My co-worker is such a DOUCHE!!! (VENT!!!!!)

My co-worker is a major ___________ (insert insult here). I am the youngest person in my department, I am also department chair and I think this is ONE of the things that he has a problem with. He is a major snake. He refuses to complete assignments that he has been obligated to do and then goes behind my back and tells our boss that I never told him about it. Thank GOD our boss is hip to his antics or else, I would be in hot water on a daily basis. I hate the sound of this guy's voice. I hate his creepy bug-eyes! I hate the fact that he uses our staff meetings as his personal soap-box/gripe sessions. I hate that he complains, complains, and complains when he is a part of the problem!!
Besides being an arrogant JERK, he is one of the laziest people I have ever met. He seems to think that just because he is retiring in 3 years (he reminds everyone of this on a weekly basis), he doesn't have to do the job that he is being paid to do. Walk by his classroom at any time of day and there he is sitting in the same spot, reading his newspaper or on his computer while his students are doing bookwork. He never assigns homework and when he DOES actually find the time to actually do what he is being paid to do, he spends it discussing things like video production and Jackie Robinson (not his subject area mind you) this  would not bother me as much if his students' test scores were going up, they are actually doing the opposite. This pisses me off even more because it is the students that suffer!!  He is such a SCUZZBAG!!!
I hate to be such a Negative Nancy, but I just had to get this out before I exploded.

This may sound stupid, but if he isn't doing his job and his students scores are dropping and your the chair of the dept, there is nothing you can do about it? I understand that things are more complicated with unions and seniority, but still.

How I WISH there was more that I could do, but sadly, there isn't. In the county where I work, it is very difficult to let a teacher go.

If it makes you feel any better, this guy who is a complete asshat just got promoted over my FI (we work for the same company, different stores). This guy has been with the company a year, FI over 5. Jerkoff is so rude, cocky, and full of himself. I told FI apparently that's what he needs to be to get ahead. =/

Even if it's hard to fire a teacher (which, ironically, as a teacher, I hate this) you are still the department chair. I call BS on the fact that there is nothing you can do.  Talk to your principal. Gather evidence. if you have enough evidence that he is a bad teacher, you can write him up at a minimum.

Done AND Done. IDK what state or district you are in, but here the Dept. Chair doesn't do teacher write ups. How I wish I could, this guy would be out on his a** and replaced with someone that actually DOES care by the end of the week.

Is he tenure or something? Obviously he is blatantly going against everything a teacher is supposed to do... TEACHING! DUH! If that in itself doesn't get him at least on probation then I think the issue lies in your administration, not him. I know PLENTY of teachers fresh out of school that would love to work but can't because lack of positions. He can easily be replaced. Hell I feel like I could do a better job than that asshat and I don't teach.

Here's a humerous rant about a vendor that I have to deal with:
I was dealing with the company that launders our uniforms on Monday, and we've been dealing with a mess that they started by spelling my new empoyee's name wrong on all his shirts.  I pointed out to our driver/laundry guy that they still haven't even changed his name to the correct spelling in their computer system, which means that they won't fix the actual uniforms, since the name on the uniforms match the name in the computer.  He told me to back off and get off his case about this (it's been ongoing for a month), and that he's stressed out because he's getting married in a month, and I should respect the fact that he just doesn't have time to fix this until after his wedding.
I just shook my head.   Apparently he's the only person getting married, which is an automatic excuse to be a douche?

I think it's a great thing that department chairs can't write up other teachers. You're not his boss, you're his co worker.

If I were you, I'd just let your principal know what is going on. Of he/she has a problem with it, then they can and will do something about it.

It sounds to me like the guy thinks he's riding smooth into retirement, perhaps because of tenure.  Can your boss ask to see his lesson plans or anything like that and call him on it if it doesn't match up with state requirements?

The title to this status made my day! Do we work at the same place?!!

I use to have this thought run through my head daily until my department finally placed me  to work with another associate. Basically he has issues with women who have an opinion. So this made me smile. It will eventually get better. Don't let him get to you he's completely not worth the headache!

Morning Ladies,

With your encouragement, I had a nice long talk with my principal yesterday since talking with Mr. Douche like an adult proved to be pointless. Turns out he was already planning on making a surprise visit to his classroom this week. It seems that I am not the only one that has taken issue with him. A slew of parents have been complaining about the lack of homework and assignments not being put into the gradebook (parents can view their kids' grades online here).

Don't get me wrong, I am not wishing bad on anyone, I just want this guy to get a serious reality check. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement.
