Travelling?

I can see that just about everybody on here likes to talk about travel plans, and I know a lot of people have just gotten back from trips or will be going on one soon!
But I'm curious to here about the travelling experiences you have! If you've been to a whole lot of places just list some of your favourites.

For me, (remember that I live in Canada so even going to the US is exciting):
-many family trips to Florida
-school trip to Washington, D.C. where we drove through NY, Virginia, Maryland and stayed in Pennsylvania for a bit
-I live in Ontario, Canada but I've down a few road trips out East to Prince Edward Island, staying in Quebec and New Brunswick
-I've also flown out West to British Columbia and Alberta
-School trip to Europe where we stayed in Paris and Nice (France), then drove to Eze (France), San Remo, Pisa, Florence (Italy) and Monaco. We then flew to Rome (Italy)

And I just put in my application this week for a volunteer program with my school. Students are selected to go to various locations and help out with volunteer work there basically. So I applied to: the Dominican Republic, Peru, New Orleans, Costa Rica and Nicaragua (preferences in that order). Now just to play the waiting game..

I've never been out of the country. But one of my favorite places in the US is Kentucky in the summer...My great aunt lives in the country and it is beautiful down there. All you hear are cows mooing and the occasional car pass. Time practically stops when I'm out there, the warm summer air just...ahh!! I want to go to Kentucky!

I've been to New York City, Orlando, Florida, Nevada, San Antonio, TX, Minnesota, Missouri and I'm not really a fan of any of those places...I'm kinda picky when it comes to location, but there are still so many places that I want to visit. But all I know is that I like the country...I'm from a fairly large city and I don't like it all that much. I'm so in love with the country and BF is from the country. (I think it was meant to be!)

Oh..I live around 40 minutes away from Chicago, but I love it!

    Yay traveling!!! Love it.

    Some of my favorites:
    - For over 10 years we went to Florida every year to visit my grandparents (who were snowbirds for about 20 years).  It was soooo much fun.  We only flew once.  The rest of the trips were a drive thru NS to NB then down along the Eastern US.  It was epically fun!

    - Boston.  I love it.

    - New York City - we went on a class trip my last year of high school.  We stayed in Manhattan and I spent most of my time on Broadway.  I got to see 4 shows! wo0t!!

    - Been all over NS, PEI, NB and NFLD.  Been to Toronto a few times as well.  Nice place, not somewhere I'd want to live.

    - Pun ta Cana, Dominican Republic.  We went on a family vacation here right after my grandfather passed away.  It was really nice to be together with my family right after that.  Oh and it was fun;)

    - CUBA! ZOMG! Best trip EVAR.  We love it so much that we're going back for our honeymoon.  I cannot wait!!

Those sound like some great places to visit Bren.  I'd love to go to Europe!

    Some favorites of mine:
Myrtle Beach, S.C (went Oct. of last year, so pretty and peaceful)
Isle of Palms, S.C (Went this past Aug.  had a blast with family)
Las Vegas, NV (Went for my friend's 21st B-day, can't wait to go back one day!)
Orlando, FL (DISNEY WORLD!  LOVE LOVE LOVE! )

I have so many places I want to go it's not even funny.  I've never been out of the country but I don't know how I'd do flying.  I went stir crazy on the 5 hr flight to Vegas!

Without a doubt the coolest trip I have ever taken was to Russia.  I was studying abroad in Northern Sweden (like 15 kilometers south of the arctic circle!) and we took a foreign exchange trip to St. Petersburg.

We took a bus trip to Stockholm and then put the bus on an overnight ferry to Helsinki, Finland, then we drove over to St. Petersburg.  It was so wicked cool.  The school made sure we all were able to cross the border (had a few close calls and a couple cameras taken away).  We got to stay at one of the nicest hotels in the city for safety reasons.  They took us to a Russian folk show in a palace where we had champagne and caviar.

They took us on a bus tour of the city and then we got to find our own way home.  Figuring out their ridic subway system was beyond cool.  Barely anything in English and because St. Petersburg is on a delta (with over 350 bridges in the city) the subway system has to be below ALL of the rivers.  So its like a 15 minute escalator ride down.

