S/O: Names...Love them, Hate them, Share them?

Re: S/O: Names...Love them, Hate them, Share them?

  • Do you like your name? I used to hate it because its such a common name.  Now I'm ok with it.  I actually like that its spelled differently than is usual (around here at least).

Did you ever want to be named something else at any point in your life? If you could rename yourself now- what would it be? Apparently when I was 4 I demanded that everyone call me Victoria.  Also when I used to love the Olsen twins I wanted to be called Mary-Kate.  I wouldn't change my name now.  I actually will only allow people to call me Kaitlyn.  Katie, Kate, etc. doesn't work.  I get very annoyed with people that call me either of those (once I've told them not to).

Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be?  Not really.  One of my best friends has very specific names that she's told me I'm not allowed to use, but its not something I would pick anyway.  I also really like the name Charlotte.  I haven't put a lot of thought into baby names though :P

Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names? Sometimes for fun but I really don't care what a name means.  BF's means "God is my judge" I think, and mine means "Pure" or something like that.  BF's mom actually picked names for all 3 of her boys that are from the bible, but she had no intention of doing that.  People just pointed it out to her once, she had no idea.

I do, though it's very commonly misspelled. I spell my name Cecilia, whereas most who have my name spell it Cecelia.

Did you ever want to be named something else at any point in your life?
I hated my name when I was little, because no one could spell it and I had never met any other Cecilias before. When I got older, I started to love it, because 9 times out of 10, if I hear anyone say my name around me, I know they're talking to/about me. It's nice. :)

I'm actually pretty satisfied with my name, though it is hard answering the phone at work, what with all the "ss" sounds in my name (which will be even WORSE one I get FI's last name, lol). "Thank you for calling Office Max... this is Cecilia."

Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them?
Not really, I've never really thought about it.

    Favorite baby names?
I've always been a fan of the name James, but I know a few girls I went to school with who have used it, so as far as my OWN children, I figure FI and I will probably end up naming them something that means something to the two of us.

Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names?
My first and last name together literally means "Blind Wagonmaker". It's kind of funny, and is a great conversation starter. I plan on staying away from infamous monikers like "Adolf" or "Jezebelle", but other than that I'm not going to make a big deal over name meanings.
  • When I was in elementary school my alto ego "twin" was named Stacy. (My friend in the after-school program I went to and I both decided to tell everyone we had identical twins in the same program, but that they were "shy" So, we'd go to the bathroom and come back as our alter ego. The best part is that when you're 7 years old, that's convincing enough).

I grew out of that FAST, but it's funny to me now because BF's ex-wife was named Stacey.

In middle school I went by Lucy, but that's because there were two Erin's on the news crew and those of us who shared names had to come up with a different name. So for all of 8th grade I was Lucy. One of my teachers couldn't pronounce my name so I convinced him to just call me Lucy. That was also the year I was really sick, so I got a lot of cards addressed to both names!

Now, I love my name. I would never change it!

For kid names, I have a gazillion ideas and BF also has a gazillion ideas. I have way more girl name ideas than boy names, I just want to avoid anything too popular and anything too unique. Nice middle ground names will work for me. Common enough to be able to find a pencil with your name on it, but not so common that there are 6 kids with the same name in a class.

  • Do you like your name?
I don't like it, but I don't dislike it - it's just a name, so I see no reason to change

If you could rename yourself now- what would it be?
Alyaki - a lot of my friends already call me "Aly" because it's my normal name on games and whatnot.

Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them?
Not really, I could care less if people like the same names.  I like Gavin, Alexander, and James for boy names, but BF likes Liam (which I hate).  Airlia Astra for a girl.

Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names?
    Nope.
