Post-Op Report (and working list of helpful chores for BF!)

Ladies, all your good vibes worked!!  Thank you, thank you!!  Surgery went well.  I was completely knocked out, felt nothing, and didn't even have any stomach issues from the anesthesia.  Yay!!

So, that's my good news.  The bad news is that the nerve was indeed 100% severed and the tendon was 80% severed.  Doc said he was able to reposition the nerves really well and over the next few months I should start to regain feeling.  The tendon though . . . was a bit of a surprise.  I have a splint on for the next 2 weeks and will need physical therapy for the next 6 weeks.  So, no flying until maybe end of August/beginning of September.  Still going on vacation to Lake Powell with BF & the fam so that's good.  And, it looks like work is trying to come through with some non-flying duties for me to do so I can still work/get paid while I'm healing.

Anyway, little bit of good news, little bit of bad, but in the end I should be healed up soon and am going to have some extra time at home with the BF (where he can continue to help me wash my hair until I can use my hand again!!).

Ooooo - I just came up with an idea.  What are all the things I can ask BF to help out with and "use" my injury to my advantage, at least for a few days, for fun.  Let's list!!

To start:
previously mentioned washing of hair
pooper-scooping Hogan's 'gifts' in the backyard
hand-washing dishes

Other's?

Glad it went well, Meg. Scary stuff.

Is there anything project-wise you've been wanting to get done, like painting a small room? Smile

Do you have short-term disability insurance?  I know many employers offer it (I have it).  You may want to check.  That way, you will still get paid while you're recovering.

I'm glad the surgery went well and hope you get everything back to where it was before the accident!

Ah, some really great ideas here!!  I was super humbled this morning trying to put my hair in a ponytail and tie my shoes to go for a run.  I'm home by myself so no BF to help out just yet.  Anyway, he called from his lessons to check on me right when I was getting really frustrated with it all.  He's so great - just told me I need to depend on him and the family to help.  He understands how hard that is for me since I'm so independent.  I guess maybe that's a good lesson for me to learn!!

SKP82 - no short term disability for me.  Because I'm an Air Force Reservist, I only get paid when I work (meaning there;s no regular salary).  Normally that's pretty much full time - at least 20 pay days a month.  Right now though, it'll just be less than that.  I planned to be on vacation next week anyway and I have money in savings for just this type of situation so I should be good.  It'll be great if work can come through with some non-flying duties though - won't have to dip into that savings!!
