7 year old girls tea party ideas

Does anyone have any ideas for a 7 year old tea party? It's my little sister's birthday next week and she wants a little tea party themed one, and so my mom and I are pulling it together.

So far we have.....
Food:
     Little mini finger sandwiches
     Mini cupcakes

Decorations:
A little vase of flowers in front of every girl (for them to take home), pink flowers all over the room, pink streamers, old fashioned looking tea pots and tea cups (one tea cup for every girl to bring home)...

Games:
A scavenger hunt. At the end they'll find their tea cups and other little prizes to bring home.
    A pinata of course.

Anyways, does anyone have any cute little-girl-friendly recipes for a tea party? Any game ideas? Any more awesome decoration ideas?

You ladies are always sooo creative.

All of these are links, so just click on them to see what I found:

A pink and grey tea party inspiration blog post?

    Mary Poppins tea party?

    A butterfly tea?

    Alice in Wonderland?

    A princess tea party?

Haha you can tell that I like reading planning blogs.

At the camp I work at, we buy big floppy hats and feather boas and big gawdy rings for the kids to wear during the tea party. We also tell all the kids to bring a teddy bear (or favorite stuffed animal, or if the kids have them, we've also done American Dolls), so they can have tea with their "guest". We also just make regular cake and cut it into really small pieces. A lot of kids don't like tea, so you could offer hot chocolate and all different toppings? Like whipped cream, a cherry, chocolate shavings (the kids LOVE the chocolate shavings. Buy a hershey bar and use a cheese grater on it), and chocolate syrup. You could also have awards at the end, for silly things like best teddy bear, best drink conconction, best outfit, most polite... Just make sure all the kids have an award at the end (you could come up with categories before the party and fill in the names during the party).

I feel like a piñata doesn't really fit the tea party theme

You could also serve different flavours of iced tea, like raspberry, peach, etc.

Maybe some kind of arts & crafts thing? Maybe white vases for the flowers and then they can paint them?

I remember going to a tea party when I was little and the host gave us big floppy hats and boas to wear.

Food ideas, veggies and dip, fruit, petit fours, hot cocoa or iced tea (like pps mentioned, kids don't really like tea).

I was invited to my first tea party when I was seven, there was this girl in our church who was probably in high school who was an older sister type to all of us, we pretty much worshipped her because she made us feel like adults. I have to say, what you have sounds awesome, but I would nix the pinata (unless your sister really likes them) and do things that make them feel "grown up." If you could find cheapy little white gloves at a party store or dollar store or something that would be a fantastic favor.

As far as food goes, I can mostly think of sweet things, but little anything is awesome. Petit-fours look awesome, cookies or some sort of bread (banana, cranberry, whatever). And I love the iced tea idea, so they feel like they're getting tea, but real tea is too bitter for little kids.

Thanks so much everyone!!!! Such good ideas everyone!

sister2groom: my little sister REALLY wants a pinata. haha, so no taking that away or there would be a big issue...

And Bren, wow, those blogs are pretty intense tea parties! Thanks!

You might even be able to find a pinata that looks like a teacup - they have them in every shape and size now, it seems like.

When I think of little girls tea parties, I think of them dressed up in mom's clothes and acting very grown up; maybe play some "old fashioned" type music in the background. Crackers and cheese (thinking lunchable type things) would be good munchies as well. Crystal light (and the house brands) have some really good iced tea flavors (and you cut out the sugar, too), so they could try one or all of them even (I know I've had lemon, peach and raspberry flavored).

    Have fun!

I always wanted a tea party!
make normal sandwiches (pb&j, turkey & cheddar) and use cookie cutters on them so you have little heart and star shaped sandwiches. it's the best I could come up with.

LOL not if you make it right! I don't know what kind of tea you drank growing up, but I was always a tea drinker. It was never "bitter" for me!

There are a ton of great flavored teas out there. Bigelow makes sweet flavors like blueberry, vanilla caramel, cherry, pomegranate, orange. Now, my favorite tea, Russian Gunpowder, that's too bitter!

How about painting mugs as an activity? You can get plain white mugs and pottery paints at craft stores. I think to set them, they just need to be put in the oven. Here's an example: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4438279

As for food, how about some sliced fruit and scones and mini muffins? Also a cake in the shape of a teacup? http://www.parents.com/fun/birthdays/themes/tea-time-birthday-party/?page=2

When I was little, the only way I'd behave in a restaurant was if I had tea. I though it made me a grown up I guess lol. Everyone took my ideas! I was going to say if you don't mind the mess, paint vases.

I vote sand art. That stuff is amazing even if it's not tea party related.

Good ideas! Thanks again! We're using quite a few of your ideas. I'll PIP after the party next weekend.
