Re: Looking for feedback.

  • From actual wedding planners:http://fabu-luxe.com/blog/2008/01/08/why-i-wont-hire-you/http://planningforever.com/blog/2007/09/24/being-a-wedding-planner-part-one/ (Also look for links for Parts 2-4)I stumbled upon these links recently and found them to be very helpful in providing a realistic view of entering the industry.
  • Vendors and vendor want to bes are not allowed on teh knot so you can not discuss your vendor buisness here. That said focus on doing 1 wedding first and then maybe you will realize why so many people think party planning is great fun when in reality it is a ton of work for someone elses vision. Complete this one task before going any further.
  • Try reading Wedding Chic: The Savvy bride's guide to getting more while spending less, by Nina Willdorf, you can pick a second hand copy up for a few dollars and it's got lots of great tips on all elements of wedding planning & keeping to budget.  Google books has exerts of some wedding planning books.Once you've got the planning framework worked out then search bridal blogs, google images & the knot for inspiration.Keep all the inspiration filed either in a folder or electronically (don't forget to keep a back up copy), It will help to split everything into specific areas i.e. Flowers, Music, Venues, Favors, Stationery, Decoration, Dress designers etc, keep details of vendors and images of ideas you like within the relevant section, it will make it easier in the long run to keep track of where you saw thingsSet up a wedding planner blog and get some free business cards printed up (vistaprint) you may be able to work out some discounts in exchange for listing on your blog/testimonials/future work etc.
  • What a great opportunity to help you get started.  My favorite book was Bridal Bargains--I think it had useful info for brides and planners on any budget.  Also I would recommend hanging out on the knot some, there are tons of ideas here.  The DIY board is a great place to start.GL.
