Wedding in December...?

Originally, I was going to have a spring wedding because, well, it's more "traditional."  Now, I decided that since I love the cold, I love winter and I love December, that this would be the perfect month for a wedding.  My only issue is that I really want color at my wedding and all winter weddings I've seen have either been greens and reds or ice blue and white.  I would really love pink, yellow, orange, green and blue but I realize this may be a little too out of season.  Would pink, green and cream work during this time of year?

Re: Wedding in December...?

  • Keep it in pastels! That way you can accompany the white, wintry aspect. Here in TX, we have a Christmas decorating warehouse and the number of different color schemes for winter this place has is ridiculous. We got soooo many ideas for my sister's winter wedding there! I say find a Christmas shop and check out how to work the colors you love into a winter theme :)

Really hard. But I wanna do that because I want you

  • I don't see why you can't use bright colors for a winter wedding.   There's no rule that your colors have to match the season.

  • If you use more "jewel tone" versions of those colors, I think you'll make it wintry while still having color!

Winter weddings are always so gorgeous, any pictures I've seen of them are beautiful.

You can choose whatever colors you want.  They don't have to match the season you're getting married in.   Just because you're getting married in winter, doesn't mean you NEED to have a "winter wedding" theme.

  • Agreed. Do what you want, but jewel tones do sound beautiful.

This.  Have the colors you want, not the colors you think you should have because of the season.

  • Ditto cynthia & jemmini!

  • I don't see why not.  I went to a beautiful wedding last weekend that was navy, fucshia and bright white.
  • You can choose whatever colors you want. I had bright colors for an October wedding. But keep in mind that if the flower colors or types you want are out of season you will be paying extra for them to be shipped from somewhere where they are in season. Your florist should be able to advise you on approximate cost.
  • I just got married last week and our colours were gold and lavender.   You can do whatever your heart desires for your colour scheme.  There is also a Winter Weddings board under Wedding Theme Boards in the left hand menu.

  • Dh and I got married in December. Our colors were the palest of pink, creams, and a bronzy brown. I don't think of colors as seasonal.
  • Thank you all for your help!  I think I'm going to stick with the range of colors that I really love :)
  • Your colors can be anything you want them to be.  Blue and white, and pastels are the usual, but that doesn't mean you can't have your favorite colors instead.  Thats like saying a fall wedding has to be red, orange, yellow, etc.
  • You love the cold, you love winter, and you love December, so you have decided to use those.  You also love the colors of pink, yellow, orange, green and blue.  Go ahead and use them too.  It's YOUR wedding.  Have it YOUR way!
