Hunger Games

So I was finally able to just sit down over the weekend and finish Hunger Games and now I am halfway through book 2 and Im going crazy that I cannot just sit at home and finish it. Im actually a little more upset with myself that I let it go this long before finishing the first one as it was so good and now I cant even put down #2 unless, well i've been reading it at night and my eyes get so sleepy by 10 that I actually just fall asleep with my Nook in my hands.

After I am done reading the trilogy, anyone have any other good ones that are hard to put down?

  • I don't know, but I loved that series. Finals be darned, I read it all. Don't regret it, either. Well, except the one day... that day was difficult...

  • I don't know about other series, but I recommend "The Night Circus" awesome book.  I read that thick book on my 12 hour flight home.  The Hunger Games I made sure ai had a block of time I could devote to reading it... ie the 20 hours of traveling to the vacation spot.

Oh good one! I saw the previews for the movie but also said I cannot see it until I read the book.

  • I love that series!

I'm finishing the last book in the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series right now.

I don't really have series suggestions at all, sorry. Individual books I do though.
  • My MIL brought me the 'Gregor the Overlander' books to read, they are also by Suzanne Collins, who wrote HG.  I just started it, it's a bit younger level than HG (MIL works in the grade school library, so she reads a lot of those books to discuss with the kids), but it's pretty entertaining so far.  I wanted an easier read during the holidays anyways so this definitely fits the bill, plus it's fun to read 'kids' books every once and a while. (it's like watching a Disney movie)

<div>Definitely read the books.  At least for me, I have to read the book before I see the movie otherwise I won't ever read the book.  Plus I like to picture the characters in my own way, once I see the movie I only picture them as they're portrayed in the film, if that makes sense.</div>

  • Ollie-hopefully he did. Im hooked.

Jem- I am also one that loves disney movies!

  • Girl with the Dragon Tatoo series is really good. Another series that is good, (teen fiction- but still good!) is The Clockwork Prince/Mortal Instruments books by Cassandra Clare.

And a book that is just an amazing story is Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. Definitely a must read!

Now I'm going to go read the Anne of Green Gables series for the millionth time during my boredom at work... if anyone likes to read classics online while bored at work- projectgutenberg!

  • I totally agree with you about Hunger Games! I just started the first book on Monday and I've only got the last 20 pages or so left...it's KILLING me that I can't finish it up right now at work.

I've got the second book at home, so i'll probably start that tonight. I don't think i'm going to be worth anything over my Christmas break! BF kept teasing me last night that I was neglecting him. I was up till almost midnight!

    addictive!!!
  • oh - and I totally recommend Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series too. It's hard to start, but once you get into them, you can't put them down!

Ha funny thing, last night I got home from job number two around 8:30, took a bath to relax and when I was done I asked him how much longer he was staying up. He got mad and was like why you cant be around me? Uh no I want to read so if you're staying up to watch tv ill go in the bed and read, but if you're going to bed Ill stay up in the livingroom and read, he went to bed! lol

I was hooked on Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Griffith but I think I am more hooked on Hunger Games so hopefully I enjoy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I might actually buy them on my Nook right now just so I don't forget!

  • I LOVED HG...I loved all three books and consumed them all in two days. What is it about the trilogy that is so addicting?

A Game of Thrones by George R. R Martin is supposed to be just as addicting. I haven't really gotten into it yet though.

  • Love HG!! I have not found another series to throw myself into yet, so I am not much help there.

A series I read before HG was The Sevenwaters trilogy by Juliet Marillier (which is actually 5 books now). It is very good if you like fantasy-type books.

I'm also currently reading, and almost finished with, The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley. It's a historical fiction piece set in Scotland, and is written as a story within a story. It's very good, but I can't vouch for how it ends because I'm not quite there yet!
  • I really need to go buy the hunger games! I can't believe I haven't read them yet. My favorite series of all time is the Outlander books. They are not quick reads, and the first one is kind of dry in the beginning...but once you get about halfway in the rest are AMAZING. My mom got me hooked on them and I got a few of my friends hooked on them as well.

I will second this recommendation. I LOVED The Winter Sea!

Nothing I've read recently is quite as thrilling as the Hunger Games series.

It's hard to recommend without knowing what ELSE you like, b/c HG has such broad appeal.

Oh I'm going to steal all these suggestions. I've been looking for a new fantasy series for ages.

I really like the Eragon series, it's teen fantasy but still a good storyline, and one of those series that gets darker as you go on.

  • For fantasy lovers --

I'm a huge fan of Jim Butcher's Dresden files series. They're more urban fantasy, but the series just gets better and better. Highly recommended.

For epic fantasy lovers who enjoy Martin or Jordan, Ericson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series is TRULY epic.

OMFG.  I looove the Dresden Files.  I read them while living in Chicago.  I actually got to the end of the first one during a thunder storm, which was totally terrifying. haha
  • I just finished the second book in the Hunger Games series and I'm soooo hooked! Can't wait to read the third one!!!

I also really enjoyed The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series.... the new movie was pretty good.... although I still prefer the original.

Next book series waiting for me (after I finish Mockingjay) is The Mortal Instruments! :)
  • OMG...I've been wanting a copy of the HG.  Now I'm stomping my foot that I don't own one yet.