We also saw Romeo and Juliet at the Russian Ballet...so amazing.  On top of that we partied at some crazy four story clubs and got propositioned by hookers in our hotel lobby.  Overall, the coolest trip I have ever taken.

OH, and in the last 5 minutes before our bus left for home, I remembered that I needed to buy some Russian vodka as a souvenir.  So I ran into a little corner store and picked the cheapest vodka in the prettiest bottle.  I paid 5 euros for a gorgeous bottle!  Anyway, a week later we cracked it open and started mixing drinks...and it tasted like water!  My friends an I were so mad that I got jipped on the vodka until about 10 minutes later when it hard core kicked in.  Like, strongest alcohol ever.  Definitely best 5 euro I've ever spent!

Aperitisa that's AMAZING! I have a cousin who went to Russia on a mission's trip and worked in orphanages mainly, but his pictures were amazing. Such a beautiful country. It doesn't seem to be very common around here to travel to though.

Kel - I'm glad I went to Europe at a younger age, but I found a lot of it overrated. Mainly Paris, France. I liked the smaller towns better. Rome was pretty cool though, just walking around and seeing all the ruins in the city.

Every other year when I was growing up, we'd drive to OK to visit my grandparents - we'd make it a 3 day trip there and stay a couple weeks and 3 days back and did all kinds of side trips on the drives there and back - so many great memories.

The years we didn't go back to OK, we'd stay "close to home" and usually go to southern CA for a few days.

Went to Hawaii when I was 4 (my uncle was in the Navy and was stationed there, so we got free room and board while we were there).

When I was 14, I went on a student tour group (30 students and 6 adults) to Europe.  We landed in Munich (went to Dachau), then spent 3 days in Austria, headed to Venice for a night and then boarded the Romanza (a former Hitler hospital ship that was converted to a cruise ship - this is why I really have no desire to take a cruise) and cruised around the Greek Islands, etc (saw Athens, Mykonos, Crete, Knossos, Turkey and Yugoslavia and went through the Corinth Canal), then headed to Florence for 3 days and onto Switzerland for 3 days, Paris for 3 days then took the hovercraft to London for 3 days and flew back home - we landed back in Vegas at 9pm or so on the 4th of July - welcomed by fireworks - absolutely the perfect ending to our trip.

My parents hate beaches and are more mountains people so that shaped my childhood travels. (I didn't see a beach until I was 18!) We did tons of National Parks- Shenandoah, Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Mammoth Cave.

The highlight of my recent travels has been a southern Caribbean cruise with bf. A-ma-zing!! I think I'm rebelling against my lack of beach travels as a kid :)

I'm extremely excited for Christmas vacation...traveling with bf to Singapore then some of the islands in Thailand.

My favorite trip was my junior year of high school. Spring break. I went to Florida with all of my best friends. It was an awesome week! I loved every minute of it :D

My family used to go visit my grandparents in Virginia every summer and every other Christmas. But I've never been that close to my family so I don't have that many fond memories of those trips. They were fun but I'm not nostalgic about it.

I have a lot of places I want to go in the future. I don't know if I will get to see all of them but it would be nice to see a few.

Yay, Russia :-) I was there this summer, during the huge wildfires. I hope to go back and see Moscow in normal conditions. After one full day of sight seeing in the smoke, I spent the rest of the night in the hotel throwing up.  I didn't get to see St. Petersburg either, so I definitely need to go back.

On that same trip, I also visited Mongolia... so amazing! Only 2 million-ish people live there, and it's a huge country. You can go for miles without seeing anything but the landscape. I passed through on the train, stopping in the capital for a few nights, with a day trip to one of the nearby national parks. I really want to go back and spend some time there, so I can see more of the country. I'm planning/hoping to do some international volunteer work next year. I've been looking at a number of programs in Africa. but after this trip I am also looking into opportunities in Mongolia. (We'll see...)

I never did any travelling when I was younger because my family had no interest. So I'm kind of embarrassed about my travel experience (keep in mind that when I graduate and get an actual job and money, BF and I are travelling anywhere):

    -NYC (duh, I'm from there)
    -NJ
    -Atlantic City (NJ)
    -Pennsylvania
    -Delaware
    -Washington, DC
-Going to Bermuda in May (see my ticker!)

