Site has a stinky smell....

Hi ladies, So our venue is so beautiful! I LOVE it! It's an outdoor venue that is set up specifically for weddings. On the property is this really old house. The owners live there. It's actually a Manor. Well, there is this rug that smells like pet pee.... I know it's an outside wedding. But people will be able to go inside... hang out... and we can use the space for pictures. Everything in the house is nostalgic so pictures, I'm sure, will be really cool. But I don't want everyone in there smelling the pee.... I don't know how to tell the owners of this smell... They are probably use to it. And by looking at the house and the property you would NEVER guess that a smell like this would be there. It's so pretty!! Anyways, I need suggestions. Thanks!

  • "Youre rug is very lovely, I wouldnt want anyone to spill anything on it.  I think it would be better if it were placed somewhere else for the day."

  • Good idea... but I think she will probably come back with "Well no one should be drinking in here anyways." She's older. I was THINKING about saying something like... "Would it be ok if we lit some candles for ambiance" What do you think? I think she'll still say no... cause candles could = fire...???
  • I would be more direct with her. She's not your family friend, but a business owner that you are paying a lot of money. I would say "We really love so much about the grounds, and everything is great, but we'd really like to move the rug from the living room during our event." If she asks why, I would point out that it is dirty and smells like urine. You don't have to be rude, but you also don't have to lie to spare her feelings. How many people do you think visited the venue and after smelling the rug decided that the place was dirty and didn't use it?
  • Yeah I would def ask about it and let her know that you would rather not have the rug there has it does smell unpleasant. If she has an issure with it I would just not have my Wedding there.
  • I was more leaning towards asking her to have it cleaned. Not remove it.
  • Most certaintly let her know that the rug smells unpleasant and ask her if they would be able to have that cleaned and freshed for your day. Just be straight out, after all you are paying for this Venue.
  • I agree...you're paying for the venue, so tell her straight out. You don't have to be rude, but just be honest. I know it probably feels a little weird since the owners live there, but still, they're renting it out as a venue.I'm VERY sensitive to odors, especially animal odors. They give me terrible headaches and, if really strong, make me nauseous.  It would totally be uncomfortable for me to attend a wedding that smelled that bad.
