Not Engaged Yet

Getting to know meee!

Hi, I'm new. Obviously.

Screen Name: lovelyheather
Age: 26
Significant Other's Age: 26
What You Do: I work in Library Technical Services
What SO Does: Car seat prototyping and testing (the seats that are in cars, not car seats for babies)
State of Relationship: Dating
How Long You've Been Together: 6 years (7 in June)
How You Met: Falling down in the hall.

Full story: We lived in the same dorm our freshman year of college. I had just met some of his roommates and a group of us were hanging out in the hall. We all went to head into their dorm. We were the last two people in the hall. He had been leaning against the wall, with one leg bent, and had his finger stuck through the loop on the back of the shoe (I hope that makes sense). Well, he went to put his foot down, but his hand was stuck and he fell. We shared an awkward moment of silence and then I laughed, hard. He was my best friend that year and we started dating a year later.

Wedding Date (if you're engaged/married): n/a*
Real Babies: none + no plans to ever have kids
Adorable pets: 2 kitty cats, Mitten and Mouse
Loves: Running, baking fancy desserts, girly things (makeup + nail polish), atv-ing, snowmobiling, books
Hates: The term fur babies. I always think of babies that are covered in fur. It makes my skin crawl. The smell of vinegar. Bad traffic.
Pet Peeves: throat sounds (coughing, sneezing, nose blowing, snoring, throat clearing, etc).
Hobbies/Activities: Running, working, reading
Favorite Thing About Your SO: we laugh at the same lame jokes
Least Favorite Thing About Your SO: stubborn
Describe Your Personality: A weird mix of dorky and girly
Snark Level (1 [low snark] - 10 [high snark]): maybe a 5?
I've Been On TK Since: I started lurking ages ago but created a new account today
How You Came to Be On TK: checking stuff out during my sister's wedding + being a bit BSC. Lurking taught me to enjoy my relationship in its present state instead of focusing on the future. I'm so happy I lurked!
How I like my potatoes: baked or mashed
Favorite book/author: Harry Potter! I mostly read fiction, non fiction usually bores me. Within fiction, I mostly read fantasy.
Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: I'm a vegetarian.

Well, I guess that is me. Any questions?

*about the wedding date: I had to enter a wedding date when I signed up and it won't let me remove the date (I just used my b-day + the furthest away year allowed). Is there a way to remove this?

I'm so happy you lurked too and I wish more people did!! Welcome to NEY!
    A couple questions -
What's your cocktail? Beer, wine, something mixed?
I noticed you said you didn't ever want kids. This is pretty personal but I'm intrigued - why not? I'm just always curious about peoples decisions to or to not have them.

Rock on! I got on here very much the same way. Lurking saves lives - or at least reputations.

What books do you like? Any dessert recommendations (I love fancy desserts!)?

Yeah it looks like the crazies really came out over the weekend.

I'll PIP the kitties later, I don't have pictures at work.

Yep, I watch tv :) Usually HIMYM and The Big Bang Theory. Oh and New Girl, too.

Our last vacation was to Florida and Harry Potter world. Most of my family lives in Florida so we, unfortunately, head down there quite often. We'll be going again in September for my neice's 1st birthday, but I'd rather be traveling some place new. But any vacation is better than none!

    Hahahahaa!!!
  • @danser

Yay veggies! I love to make stir fry with tofu marinated in soy sauce/garlic/lime stuff. I have the full recipe at home. My aunt makes an amazing butternut squash soup.

    @flygirlmeg

Drinks: I have favorites in every category. Does that make me a lush?
red wine: pinot noir or cabernet sauvignon
    white wine: reisling
beer: Hoegaarden, Stella Artois, any wheat beer
    mixed: lemondade + vodka

Kids: I just have never wanted kids. I don't really see the appeal. When everyone is ohhing and ahhing over babies ... I just don't get it. I think this make me really selfish, but there are so many things in my life that I want to do and having kids just doesn't tie into it. If you have more questions, just ask. I feel like it is hard to explain with out rambling on and on.

I don't think this makes you selfish at all. I think people should only have kids if they really want them and can care for them. I don't want children, either. I'd much rather have pets.

    Welcome!

It is always nice to meet another child free person! This makes me like you even more.

Fave poster: Most posters seem pretty nice. I like Stina since she is funny and a runner and, if I remember correctly, also doesn't want children. Bethsmiles has a Tangled avatar; it's hard not to like that!

I do not have any tattoos. I am allergic to food dyes and I'm nervous that I would also be allergic to the tattoo ink. That just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

My favorite dessert to bake is cupcakes. I love decorating them.

    @Caraline

I like the following books: Harry Potter series, The Hunger Games, His Dark Materials Trilogy, A Discovery of Witches (rereading right now, the second book in the series comes out this summer)

I recommed the following desserts: Cookies and Cream cupcakes, Hot Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookies, and Pumpkin Cheesecake. Those are all clickies. Basically any recipe from Bakerella, The Pioneer Woman or Smitten Kitchen is worth trying!

Hello sane person! I second the request for cat pictures.
I love the story about meeting you SO, I'm so clumsy and I love to hear about clumsiness leading to somewhat of a meet-cute.

What was the last movie you saw in theaters?
I'm all about lame jokes, have any good ones?

My favorite thing about WWoHP is the frozen butterbeer. So delish. Plus I love that all of the staff members are in character. It really makes the experience thorough. You can also hear Moaning Myrtle in the restrooms! The attention to detail that went into making the park is outstanding. I can't wait until they expand the park!

I am not too picky about movies, but I hate scary movies. And by scary movies I mean anything that is a scary as CSI. I get nightmares really easily. I am a wuss. My favorite movie is Star Wars (original trilogy, of course).

Warning: I read a lot. I have recently read: Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell. I am currently reading: A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. My next book to read is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. I am also working through A Song of Ice and Fire for the second time. I've read the first 4 books in the series, but I've decided to reread them before moving on to the 5th book.

For white wines, I usually try to buy something from Michigan. I think Chateau Grand Traverse is my usual.

I am new to drinking red wines, so I haven't tried a lot of different brands. So far, I've really enjoyed Cupcake vineyards Pinot Noir. And their Red Velvet is good as well. It was their name that lured me in.

The last movie I saw in theaters was The Hunger Games.

I guess we don't really tell lame jokes, so much as quote a lot of random tv shows/movies. I usually try to work the quote into our regular conversation and see if he picks up on the fact that I am quoting something. He always gets it. Everyone else just wonders what we are talking about.

This is me exactly and my FI also doesn't want to have kids. We have discussed this several times before we got engaged. My mom gets it, his parents don't. My best friend said "what is the point of getting married if you aren't having kids, it's just a piece of paper then". That really got to me.

Im DYING to go to the WWoHP. and to drink butterbeer! I looked at a ton of recipes online to make it at home but I never could decide on one. They were all extremely different (like totally different ingredients.) It stressed me out so I just gave up lol
