how far in advance for engagement photos?

I was in a bad motorcycle accident Aug 1st and I am just starting to walk. I will not be up and really walking well until mid December. So is it ok to schedule engagement photos for March? that would be 6 months before the wedding and also hopefully let the weather warm up here in NE Ohio. TIA!

  • You can do e-pics whenever you want.  They aren't required. If you are planning to use them for something, you need to talk to the photographer and find out how quickly you can get the prints.
  • Thank you... I do want to use them to send out save the dates etc... and I just love any excuse to get the two of us together to do pics!

  • It doesn't matter when you do them. :) Just do them before you get married if you do them at all. I'm sorry about your accident and it's great that you are on the mend!

  • I've heard of people doing engagement pics up to the day before the wedding.  It's entirely dependent on what you want to use them for and what will fit your schedules.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Sorry to hear about your accident. Like pp said you can really do them anytime. We did ours 4 months before our wedding.
  • Oh my goodness, I hope you're recovering quickly from the accident!! This topic is right up my alley! I was just dealing with the same situation...long story short, the original photographer we were about to sign with was a total joke. We wasted two months talking to him and trying to get him to get the contract right (he kept saying that some stuff was going to be included but it wasn't in the contract, so he kept recorrecting it, only messing it up more, etc. etc. etc.) I finally told him, "we don't want you, we're not signing with you" and we found a new photographer who is pretty awesome. But it's already Novemeber, and we just booked the new photographer about a week ago...now the weather is cold and bleaky. We don't want to use our engagement photos over ugly weather, where the trees are bald and I'm constantly chattering my teeth, I'm always cold. So we're taking out engagement photos in March, two months before our wedding. We're going to use those photos for our living room display, reception hall display, etc. etc. We are going with a friend who is now experimenting with photography, he has taken amazing pictures. He wants to go into a photography business, and we offered him to take our pictures for "save the date" and he's more than happy to take pictures for us for free, because this is a start of his new business.
  • I'm getting married 12/11/10 and we're thinking of having our engagement pictures done this winter sometime. I've got some really cute ideas for snow being on the ground and everything so hopefully when they get done they turn out great.
