ring to BIG

I just got my ring about a month ago. I got it fitted and it was perfect but now it doesn't fit anymore, but I am afraid if i get sized again it wont fit in the summer. A ring guard I was told will scratch it.

Re: ring to BIG

  • Depending on where you live, it could just be the weather. Its been super cold here + I've been losing weight so my ring has also gotten too large, but Im waiting a little longer before I size it. You could always do a 1/4 size adjustment. Example instead of a 6.5 go to a 6.25. I dont know about the ring guard, but depending on what metal, the ring could scratch period.

  • My ring has been doing the same thing and its been driving me crazy!  I know for mine its the set in of the cold weather, but I'm considering going down in size just so it won't roll as much.
  • Get a flexible plastic ring guard, not the metal ones they sometimes put on at the jewelery store.

  • My fingers fluctuate a bit with the weather, when its cold they shrink.  Maybe ask about a plastic ring guard so it wont scratch up the band.

  • Ditto the plastic ring guard.... they are cheap and do the job and they will in no way scratch your ring.

  • If you bought a lifetime warranty you should be able to get it re-sized as much as you want for free! If not, I would definately get it a little smaller, even if it is just 1/4 to 1/2 size smaller. It definately helps! My ring was originally a 4 and it was too big and it drove me nuts! So, I had them resize it to a 3.5 and then it was too tight.. it was very stressful! Then, I had them resize it again (I know, I am difficult apparently) to a 3.75 and it fit PERFECT! Even 1/4 size makes a big difference to me.
  • Or you could ask your jeweler to put in the little balls that help rings stop spinning. I sized my ring down to a 4.5 in May. It was still a little loose, but the 4.25 was a little tight and I was worried about the summer weather. In July, I had brought it back to our jeweler and had little metal balls put in. You can't see them or feel them (UNLESS you accidentally fall and slam your palms against something--THEN the little balls stab you as I learned when I tripped over the cat the other day).  They add just enough to keep the ring from sliding even when my hands are cold but allow you enough space for your hands to swell when it is hot.
  • Where do you get these plastic ring guards? Can you put it in yourself or does the jewelry do it? I think that would be a great solution for me.
  • I have a rose gold ring with a ring guard and had no problems with scratching.  Unfortnately the ring is going to have general wear and tear on it but i look at it as scratches are better than losing the ring becaue it is too big.  The plastic ones sound like a great alternative though.  Good luck
  • I disagree with other posters- a plastic ring guard totally mangled my platinum ring.  I guess platinum is notoriously soft.  Have shots place on the inside instead.  They are a bit uncomfortable at first, but you will get used to them...
