Name Change Kit?!?!

Has anyone used, or heard of anyone using an online name change kit?  I have found several online, and they are really talking them up, that they make changing your name very easy!  From what I hear, changing your name is a nightmare, and I was thinking that the name change kit might make things easier, but who knows!

Don't do it - it's a total waste of money because you still have to go to the ss office and dps and wait in line to change your name on those things.Changing your name really isn't that difficult - I got it done all in 1 day without a kit

also your wedding is a long time away and you won't be able to change anything until after you get your marriage license back after the wedding

waste of money for sure.   First step go to your SS office must be done first.  After that everything will begin to fall into place

Waste of money. It might be more time consuming to do everything "manually," per se, but it ends up being much cheaper to do it yourself. The only nightmare is the SS office. I seriously got lucky that they split people up of who was doing name changes/lost cards. Otherwise, I would've waited there for a couple of hours. Everywhere else is easy. Most were phone calls, like my credit card, or just showing my certificate and SS card and fill out a few lines on a form.

Before you go to the SS office you have to have to get a paper from the court house to change your name. When you go to get your marriage license they will tell you about it. We live in Morrow County. Once we sign everything and it gets sent in to them. They record the information and there is a specific document the court house will give you to take to the SS office. She said its normally available 2-3 days after they receive the document in the mail. She said we could call and they would let us know if it was ready to be picked up. That’s all I know so far. I think once you have the SS card and marriage license you can go to the BMV? And once your driver’s license has been changed you can change your name with the banks and my job wants a copy of the marriage license to change my name at work. I will have to look into what I need to send along with my passport to get that changed. Remember if you are traveling right after your wedding. Say the next day or sometime with in the month you will travel using your maiden name. It can take up to 10 weeks to get your passport back with your new name. If you do not have a passport and need one for the HM, you apply for it in you maiden name, travel and then after you get back file to have your name changed. GL

Sorry I thought I posted that on my local board. All that info is for Ohio Knotties! The passport info is the same everywhere not sure about the rest though.

bingham: that's not the case for all counties. Mine just required either the original, or a certified copy of the marriage certificate for the SS office.

Oh, and for the passport, you need to fill out a form and send in a copy of your marriage certificate, with your new name. If you do it within 60 days, you don't need new photos, unless it's been over a year since it's issue date. You send our book, or card, and they will issue you a new one.
