Trying to get it so my fiancee and I can get married in the church I grew up in....sooo many things

It's always been my dream since I was a little girl to grow up and get married in the church I grew up in... recently I requested some information about what all it would take to get married there and it seems to be sooo much that needs to be done...meanwhile I'm all frazzled and hoping this could still work out. I've never seen any church be so strict about simply getting married before....Am I totally doing the wrong thing by wanting to have our wedding ceremony there? Should I just give up and go somewhere with less requirements??

What are the requirements? You've gotta give us something here.
  • All churches had requirements. If it's as important to you as you say it is then you have to jump through whatever hoops they want you too. I highly doubt it's anything that's out of the ordinary.  The problem is most people just think they can just call the church and book a date without having to do anything else so when they learn of the requirements they think it's a hassle.

  • Yeah, most churches have some requirements. We're getting married in a UCC church (my Fi's denomination) and even as liberal they are with their ceremonies we've had to do a couple months of counseling with the pastor (which has actually been wonderful. We weren't having any problems that would need counseling, but it's given us a lot of good couple time to think about us and all). I know other churches also have rules about what music you can use/readings etc. Mormon temple weddings require the couple to be judge by a board and even then only Mormons can attend. If it really matters to you, do what you need to do to do it. If it's not worth it, find somewhere else. Churches aren't just general venues to use, it's how it works.

  • It would help us if you told us some of the requirements of your church. Many churches want you to be a parisioner in order to marry there. In Catholic services, you cannot use secular music.  Most churches will want you to do some sort counseling as well.
  • Well, that's pretty much as vague as you could possibly be, OP.
