept 4, 2011 *squeeeeeeee*
We have a tentative guest list (mom, FMIL and FI's grandma want to review)
I also decided on colours - red (think almost cherry red) w/ yellows and oranges.  Fall-ish but still bright and sunny.

I want it to be winter so I can go dress shopping.  lol

I've got my dress, he's got his suit.  FI and I are still checking out a few restaurants for the reception dinner.  This means we'll have to eat lots of yummy food this weekend... so sad. Smile Once that's done, there's not much else to do since we're keeping this wedding really low-key and informal.

Hmmm, I'm kind of in a lull as far as wedding planning goes.  We got all of the major stuff finalized during the last couple months.  All the vendors are set and down payments are made.  Our guest list has jumped up 6 couples within the last two weeks making our total at 357 right now. YIKES!   FI and I finished our registries this past weekend, which was fun!  I'm super excited about our bedding that we picked out.  We registered for these sheets and this blanket.  Not gonna lie....I love them!  Other than that its calm!  I'm going to finalize the guests for both showers and get those addresses to the hosts by Friday.

Oh and lets not forget SAVING MONEY! Gosh, hosting a wedding is expensive stuff!  Even with my parents so generously helping us its crazy!  FI and I also combined our bank accounts last month which has taken some/TONS of getting used to....and also makes saving a little difficult.

What I have left: (I think this will be the easiest way to go over this)

    -Meet with Pastor
    -Print programs
    -Make escort cards
    -Make bar menu signs
    -Make dessert table signs
-Baking, Baking, Baking and yet more Baking (followed by lots of chocolate dipping and frosting.)
-Get FI to pick out groomsmen gifts. (I have the gifts all wrapped for my girls.)
    -Make card box
    -Finalize seating chart
-Burn discs of various instrumental music that will play before band starts.
-Stalk the house of the linen supplier until we get our money back because she has ceased all communication with us and is bailing on all brides that have booked her. (ok I am not really going to do this, but I certainly want to, and will eventually take some course of action to get funds returned.)
    -Buy alcohol for rehearsal dinner
-Buy food/snacks for day of pre-ceremony
-Finish dress fittings. (Next appt 7/31)
-Finish gathering pictures for heritage/memory table

    7-18 / 7-24 / 8-7  are the showers. 8/21 is Bachelorette
So far 58 of 201 guests are attending. We have been getting RSVP's in the mail every day. It's fun.

Ana, it sounds like you need another shopping day in the near future ;)

I'm almost finished with designing all the paper goods. I uploaded a bunch of new pics and docs to the wedding profile in my siggie, if anyone wants eye candy. We're not printing until later, but it's nice to have them all designed and ready to go. Given how much DIY we're doing, it's nice to be able to print and put together things over the next few months when I can, versus having to rush it and stress out later on.

We're sending our STDs at the end of the summer, at about eight months out. Early, yes, but about 85% of our guests are OOT and many of them are already asking about hotels and travel. Hopefully this will give everyone some extra time to figure out traveling.

We've got our photographer and our room block lined up. We're still working on the DJ. I can't get a straight answer from my hair stylist whether or not she'll be able to do our hair for the day, so I may have to look into alternatives there. I'm hoping I don't have to - frankly, she's the only person I trust to do my hair, given that it often has a mind of it's own.

We changed up our ceremony decor - we had originally planned on doing cylinder vases with floating petals and candles, but after looking at the ceremony spot, we realized that would leave the space feeling pretty empty. We're going to add some bubble vases with white rose bouquets and hopefully that will fill up the space some more. Bonus - it'll be less than $100 added to the budget.

FILs offered to throw us a rehearsal dinner at our favorite Irish restaurant/pub. The place is gorgeous. We're having our RD with immediate fam and wedding party in the back dining room (semi-private), and then having a "cocktails and catching-up" style GTG in the pub with our OOT guests afterwards.

I found out my FMIL is throwing me a shower over Christmas vacation in Colorado, which will be super fun. Two showers in three weeks, and neither are actually where I live, lol. Oh, and bigger excitement - rickylee's flying with me to OH for one of my showers! Whoo whoo! :)

My parents have decided to get us a china cabinet as our wedding gift (goes with our IKEA dining room table that we just purchased). As soon as it gets back into stock at our local store, I get to go pick it up:

I'm kinda ridiculously excited about it. We have a few glass pieces (namely, some etched fish stemware that I've collected over the years) that I'd really feel better if they were protected in a cabinet versus on shelves where they could get bumped or broken. Plus, I'd like to have our kitchen organized and figured out before we have to start dealing with wedding gifts (and things we plan to pick up ourselves)in a few months.

Completely NWR...I'm buying a new car! Well, technically, I'm buying my mother's lease vehicle off of her, but it's new by my standards. 2007 Mercury Mariner, only about 35K miles on it and in awesome condition. Because they're buying out a lease, and my current car is in pretty decent condition for a buy-back, I'll send up getting it for about $7-9K less than I would buying it straight off the lot.

My gas mileage won't go down that much, I'll have more room for hauling dive gear/dogs/future spawn, and I won't have major maintenance bills for a while. My mother dropped a bomb that she's got like, five Rubbermaid containers full of stuff she's been collecting and saving for me for when I got married that are coming with the car (can I properly express how much I love my mother? lol). Apparently, rickylee knows what's in them, but she won't give anything up. Hoar. ;)

Thanks Kat!  I hope they are.  I've been to a wedding and a brunch there before and the food was really good so I'm hopeful that it will be okay.

Oceana - I love all of your paper goods and the sea life pictures!   The table numbers are awesome and I really like the R.S.V.P. postcards- I love the seahorse on the front.

If I get through all of this stuff in August AND get a job there will definitely be some celebratory shopping!

Don't be too envious - I still actually have to <em>pay</em> for the car. It's still better off than having to fork over more and more dough for repairs/maintenance...my current car is getting to an age where the maintenance is getting more costly by the day.

As for the goodies, I have no idea what they are. Zero idea. I don't know what the hell she's been accumulating for the last 3-4 years, but imagine there are a lot of fish involved. lol

    -seating chart to finalize
    -mani/pedi appts to make

Totally doable in NINE days! Whoo hooo!!!!
