Wedding Pet Peeves

Just a fun topic of conversation, by no means meant to insult or offend. What are some wedding styles, traditions, etc. that just rub you the wrong way? Not even necessarily considered "tacky," or against etiquette. I'll start:

Gloves. I HATE the way long, white, satin gloves look on a bride. It makes me think of an old 19th century wedding and just bothers me.

Now you go.

I *personally* and can't stress that word enough - don't enjoy formal weddings. I've attended several where I felt like I should be meeting royalty and have a minimum salary just to attend..just not my style.

It drives me crazy when/if the officiant says "I now pronounce you man and wife.". I don't get why the groom is still just "man" and not "husband." I read a lot into some things, I know, but there's a lot at weddings that drives my feminist side insane.

I hate tossing the bouquet.  I think it's chintzy and stupid.  And then it's a recipe for disaster in high heels with alcohol and competitive girls. OH, and way to call out all the girls who aren't married.  It just looks really low class, to me.  Same with the garter toss.

Another pet peeve:  I hate it when the couple is introduced as Mr. and Mrs. John Last Name.  Same kind of thing as man and wife with me, but worse!  (For that reason, I can't ever imagine myself addressing an envelope as Mr. and Mrs. John Last Name). Etiquette be darned, it's just not happening on an invite I send out.

    Hehe.  :)

I hate pushy people who practically force you to do the money dance, and do it more than once...or make a comment if you only give/have a small bill. I don't ever carry cash....and I think it's kind of tacky. That's what showers and gifts are for. The last wedding i was in did this, and it was just terrible.. Soooo not gonna happen at my wedding

I like the chicken dance and hokey pokey. My wedding guests can suck it up.

I agree with the long gloves, I think it's dumb. I also have a thing against colored wedding dresses. If it's a formal wedding, then I think the dress should be white (or off white, or ivory). I'm mostly talking against those pink dresses you see on SYTTD. I have an issue with those for some reason. Also the see through wedding dresses- the ones where you can see your stomach through the sheer fabric. Save it for the bedroom, please.

I also have an issue with ceiling drapings. I get that if you have the money, then I guess go for it, but I just think it's a waste of money. No one is going to remember if you had a ceiling draping or not. I don't know, I just think it's too expensive for what you're getting. Some fabric on the ceilng for a few hours while you have a party. Seems obsessive. But, I'm not a fancy person.

I have never been to a wedding with a money dance. We don't do those in New York. Although a guest at BF's sister's bridal shower brought some sort of money jar, and it was passed around (for the bride and groom, of course). I didn't contribute to it. BF's grandmother was livid that the jar made an appearance.

    My pet peeves:

*inappropropriate music - I knew the bride when she used to rock n' roll; songs that are overtly sexual. Just doesn't seem right for a wedding

*weddings that have NO uniqueness and are like every other wedding. SNORE

*bad entertainment - why do people feel like they need to have entertainment at a wedding/reception - isn't the wedding the entertainment, plus dinner and dancng. I HATE "the little people." One couple had some rollerskate dj, who came out and performed on rollerskates!!!!!

I dislike headtables with the entire wedding party being put on display. I don't get it, I just don't like it. And I don't like the reasons people use to justify why people should have them (uniformity, photo ops, etc.). Same with matchy matcy bridesmaids.

I absolutely hate buck/stag and does. The fundraising ones. I know they're super popular where I am but I just can't stand them.

I told Andrew I would go in the bathroom and cry is he smashed cake in my face. I'll probably spend HOURS getting my hair and makeup done to look beautiful for him...and photos...

I would be devistated if he did it. It just seems so mean!

ETA: Besides- if Andrew wants to play dirty with cake...it should be naked in the bedroom. Ha.

I think there's a good chance that FI and I will be, if not full-on smashers, at least icing-smearers. Our relationship is silly that way. We pull immature pranks on each other on a near-daily basis; I see no reason for our wedding day to be different.