So yeah, I pretty much want to go everywhere.

I have done quite a bit of traveling.
-several states, some of my favorite memories being in Oregon, Texas, Hawaii, Washington, Pennsylvania, D.C., North Carolinian, New York(A beautiful wedding on the lake), and Virginia.  Of course I live in California so that doesn't really count.
-Canada.  I was in Ottawa.  Not super impressed with the city, but I didn't know anyone and just got to wonder around Ottawa and marvel at how expensive everything was. LOL!
-England!  I LOVED England.  Bath is most likely one of the most awesome towns ever!!!  London was pretty awesome too.  I love the Underground!  I don't live in a city so that was pretty awesome getting up and riding it in to town every day.  Also Baker street was my main stop :) (For you Sherlock Holms fans out there!)
-France.  Paris was lovely, but sadly would have been much better with my BF there.  As it was I got hit on at the Eiffel tower by some cute Frenchies :)  But Paris was not my favorite city.  The Louvre was pretty awesome though.  I really like the rural parts of France. Versailles was so beautiful!  Mulhouse and the other rural areas around there are lovely.  Old WWI trenches were a blast in the past.
-Switzerland.  The Alps are so amazing.  If I could have my dream wedding I would have it in the base of the Alps in one of those little sunlit meadows. (sigh) Zurich is kind of dirty.  But a lot of the towns around the Alps are so beautiful and quaint.
-Austria.  Lovely.  Didn't spend much time there, just drove through.
-Italy. Never been down to Rome but northern is okay.  I love the Dolomites.  (okay so I love all mountains!)  Venice was so romantic.  Bridge of Sights and St. Marks square was so cool to see!
-Scotland.  Highlands are amazing.  I climbed to a legend of King Arthur spot.  I think a place where his horse struck a rock.  Beautiful view with cool castles!
-Ireland.  I love the country side.  You feel utterly alone with God.  It is a cool feeling.  Dublin was a nice city though.
-Germany. I lived here for 4 1/2 months.  I LOVE the Black Forest.  So amazing and beautiful!  Berlin was very nice too.  Lots of history you could see.  A good reminder. Freiburg is so cool with its cobbled streets.  :)  I love Germany.  Ich habe liebe fur deutchland.  :)

I love to travel.  I am think I need to go to South America next.  Costa Rica maybe?

Raven - Versailles IS really beautiful. I think you would have liked Eze. Also, don't judge Canada based on Ottawa! (No offense, Breezer) Canada is a HUGE country that is vastly different depending on where you are. If you like rural areas, you'd love the mountains (since you mentioned the Alps)/the maritimes I bet.

Don't feel bad.  My family vacations growing up consisted of a week-long camping trip every summer to the same campground about 2 hours away.  I didn't go on a plane till I was 18 (my 24 yo sister has still never flown).  I didn't go east of AZ until I was 20 (I drove to NJ with my roommate, then flew home).  It wasn't until I met FI that I've done any real traveling.  So far, we've been to Hawaii twice and Puerto Rico.  I love that we share a love of traveling, so I'm looking forward to all the places that we'll get to go in the future.

I absolutely adore Glacier and Arches National Parks. Bryce and Zion canyons are also incredible.

I used to love to go to Stratford, Ontario and see like 6 plays in 3 days and have tea at Harry Ten Shillings.

I've been to Italy, Florence and Rome, which inspired a love of art history. I'd love to go back with the knowledge gained from several classes, and just sit and stare. And eat pizza and gelatto, of course. :)

I've also been to Japan, and that got me interested in Buddhism. So a return trip to some of the temples would be much more meaningful the second time around. I'd alos love to see my host family again some day.

Kauai was the perfect honeymoon spot. My H and I are planning for a return trip sometime before we start popping out the kiddos. :)

And of course, who doesn't love NYC in the fall?!

Still on my list are: England, Ireland, Egypt, Greece, India, San Fran, Seattle, Boston

Desert, I loooooove going to Stratford for the plays! I just went twice in the summer actually. I could live off of theatre, I prefer it over movies. Did you ever have dinner there? They've got a really nice restaurant in an old church, so the atmosphere is incredible.
