Did you know...

that apples, and not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning?

DANGIT!! I just bought an espresso machine yesterday too! I would try but I fear for my cubicle mates. Let me know how it goes ladies, I'll be (hopefully) enjoying my first self-made caramel macchito.

I've tried the no coffee thing in the morning before...I was a volunteer camp counselor for a week a few years ago and they weren't sure if they were going to have coffee available for the counselors in the mornings or not, so the 1st day there was none available...I had to hit the nurse's station within an hour with a splitting headache and so did several other counselors.  The next day the coffee was out (we just had to have a lid on it so the kids couldn't "see" our coffee)...no coffee = bad withdrawal headache...I'll have an apple later in the day.

I think I am going to try this. I want to try to ween myself off of coffee, I love it but I hate that I depend on it.

My friend Katie just told me this yesterday, and I tried it...gotta say, it didn't work for me. Maybe it's a psychosomatic thing though. Something about gearing up the cofeemaker in the morning, that smell, and holding that steaming hot mug....I am an addict!

AND an apple a day keeps the doctor away...

I don't drink coffee so just to just on the bandwagon I will substitute an apple for my morning tea (that's hot tea for my beautiful non-canadians)... it still has caffeine but not as much as coffee

It worked. I should have made the coffee last night and put it in the fridge because it just melted some of the ice and watered it down. It still taste pretty good but I will try again tomorrow.

...oh, you were asking about the apple thing? Nevermind.

I don't drink coffee.  I usually have a whole wheat english muffin with natural peanut butter for breakfast and enjoy it with a mountain dew! :)

I can see how the act of eating a whole apple would wake you up... lots of biting and chewing plus they are cool, juicy and quite refreshing.  I usually have them as snacks but I might have to see about changing things up and having half a english muffin with my apple and no mountain dew for breakfast.  Not tomorrow though... I need mountain dew until atleast Monday!

    LIES!

Mountain dew is one of my only vices... I did without it for over a year while pregnant and breastfeeding but as soon as I had it again I was hooked!  My father doesn't drink coffee and he has a mountain dew every morning as well so I guess I got it honestly! :)

I love Mountain Dew AND coffee.  But my body is really easily affected by caffeine - I end up with shakes (even my eyeballs shake, which is creepy and uncomfortable) and nausea and headaches and dizziness if I have caffeine.

So it's either decaf coffee or decaffeinated soda.  Luckily, I hate Coke/Pepsi anyway so it's not so hard.

But I do love tea!  And yes, HOT tea!  Either English Breakfast or Jasmine Green tea.  Once in awhile I'll break out my collection from China - amazing green tea balls that open like a flower.  Mmmmm!

I'm an equal opportunity caffeine consumer. Soda, coffee, and tea, too. I hate green tea, but love black, red, white, herbal, etc. I don't usually buy fancy stuff, though. Bigelow Constant Comment is my go-to tea, but I do also love Darjeeling and Earl Grey, and nothing beats Celestial Seasonings Honey Chamomile when I'm sick!

Desert, I used to hate green tea until I realized almost everyone makes it wrong.  You don't use boiling water, you use hot water.  Then the leaves don't get burnt and you don't end up with that weird sour/bitter aftertaste.  Then it just tastes like heaven!  Try Jasmine Green tea sometime with hot water.  Delightful!

Cate, I've tried it repeatedly, including when I spent some time in Japan. I'm pretty sure they know how to make it there.  :) But I'll keep your tip in mind if I ever decide to try again!

Oh, if you've had it in Japan you've probably had it correctly.  I've had a ton of friends who say they hate it, but they just hate the bitter taste of burnt tea.  *shrug*

In other news, I am totally jealous that you've been to Japan.
