Not Engaged Yet

My cat is being an jerk.

I recently moved into a new apartment, and I went and brought my cat over here yesterday. She adjusted and got comfortable yesterday.

Last night she was being protective. She made a perimeter around my bed and walked around growling at things. It was nice and cute of her.

Today, she is an asshole. She keeps jumping on the counter over and over again, even though she knows she is not allowed to. And whenever I tell me no, she just sasses me by meowing back and doing it anyway.

She's not allowed in the guest room, because the bed in there has a place where she can go under it where I can't get her and I don't want her to poop under there (she has a litter box problem, but she's done well with that since we moved). She wants in there SO BAD. She just sits there wailing at the door and rolling around it trying to get her paws under it.

She jumped on the counter three.... make that four times... since I started typing this.

My cat is a jerk.

This worked for me.  I put some duct tape on the counter sticky side up.  I do those rolls (I don't know what else to call it) where you can stick one side to the counter and the other side is sticky too (I hope you can understand that because I barely can and I wrote it).

When my cat jumped up and her paws get stuck she hated it.  She doesn't jump up on the tables or counters anymore!

It took our dog about a month to really adjust to the new house. It'll get better, it just may take a while. Try your best to be patient, I know it's hard when your pet is not being themselves and forgetting everything they were ever taught.

She is the tops! :D She is the cutest. Observe:

She's actually being really good now. I ate some breakfast and she jumped up there and sat for a second, then realized she didn't want to be that high up so she got down on her own. Now she isn't even going in the kitchen. She's chillin' on the floor with her fat belly on display. Maybe she just needed to explore it in order to get more comfortable.

I'm definitely going to need a spray bottle though.. I've never used one with her.

Aww she's just adjusting to a new place.  Poor kitty.  I don't have any advice other than to play with her and hopefully she'll start to feel comfortable and safe.  Also my cat LOVES to climb under our bed into the boxspring and take a nap.

Sounds like she just needed to adjust.  Our new cat was being annoying this morning.  She has gotten an idea now of when my alarm goes off for work so she comes in our bed because we pet her.  Well, this morning she was about an hour early.  Ugh....

[QUOTE]:3  Awwww. Kenzie would like to be facebook friends.  Too bad she can't type.  :) Kenzie stayed at my parents house while we were out of town and she had to explore EVERYTHING when she got home.  Maybe she's "creating her map" but whatever the case, you're the boss and the spray gun or spray bottle will reinforce that!

Puppy likes to tap the screen on my iphone. Yesterday she was deleting bad pictures of herself. (Note: Yes, we got her yesterday and decided on calling her Riley. I don't have pics here so I will AW when I get home or sometime this weekend)

I agree with others who say your cat just needs to adjust.  If your cat knew the rules at your other place, she'll learn the rules at your new one too.

Of course, my cats know the rules, but they just flagrantly violate them left and right.  Let's just say there's a reason I have several squirt bottles stashed at various places around the house.  It's a good thing those little guys are so darn cute!  Though they do their share of play fighting.  *cough*  I don't spray 'em for that... but for getting on the turtle tank, on the counters, scratching under doors, getting on the table, etc.  Trouble and Mischief, here's to a well-named pair of kitties!

    I want a kitty =(

FI wants to get me a kitten for Hannukah or my birthday, but I've been resisting. I don't know why. But I just realized about 2 days ago that the combination of me being unemployed, living an hour away from my mom and dogs, and FI working 40+ hours a week leaves me very lonely. Then I thought, "Well maybe we should get a cat, that way I'm not alone! I'll have someone to cuddle with!" Then I realized that makes me sound like a crazy cat lady and quashed these thoughts with furiously writing my NaNo novel.

But now cute kitty posts like this make me want one again. Dammit.

Your cat makes me laugh, Narwhal.  She amuses me to no end - probably becuase everytime you tell me about her, she's harassing you.  Get a good spray bottle and eventually she'll just see it and stop whatever she's doing.  Until then good luck;)

My cat hates when doors are closed.  He jumps up and gets the doorknobs and makes obnoxious noises until they are opened.  Or he lays on the floor and sticks his arms all the way through the space between the door and the floor.  Sometimes cats are total bitches, haha!
