when do you sign the license?

I've only been to one wedding where I actually saw the bride and groom sign the license. When do other people do it? Between the ceremony and reception?

We signed our application for the license, not the license itself.  Our officiant signed the license before the ceremony began -- in the hotel suite.  Hers was the only signature required.
