Send off from the church: What besides bubbles/rice/birdseed/balloons?

OK, so we can't/won't do rice/birdseed/balloons/confetti at the bride and groom's send-off from the church. BESIDES BUBBLES, what are some other ideas/options? (Bride is not into the bubbles for several reasons, among them being they are messy if spilled and create a slipping hazard and pretty much everyone she knows has had them already.)

SUGGESTIONS?

I've seen sparklers, but those are best when it's dark out. I've also seen guests hold little tiny pennants that say things on them like "congrats" or "best wishes" and other congratulatory phrases. When the B&G walk down the middle, the guests wave the pennants.

Throwing rose petals is another option, but I'm assuming a no go if you don't want something that has to be cleaned up; plus some venues may not allow that.

ETA: Pic of the pennant thing I was talking about but with different phrases on them.

  • The church won't allow rose petals ... messy, I suppose, and might stain the sidewalk or rugs or whatever. You can use fake ones inside; I suppose we could use fake ones outside but then someone would have to sweep them up.

Those pennants are cute. Plus they'd be easy to make and inexpensive.

  • Stage, where do we find those non-messy poppers? Ribbon wands sound cute, too. I love the idea of sparklers when they leave the reception (bride has always LOVED fireworks!) but not sure by that time we should let the revelers near flame! ; ) LOL

  • We're doing ribbon wands since there's no cleanup and they look cool in the photos, plus they're super easy to make!

  • We're getting married in the fall and I've bought preserved natural leaves (from save-on-crafts.com) and we're throwing them.  Since they're natural- we don't have to worry about picking them up.  :)  We also thought about ribbons :)
  • Been Googling away and did find some ... thanks! Liking the ribbon wand and/or pennants too.

Like man brides, my DD is totally swamped with work/school right now, so I'm trying to gather options for her ... Pretty sure something will strike her fancy!

    Thanks ladies!

** I don't believe that old cliche that good things come to those who wait. I think good things come to those who want something so bad they can't sit still **
  • I've seen people throw flowers like lavender, etc.
  • Thanks, ladies!

  • She decided this afternoon to just bag it! She was so funny about it ... she was like,'Can't people just clap and wish us well and stuff as we leave? That'd be good enough.'

I think she REALLY had her heart set on balloons but once she realized the environmental consequences as well as the cost, she was kind of over the whole grand exit thing. She considered bubbles but decided it was not worth the trouble.

Works for me! One more thing to check off 'The List!'!!! Thanks for your help anyway!!!

What about ringing bells? Give everyone little tiny bells and have them ring them as a send off. It won't make a mess, just be loud, which an be fun.
