I never realized

How much I use my left hand until it hurts.  Every few month, my left wrist acts up and kills me.  It really only hurts when I put pressure on it or when I need to grip something.  I'm in the process of updating our file labels for the new year and trying to grab the folders hurts every single time.  It's so frustrating.

It's almost like that saying, 'you don't know what you had until it's gone' just like you don't realize how much you use something until you can't anymore.

Anyone else have anything like that happen recently?

I have an eye issue at the moment and I've been to the eye doctor 4 times and no one knows what's wrong. It's my left eye. I can't see colors. I can't see clearly (everything is in doubles), and I can't read up close anymore.  My right eye is perfectly fine.

I never realized how grateful I should have been for my vision until it's gone.

I have a lot of pain in my wrists, like what you are describing but I have broken both of them in the past and was told they will never fully heal.  What helps mine is to wear braces or an ace bandage for a few days when I know I will be doing a lot.

My big toe. It being broken has hampered soooo many things. I usually walk to work. Now I have to bum rides from my parents again. Also, gross TMI, but the toenail fell off last week and I never realized how much a toenail did. I keep bumping the toe on everything and it hurts even more without the toenail. Who knew a toenail did so much?

Hearing.  I never knew how annoying it would be to have hearing problems until I had a terrible cold before our trip to Europe.  When I got off the first flight, my ears popped just fine.  But when I got off the second flight, no such luck.  I was partially deaf for a whole day - BF had to shout and repeat himself so many times.  The whole experience drove me up a wall!  I was SO GRATEFUL when my ears finally popped!

This is what I normally do, I just didn't bring my ace bandage to work.  I also broke my left wrist as a child.  I'm not sure if this is what contributed to my random pain though because my mom and sister have the same thing happen to them and they've never broken any bones.  Oh well, it's not so bad that I would go to a doctor, but it's enough to make simple tasks slightly painful.

My sister also does this.  I might try the ace bandage method.

I kind of had the same left hand experience... I recently got a shot in my left arm and it was so sore that I couldn't sleep on my left side or raise my arm above my head to do things like wash my hair.

Jem, do you spend a lot of time at a computer? A friend of mine had a problem and decided that her desk layout was not ergonomic and was causing problems thoughout her arm. She got a keyboard tray and an ergo evaluation and it helped.

I have problems with my right wrist, so I have a special keyboard, keyboard tray, and a special ergo mouse that all help. The mouse is probably the most helpful.

I had another coworker with a really similar sounding problem. I think it was something wrong with her tendons. The doctors gave her anti-inflammatory medicine and going to a chiropracter helped her, too.

Yes, I work at a desk, funny enough for a company that sells ergonomic office furniture.    A keyboard tray won't work for me because I have a corner worksurface piece.   I also don't like how low the tray sits anyways because I sit cross-legged in my chair (weird, I know) and I couldn't work efficiently that way.  I did buy myself (on the company cc of course) an ergo keyboard and mouse though.  However, I don't think this is the route of my problems, I've had this happen long before I was at a full-time desk job.  It normally passes pretty quickly though, so I just ride it out when it happens.

Ahh, okay. I only ask about the tray because my shoulder really starts to bother me if my keyboard or mouse is too high. That can then affect my entire arm.

I also sit cross-legged sometimes. I just need my tray high enough and chair low enough for my legs to fit.  =)

My knee's suck. They were bad when I played volleyball in Middle School, got worse because of Marching Band/ROTC in High School and now I am 23 and probably going to need a knee replacement by the time Im 30. They pop like gunshots sometimes and it is amusing to see people around me freak out but that is really the only fun thing I get from my knees anymore.

Side view mirrors... I had to drive without mine once and you really never realize how much you use it until it's not there!

and hearing... when I get sick my ears clog up and I can't hear anything... it's sooo frustrating! but then when I get my hearing back, I miss the silence of not being able to hear all the jerks around me! lol

I've got chronic tendonitis in several joints in my body, including my wrists.  It comes and goes with me and the weather can cause pain to come on as well (not just an old wives tale...I can usually predict storms coming between my wrists, shoulders, elbow, knees and ankles).

I love aspercreme (the store brands work just as well) - it's odor-less and after the 1st minute or so, grease-less.  It works really well for me (and you don't need to put a lot on).  I also found a wrap around wrist brace (I found one at Walmart) - it has a loop that slips on over my wrist first, then it has a velcro closure - it's only about 2-3 inches wide, but gives a lot of support/comfort and is so much easier to use than trying to wrap an ace bandage around your own wrist.
