Second thoughts about my wedding dress.. help!!

OK I just posted a pic of my dress last night or something.. it's Sidney from Sottero & Midgley. But now I'm having second thoughts. I still love the dress, but I'm just wondering if I should have gone with something more form fitting. I was between two dresses before ordering, and the one I didn't order was a fit & flare. I guess my question is.. can you cancel a dress order? Usually is there a penalty (I was guessing I'd lose my deposit)?? And more importantly.. what would you do??? Is ordering a new dress worth losing the money? Should I go with my gut and not change it??

I'm so confused..

Re: Second thoughts about my wedding dress.. help!!

  • Usually you can't cancel, but it's worth trying, I guess.

    I personally, would:
    1- take a deep breath
2- STOP looking at other dresses and under no circumstances try any on
3- look at pictures of myself in the dress I had bought, and look at all the things that are wonderful about it, and
4- stick with the original dress.

    But that's just me.
  • Ditto PP.  You chose your dress and were SO excited about it.   Stick with that gut! :)
  • I agree with PPs as well. That being said as for canceling a dress I know my bridal salon told me that I could cancel as long as the dress I ordered hadnt been cut yet. So if you absolutly truly want to go that route I would call the salon and ask them if your dress has been ordered or cut yet. There is a chance that you will loose your deposit and this IMO would totally suck!!! At the end of the day you picked the dress you did over the other dress and even more importantly were so convinced that you put a deposit down on it. To me this says you have your dress. And as mdphd mentioned DONT under any circumstances continue to dress look, shop, or try on. Good luck and keep us posted.

  • Stay with the original, you chose it over the other for a reason, and usually when women second guess themselves they always end up with the first one anyway!! Take a deep breath and stop looking! Everything will be fine!
  • Thanks ladies. I think I just got anxious and then started to panic.. but I'm trying to keep in mind the way I felt when I put the original dress on and didn't want to ever take it off! I think I'll stick with my first instinct... just needed some reassurance.
  • Glad to hear just breathe and remember why you love the dress you bought!

  • So glad you posted this!  I am doing the same thing.  In fact, I had purchased a dress that my mom picked out (she is very ill, so I thought, if she couldn't be at the wedding, it would be special to be wearing the gown she chose).  But I didn't feel beautiful in it.  I ended up canceling the dress (with great trouble I might add).  Then I went out and bought a different dress...it has all of the things I looked for, corset bodice, rouching, light beading...perfect...except for the skirt.  It's a-line, and like you, I still want more of a fit and flare, form fitting style.

I've been reading about how you can get your dress altered from a-line to mermaid/trumpet...so I'm going to ask my seamstress if she can do that.  So if you're still having doubts, maybe try that.
